Ky'ra and Gold Zultoloth

A cry went out, and Zultoloth rose to answer! Tiernoth of Flame's Fury was in need. Deftly, the young queen made the catch, gently easing Tiernoth back to the Weyr for tending. Ky'ra winced as the dragon's claws tore into her gold's back, but kept them both steady. A life was more important than a temporary discomfort.

Quote:
Your gold makes the catch successfully! It goes relatively smoothly, and you're only too happy to deliver them back to the Weyr. Unfortunately, somewhere during the trip, the dragon's claws wind up cutting into your queen's back. Ouch! Minor Damage -2

They were only in the first hour of the 'Fall, and already a pair had died - and in their own wing, two had already fallen, first Somnuth and now Tiernoth. This day was proving brutal indeed, and would surely only worsen as the hours, winds, and Thread wore on them all. While his large size made him more difficult to be swept up by the gusting winds, it meant he also took quite a few more hits, as there was...well, quite a lot of him that could be hit.

As he did his best to twist his bulk to flame down a windswept tangle of silver before it could hit him, an especially strong gust caught his broad wings just so, and he was blown from formation - and the strain from trying to stop it renewed the ache in his pulled muscle.

Quote:
15. Your dragon is blown completely out of formation, and is too tired to stop it. Fellow wingriders notice, and trumpet warning, but your dragon is just too tired to care. The wind is too much! Moderate Damage -5HP Your dragon also now suffers Fatigue Effect For the next 3 rolled turns your dragon will suffer from Fatigue Effect. Any XP earned during those turns is negated. On the plus side, any negative status effect (i.e. additional Fatigue Effect, Guilt, Bitten Tongue, etc.) is also negated, since your dragon is too tired to care. The only exception is if you get a status that cures Fatigue or your Wingleader/Wingsecond rolls a status cancelling roll.)

And to top it off, as he returned to his place in formation, he was caught on the leg by a clump of Thread! Snarling frustration, he jumped between to be rid of it before it could do any significant damage.

J'lar and Loreleth continued to fight, focusing only on the wind and their immediate coverage area. Anytime he felt Loreleth's thoughts drift to the wounded and the dead, the large man distracted him with a comment or a gentle reminder. He knew his poor blue was tired, his wing still ached, and he was hurting emotionally from the mess... but now was a time to fight. The dead could, and would, be mourned over later.

Round 1, Roll 1If you are a green, or blue smaller than 30' you're easily able twist and wheel out of the way of the thick clumps. Instead, you're able to flame down a patch of Thread threatening your wingmates, and what a burst of flame it is! Quote a Wingmate who took Thread Damage and nullify it for this Round! +2 Flame Length

Roll 2: You try to flame down some Thread, but your flame comes up short. Whoops! Hopefully your Wingleader didn't see that. Nothing to be done about it now except eat some more firestone, and try to catch the next clump!

Roll 3: As you're flying, the wind picks up again, trying to knock you out of formation! If 23' to 35', you're able to fight it, but wind up straining a muscle. Whoops. Maybe you over-compensated. -4 HP

Roll 4: Your dragon is blown completely out of formation, and is too tired to stop it. Fellow wingriders notice, and trumpet warning, but your dragon is just too tired to care. The wind is too much! Roll 5: The wind picks up, and you fight to keep in formation. Your wings strain, but you're able to keep your place! Though your muscles ache, you're not going to give up so easily. Pern depends on you! +2 Stamina Fatigued

Roll 6: Are you feeling lucky? Well you should! Free reply! Respond to this post with any action pertaining to Threadfall, and gain a little luck. [+1 Luck] Fatigued

As Loreleth dodged one patch, something white and hot bloomed between their link. The dark blue dragon gave a hiss of surprise, but J'lar already had a visualization in mind. Between! He ordered immediately, hoping the empty area in front of them remained so.

One, two, three...

The blue dragon gave a small growl but otherwise decided to shake off the pain. It hurt, and his wing muscle was still sore, but the little blue wasn't ready to give up the fight yet.

