The first up, was the exotic looking male. As Gin had expected, Jace wasn’t a mammal, he was a snake. Smiling a bit, Gin got a very intriguing look in his eye. “A snake? That’s a very rare breed…I’m curious to find out more about your heritage, Jace.” Before more could be said, Jace’s seat mate jumped up to introduce herself.
“A binturong? I’ve never heard of that species before.” Gin said with a curious and surprised look. It seemed that the new students with year were both very exotic. “I look forward to seeing your shifted form, Thanya.”
Gin turned toward Rin so she could introduce herself, but at that moment, Jesse came running into the class in her fennec fox form. He watched as she took her seat and shifted back to her human form only to mutter a soft ‘sorry’. Gin gave her a small nod of greeting.
“Rin, why don’t you go ne-“ He hadn’t finished his sentence when the door opened again, and Gianna came into the class. Being her sweet self, Gia walked in and greeted everyone, a large tray of cookies in her hands.
Speechless, Gin watched her come closer and before he knew it, Gia was hugging him in front of the whole class. Blushing deeply, a bit embarrassed by the greeting, he gave her a quick hug back – one that was much shorter than his normal ones.
While Gia introduced herself to everyone, Gin regained a bit of his composure. Snagging one of the cookies, he munches on it with a hum and a nod of approval. “Today is going to be pretty casual, so a snack break doesn’t seem too out of the ordinary.” Gin said with a shrug.
A moment later, he realized something. Gaze narrowing a little, he smirked at Gia. “G…didn’t you send Ven out for Carrot Cake…for you?” Taking another bite of his cookie, he gave Gia a knowing look. ”You sent him on a wild goose chase didn’t you…?” Leave it to Gia to mess around with Ven on the first day of class.

