@Al: It's stupidly shocking how much people don't know about being pregnant! I had the whole "If I knew all this I would have stitched myself up" type of realization. But then when you have the kids you discover that it's all worth it.

Yeah, parents ARE to teach us such things like sex and how not to get pregnant (I mean girls, of course xp ). But my mom have never been talking with me about sex and all this stuff. Only last days, when I asked her, if I can go with my bf to the sea for spring holidays, she told me, that I can, but she added:
"You know, I trust you, don't you ? And I hope you know what your doing with your life, and that for some things is too early"
Of course she meand sex. And that's all what I've had heard from her 'bout sex ever.

Well, why not? Do they just assume you'll pick up one of their medical texts? I guess it's just odd to me since my parents talked to me about everything.

...they teach you about it in school anyway...'

that's how I learned.

Being Filipino, anything serious like that is taboo, and not talked about.

My parents never said anything to me about it. They believed I was intelligent enough to make those decisions for myself, and I think they were right.
However, I'm two months pregnant. It was accidental, and I do NOT think my parents were to blame, just to be clear. But it was really hard for me to tell them about it because I didn't know what they would think. They'd never talked to me about it.
It is a parent's job to teach a child whatever that child needs to know to succeed in life. So many parents aren't doing this anymore, and their children more often than not grow up getting into trouble.
The most intelligent child I've ever met 'belonged' to a couple that didn't believe in ear muffs. Whatever they asked, was answered appropriately. They didn't lie to him or keep secrets from him. They may have explained it only so far as a ten year old needs to know at the time, but still. And as hard as it would be to raise a child like this, I do believe that it's the best way to do so. Treat your child like the human being it is, and they will grow to respect you and themselves more for it.

I wish I'd had a mom like Andrea's. She tells me that her mom actually sat down on the floor with her, did the splits, and gave her the full biology lesson using herself as an example.

good lord...
I can't even respond to that.
I will not be THAT generous with my child...

her mom must've been pretty flexible...

But I'll let Ashley take care of explaining the girl stuff to our daughter.

I know one woman whose introduction to sex was her father setting her on the couch, putting on a porno, and leaving the room.

I'd probably talk about it in separate, short, casual convos so they don't get uncomfortable. I think they'd be more likely to come to me with questions if we did it that way.. starting with the most important stuff when they hit the right ages or something comes up.