Gin had smiled shortly after Jace's introduction with a strange look in his eyes, almost intriguing in character. He wondered what he seemed to have going through his mind at the information given to him, worrying that perhaps he knew of Jace's family. He was also worried what his motives would be at this point if that were the case. So far however not many people, if any, had recognized who he was so there was a chance that it was for another reason. Which begged the question of what the other question could have been. His next words, calling him a rare breed for being a snake and then asking for his heritage did not clear that up for him. For starters, the last thing he wanted had happened. Gin had taken an interest in Jace's shifting, even if it were just the animal specifically it was something he was hoping to avoid. However, when asked about his heritage it only compounded on the issue in his mind. More so than not wanting to shift he did not want anyone to know who he was related to. His hope, knowing not shifting in such a class was an impossible dream, was that no one would connect him to the Willem family. Or, in the least, no one had both pieces of information together. While he kept a polite smile and calm air he was mentally panicking with these thoughts and only hoped some form of intervention happened to save him.
The intervention took the unlikely form, or perhaps very likely now that he thought about it, form of Miss Kamsing. He had seemed as if he wanted to say more, but in Miss Kamsings eagerness he was not given the chance. Jace internally calmed a little, hoping he could repay her for something she likely unknowingly did. He focused his mind on her words, so that he would not have a relapse of panic, and learned a bit more of his companion. While he knew she was in a tribe, he had not expected to hear she lived in the trees. 'Though such a thing would explain why she is not associated with a noble.' He thought to himself, as most nobles had villages that made crops for import, so they were presumably closer to the ground. At least he believed as he never probed that deeply about the people that lived there. What was more interesting was that she seemed to be an animal he had not heard of, as was her tribe, called a Binturong. Claiming it was a cross between a bear, cat and monkey. 'Such a strange combination to be created. I wonder what that truly looks like, and how many others change into things as strange as that...' He silently thought to himself. The monkey part may also explain why her people resided in trees. As she finished and resumed her seat, she would throw a reassuring smile his way. Jace would smile appreciatively to her in return, genuinely feeling such though he doubted she would know the full extent as to why. Though it also made him wonder if she perhaps knew more than he thought, that perhaps his calm facade had ever broken, though he hoped it hadn't.
It was then that his attention was taken by the arrival of yet another, signaled by the sound of a clunk towards the entrance of the class. As his eyes would turn to find the source, he was surprised to find not a person but a...fluffy creature? He was unsure quite what this creature was though it did notice the attention suddenly placed upon it as it would go to an empty desks seat. Wondering why a wild animal had somehow penetrated the entire academy and made it to this class, he was surprised to see if shift into a female. "It should have been expected but...why travel in animal form...and how did she manage to open the door?" He pondered in his mind, truly wondering as to her reasoning for doing so. Why anyone would travel in animal form was beyond him currently due to his own disdain for it, and with her size along with lack of hands he wondered what kind of feat was taken to perform an act such as opening the door. But, what plagued most in the back of the mind was how seamlessly she seemed to shift. While he had yet to be able to do so fully it appeared to go with ease for her. Casting a quick glance around, he suddenly wondered if he was the only one who had not fully shifted yet. He heard the girl say sorry, obviously not having desired to create such a scene with her arrival, before Gin merely nodded. He was glad she had not heard of him at least, so that meant one less person who would know his name in the least.
As Gin was about to have Rin go next, another person seemed to enter after a brief knock and jump on the shattered remains of peace this class once had. 'How many others shall join us so suddenly...' Jace would worry to himself. She gave a friendly greeting to everyone, commenting on how nice they appeared to be. Jace would return the greeting with a polite smile and small incline of his head as the woman quickly went over to squeeze Gin while simultaneously rubbing cheeks with him. Jace briefly pondered at what level of familiarity the two must have with one another, as Gin only briefly returned the hug and sported a blush. He was soon answered as the woman mentioned that she was his mother and wife to Ven the actual shifter professor. 'That would explain the display of affection...but do most people do such things?' Jace thought to himself, his own family experience having displays of affection such as that reserved for privacy and much less version when in public. However, as she mentioned she was the advanced combat professor Jaces eyes would widen slightly in surprise as it seemed the whole family was involved with teaching for this school. He also wondered who else would be making an appearance at this point if they had such a teacher in here. She did however promise to bring gifts for her intrusion, so at the least there was a small reassurance to him that her visits would remain friendly in nature. Jace forced his breathing to be deep and calm, wondering how things could've become so erratic and chaotic in so short a time. He would then notice her offering of cookies, and while he had no doubt they would be tasty, he did not desire to rise from his seat in the midst of all this. It was an unnecessary way to draw attention to himself, not to mention it was not the polite thing to do in the midst of class...no matter how derailed the class was.
However, as soon as that thought came to his mind he noted Gin begin to snack on a cookie himself, proclaiming the class would be casual and a snack break would fit in. Jace internally hoped this meant he would not be called on to demonstrate his shifting ability. He could do parts, that was in the realm of possibility of him, but he was unsure about a full shift. As Gin seemed to go in conversation about his mother sending Ven on a wild goose chase, which Jace had no idea why she would do such a thing on the very first day of class so he would purposely miss it, he was debating an action. Since Gin himself had conceded to a snack break, and all parties seemed distracted to a degree, he could perhaps take this opportunity to grab a cookie to enjoy till the class session would resume. He gaze a brief glance to Miss Kamsing, knowing she may be eager enough to run over and get one herself while wondering how much attention that would draw to their area, before calmly standing up himself. With a quick glance to make sure he wouldn't be stopped, he would make his way to the cookies, carefully grabbing a pair of them, before returning to his seat. Upon his return and seating, he would look to Miss Kamsing and speak as he extended his hand out with one cookie towards her. "Seeing as I was going to get one regardless, I thought it best I bring one for you in case you so desired it." He would say as his reasoning, his simple offering of a cookie there for her to take if she desired. Regardless of whether or not she accepted, he would begin to daintily begin to eat the cookie, careful that no crumbs would fall on him and that the bites were small as well as quiet as possible. Enjoying the taste of the cookie even though he scarcely had eaten any due to the manner by which he was eating, he would speak in a polite tone to Miss Falkov. "I thank you for bringing these sweets, they are delectable." He would calmly say. Though he did not desire to draw attention to himself, it would be impolite to take it in silence with no comment whatsoever, and his training for social situation almost forced him to speak. He was being sincere however, and hoped she would merely take it in stride so he could fade back into the background.

While Rin's ears were perfectly focused on the words of the other Shifters as they introduced themselves, her eyes refused to cooperate. That was until the door clicked open... Catherine looked behind herself towards the door to see a little fox hanging from the handle. A fox..? I would've thought somebody with that kinda form would have beat most of us here... The girl rolled her eyes before resting again and focusing on the sounds. She was almost ready to act oblivious to her brother putting her on the spot up until a familiar voice entered, followed by the more-than-welcome smell of... Food?
When she opened her eyes again Rin would see Gia walking up to her brother, cookies in hand. That was where her attention was set... The girl watched groggily when the container was set on the desk up front. After staring for a moment Rin let herself fall down to the floor as out of the blue she would shift into the bright and fluffy husky form. Like that she crouched while making her way around the front desk. Rin would sit just behind the desk for a moment before raising her head up to the cookie, which she'd sniff curiously, trying to plan a way to get at them without having to transform back. Until she could think of a solution she'd just have her head rested in the table, next to the jar in complete silence.

It was nice to see the way Gia treated Gin in regards to checking in on him and of course the hugs, but Jesse couldn't help but feel a little embarrassed for him - she wasn't sure how she herself would have reacted if her step-mother or even her Father had entered like that, but it was still nice to see.
She would wait until most of the others had gone for a cookie before leaving her seat to do the same - It was at the movement beside her that she would note the quiet female she had passed on the way to her desk transform and creep her way over. Being from a much hotter climate, she found it quite a curious beast - she was so fluffy for one and Jesse could only wonder how she was finding the summer heat? Still, taking a cookie from the plate, the Fennec Child would watch the Husky stalk forward, then as she appeared to contemplate on how to obtain her prize, rested her head on the desk as though waiting for an opportune moment...
"Need a hand?" Taking a spare cookie from the plate, Jesse would hold said cookie out to her fellow canine, giving it an enticing wave before taking a bite of her own. She knew how the hot weather left some people quite lethargic and wondered perhaps if that was why she hadn't just gone up and taken one for herself - the Fox didn't mind however, any chance to make a new friend was always welcome and if that meant offering a hand to another, then she was all fine for that.
As Thanya questioned the male as to what they'd be doing for that lesson, Jesse would wait for Rin's reaction before considering a return to her seat, or perhaps even a transformation back into her Fennec Form - the Husky would stand taller than her, but if they had chance to play outside, she would be eager to see how the new Shifter would fare in a race between them.

Gin had to hand it to Gia, the cookies were a hit. After all, who didn’t love cookies? Not that they should make a habit of having them for breakfast or anything…But still, Gin wasn’t going to pass up Gia’s cookies. Finishing off the cookie in his hand, he brushed his hands together to get rid of the crumbs.
Jace seemed very dignified, but also very reserved – like he didn’t want to draw too much attention to himself. Meanwhile Thanya seemed very excited about the class – he could tell that she had a desire to learn. Jesse looked like she was a bit sheepish about being late, but Gin knew that after a while she’d loosen up a little, have a cookie and slip into the rhythm of the class.
Watching as Gia placed a few cookies on a napkin and walked them over to Rin, who thought she was being sneaky, he smirked. Hearing his name, proceeded by ‘Mister’ was one of the weirdest things. Arching a brow, he looked over at Thanya. “You can just call me ‘Gin’…I only graduated a few months ago and I’m not that old…” He had no doubt that Rin would be highly amused by the fact that he’d been called ‘Mister Gin’ by one of her classmates.
Looking back to Gia as she returned to his side, he shrugged a little. “Well, while I hadn’t planned on running the class on my own, it seems that my mother dearest has left me no choice.” Gin said, giving Gia a playful nudge before he looked back to Thanya. “The next part of the introductions would be to introduce your shifted forms to the class.” Gin said with a little nod.
“We seem to have a few unique characters in the class and its nice to get to know one another’s forms in case we meet outside of class. As you all might already know, Shifters often get mistaken for common animals and sometimes its impossible to tell a shifter from a wild animal, so it would be a good idea for us to get familiar with one another.”
Looking over his shoulder at Rin, he then glanced at Jesse. “Rin already took the liberty of shifting, and we’ve seen Jesse’s fennec fox form…although you are free to shift back if you want Jesse…” Looking toward Thanya and Jace, he grinned. “That just leaves you two...So, who wants to shift next?”

  Ven wasn't usually late on the first day of class. That was one of the most important classes in his opinion so he didn't want to waste a minute of it; but that day, he made an exception. After breakfast Gianna pulled him aside, asking if he could 'get her carrot cake', and despite ordinarily being willing to get her what she wanted, Ven hesitated—he couldn't be late. But Gianna knew that and she wouldn't send him out without reason andhe'd admitted her real plan privately and Ven couldn't say he disagreed with it. It was Gin's first day and it'd do him some good getting to lead the class, if only for a short period of time.
So Ven found himself at the bakery in the city rather than at the academy, purchasing one of the more appetising carrot cakes in the shop, before returning home to drop it off. Gianna wasn't there, surprisingly, but he could tell that she'd only left recently. He didn't linger long though; he'd been away long enough so he shifted into his bear form to make it there faster.
He could smell Gianna and her cookies even before he reached the class and it made him took him aback for a moment. When she left after him, he hadn't expected her to come here at all, bearing gifts as well, but he wasn't surprised; Gianna liked to mother and it was Gin and Rin's first day. He paused when he reached the door, taking in the site of his class. He noted several new students, including the girl he encountered earlier in the summer, Thanya, sitting with a boy, a reptile shifter from what he could tell. Gianna herself was there of course, and the cookies he smelled were being feasted on by the rest of the class. He watched as Gin talked to the students and asking them to shift, a proud gleam in his eyes.
After the remaining students gave their demonstrations and not wanting to linger long lest the cookies all run out, Ven entered the class, taking care not to bump into Jesse who took the initiative to help feed a rather lethargic Rin. He sent them a small smile before raising an eyebrow at Gianna. "Now this wasn't something I expected to see today," he commented, turning to address the rest of the class. "Hello, I'm sorry for being late, but Gin took care of things well until now." He gave his son a grateful and apologetic nod. "I'm Ven Ackkerman and I'll be your Shifting professor for the rest of the year, and you've already met Gin and Gianna here."

As Jace slowly enjoyed his cookie he noticed what appeared to be a husky walking forward to the front of the class. He had not heard anyone enter, and upon looking back, saw that one person was missing. The girl named Rin. His gaze moving back to the front of the class where the husky was, he could only guess that she transformed into the husky. 'Or she took her chances and escaped in all the distractions here with this being yet another student.' He offered as another explanation but found it highly unlikely when her mother was here. If she were anything like his mother she wouldn't dare to do such a thing. Speaking of her mother, his first impression of her was a good one. She seemed nice but he would keep an eye on her just in case. You never know what was behind a friendly smile as he had learned with his family and their associates. But that was hardly a pressing issue for him currently as after Miss Kamsing devoured the cookie, it not lasting for more than a few seconds since she began, she addressed Gin and asked him of what would be done today and if she should shift. Jace almost paled at the mention of it, having hoped this distraction would last a while longer. He would feel betrayed that she had tried to refocus the class were it not for the fact that she was unaware that he hoped it wouldn't. Almost immediately following it Mrs Falkov also tried to focus in on how the class would progress. Seeing as the tides were turning, he didn't even notice how many cookies Rin was being given as he started concentrating. He knew how to read a group that were far more subtle, so with this sudden interest in the focus of the class he believed it may become a trend till everything was back on track. Which meant he only had a little time to try his best to prepare for when it was inevitably his turn.
As he began to concentrate, trying to shift yet it being nowhere near as instantaneous as everyone else, Gin would begin to speak. He would speak about it being good to know each others forms since they were almost indistinguishable in the wild...and that Miss Kamsing and Jace were the only ones left that needed to shift. Jace could feel all the pressure beginning to build with him to shift. He needed to focus to at least shift something that was visible. The first thought that came to mind was the snake skin that was so readily apparent with most of them. Thankfully, the presence of Professor Ackerman suddenly entering the room would buy him some time. He hoped. As he apologized for his lateness and introduced himself, commenting on his son and family, Jace was deep in concentration. He had never tried to shift the more visible parts of his raiment. When he was young and oblivious, he had partially shifted to gain a new sense but that was an invisible feature. He had never tried anything as noticeable as scales beforehand, and in truth didn't even know what color they would be. He had no clue if it was working but his skin was starting to feel weird. Still no sign of scales though. 'I need something to buy me a little more time.' He thought to himself, not knowing if it would truly help but it was the only thing he could cling to. His savior, a recurring one at this point, was Miss Kamsing. She saw his hesitation and took the initiative to shift herself. Jace noticed it but could spare no more attention to truly take the creature in more detail than seeing it as similar to what she described. He knew they would not have their attention held long on her before it would turn to him. He felt his skin feel weird again but this time...as he looked on his arm he saw intermittent green scales appear. It was by no means uniform and felt incredibly weird to have...but he had managed to have some green scales appear over him. Looking around though at everyone else who had fully shifted...He would hang his head a little low before he would begin to speak. "Regretfully...I have never fully shifted. This...is the best I am able to at this moment." His tone, usually neutral, had a bit of disappointment mixed into it. He had hoped he could magically shift instantly as a natural despite it being something he knew he could not do. He felt he had failed already. He kept his head bowed as he did not want the others to see the disappointment in his face. Sure, creating the scales meant he was not an entire failure...but seeing how effortless it was for others it was a poor substitute.

Jesse's large ears flopped outward with great disappointment as the Husky appeared to snub her offer - clearly the Fennec Child had missed her opportunity at making a new friend by being too late to offer but there was little she could do about it and so she would suck it up and let the moment pass.
There would be a momentary distraction as Ven entered the classroom and Jesse would take that moment to return to her Fennec Form, picking up the cookie she intended for Gia and padding across to her place before sitting down beneath the desk - if the Husky didn't want the cookie, then Jesse wouldn't let it go to waste. Staying beneath the desk, she would nibble at it quietly - lifting her gaze as one of the new students leapt from where she had situated herself on top of one of the spare desks before taking on her Shifted Form.
Although she couldn't exactly see Thanya very well from her position, Jesse was more than able to take note of the creature's tail as it curled around the leg of her desk - Was it perhaps Prehensile? The Fennec Child began to wonder if she might be able to use it like a fifth appendage - grasping the world around it for support - or even for slipping things from tables without others knowing? At the same time, her mind questioned if Thanya might even be able to hang upside down with it? What a sight that would be! Jesse could only dream of being able to do that herself - if she misjudged a jump, she could whip her tail round and catch hold of something nearby to stop her from falling...That Must be handy!
By the time Jace had attempted his shift, Jesse had finished the cookie and clambered her way back onto her seat. She could hear the disappointment in his voice and felt a little bad for him - to her, shifting was easy as she'd done it since she was very young, but with practice, she was sure he'd be able to transform fully one day.
Perhaps he would have better luck the next time he transforms? It was all down to practice afterall and there were plenty of lessons ahead of them. She would nod quietly to herself, then as the class began to draw to a close, she would hop down from her seat once again before padding out of the door.

‘Better late than never…’ Gin thought with a small smirk and a shake of his head as Ven entered the classroom. Given the fact that Gia had already explained what was going on with her and her shenanigans involving Ven, he wasn’t too irritated with his adoptive Father. After Ven made his introduction to the students, things seemed to get back on track. While Thanya got ready to shift, Gia and Ven had a moment, of which Gin heard his adoptive Mother's words. He felt proud knowing that he was making them proud. He'd certainly come a long way over the years...
Turning his attention back to the task at hand, he nibbled on another cookie as Thanya shifted into an animal he’d never seen before. She’d certainly been right when she’d described it…Although, her face reminded him a bit of a raccoon's, but in a good way. He had to wonder how she used her long, strong tail and what for.
“Wow, I’ve never seen someone shift into a bear-cat before, Thanya.” Gin said with a small smile of encouragement as she sat on the top of her desk, her tail trailing down to grasp the leg for balance. He had to wonder what other types of shifters there were, ones that he’d never seen or heard of…
Next was Jace, the reserved reptilian shifter who seemed very reluctant to shift. Even as Gin looked at him, the only change he could see were the batches of scales that appeared on Jace’s bare skin. Tilting his head to the side curiously, he had to wonder if Jace had trouble shifting. After a few moments of continued effort, Jace seemed to resign himself.
Nodding at the boy’s words, Gin looked to Ven for a moment before looking back to the snake shifter. “That’s alright, Jace. Shifting takes practice. If anything, that’s why you’re here right? To learn?” Why else would he come to the Academy? He could tell that Jace was embarrassed and a bit disappointed, but there was no need to feel shame. Deciding to make light of the situation, Gin looked to Ven.
“Hey Ven, remember that time during my first year when I get stuck in my wolf form for like a week?” He hadn’t so much ‘gotten stuck’ as he had just flat out refused to shift back for several days. It had irritated Ven to no end. Drawing the attention away from Jace with his antics, Gin gave the shifter a subtle wink to let him know that he had his back.

Jace, with head still bowed, heard Gin begin to speak. All other voices had been relatively screened out of his mind due to his disappointment in his self. He tried to comfort him and employ reasoning, which while he did appreciate the gesture, did not deter from the fact of how seamless it seemed for everyone else. He was forced here to practice his abilities until he could master them, so while he was here to learn, it had not been willingly. Eyes still downcast, though not as down as he was before, he would hear Gin speak again but this time mentioning he was stuck in his wolf form for a week when he first started. Head slowly raising to regard him, a teaching assistant, he almost couldn't believe it was the truth. 'He had trouble with it, yet managed to become proficient enough to be a teaching assistant?' He silently thought to himself. Knowing he was a graduate as well...gave Jace some hope and consolation. Though his issue was to shift at all, at least he was not the only one who could not do so easily. It meant he had a chance to learn enough to be as proficient as was expected of him. Jace would give him a grateful smile in return to his subtle wink knowing he had said such a thing for his sake. It was far nicer a reaction than he had been expecting, and for that he had a newfound respect for Gin. Class would end not too long later, and with spirits lifted, Jace would depart to his new room assignment. He knew not who he was with but he would find out in the morning as he would retire readily into bed after today.