The winds kicked up again, sending a sheet of Thread directly at the Wing. Loreleth creeled anxiously, but J'lar sent him a wave of assurance and certainty over their link. Ahead of us. Clear that patch. The angle the wing was flying, and the airspace around them, meant that his wingmates would certainly have trouble if the tangle made it through.

Loreleth obeyed, sending forth a burst of flame. Though he caught it, J'lar could sense the exhaustion in his blue. Just a little while longer, Lore. He promised, knowing full well they would be changing altitude soon. It couldn't happen soon enough. Perhaps the wind wouldn't be as taxing as it was this high up.

The threadscore ached, it burned and stung. But they'd already returned to the healers once, and... and surely they could make it just a little longer. The pair were nothing if not confident in themselves after all. Others might flag and fail... but not them. Strigonth chomped down into the stone, ready to fight...and then bellowed in ire, as his own teeth sank into his tongue.

J'lar couldn't tell what was worse... Thread or the wind. The gusts just weren't making it easy for his poor blue, and the deadly enemy was getting blown around far too easily. That one, Mine! Loreleth instructed, trying valiantly to catch a deadly patch. Unfortunately, the wind separated them, but both rider and dragon were determined. A quick visualization, and the pair disappeared for a brief moment... only to reappear flaming.

Thankfully, the jump was clean, and the wind cooperated. The threads turns to harmless ash to sprinkle upon their wingmates below.

Things changed quickly...

One moment, he was encouraging his blue, the next minute, there was a squeal of pain, and a hard jerk from Loreleth. Neither rider nor dragon had noticed the patch falling directly behind them. J'lar twisted, only to find that Thread was right upon them. The silvery stuff struck his back, side, and leg, and he automatically tried to push it away--which did nothing.

Shaffit. Loreleth! Between! The man visualized a jump over to the side, hoping that both rider and dragon might avoid any surprise patches. The cold of the frozen nothingness was a temporary blessing. One... Two... Three...

And back into the fray they appeared. Immediately, J'lar twisted, checking his riding straps, checking his back and sides, trying to ensure nothing got eaten or chewed off. While he could feel holes in his gear, could feel holes in the side of his pants and leg, and felt pain over half of him... It seemed as if Between had worked it's magic. You okay--

Something wasn't right. The pain in his back and shoulder was only getting worse. In fact, it almost felt like... Oh shaffit to Bitra and back! Between Lore, Between! Though panic gripped him, he visualized the Weyr Bowl, hoping to Faranth he could get there in time. It didn't take long for Thread to eat a man alive. Every second was one second closer to something vital being snacked upon. If Thread found his bones, or an artery, or an organ, he was officially a dead man.

[Moving this to the infirmary/Healers... he can't make a Healing roll yet, but I will place him there.]

Roll 7: Ouch! You had successfully flamed Thread but the gust push the ash back into you as you fly! The hot ash cloud burns as you fly through it, but you're made of tougher stuff than that! The focus is Thread, not pain! [+2 Pain Resilience] Fatigued

Roll 8: The thread is thick and coming down fast. Unlike the lower wings, you don't have to chase this Thread around -- it's just about everywhere you turn! This is what your dragon was made for, this is what you, as a rider, were meant to do. Burn down those Threads so they are no longer a threat to your wingmates and the people of Pern! Your dragon flames a patch ahead of them, clearing some airspace for your wingmates below. +1 Flame Length

Roll 9: A clump of Thread falls right before you! Unfortunately, the wind pushes you and the Thread away from one another. With determination, you fight the wind, trying valiantly to get to the great enemy! You hop Between, hoping to get closer, and flame the Threads that threaten to fall through! Roll a D4 to see if you successfully Between!

Success! You appear close to your target and are able to flame it down successfully! [+1 Between Accuracy]

10. You take a direct hit from Thread! The question is, where!? Roll a D4

Thread hits your leg and side, as well as your dragon's back and shoulders. Though you immediately jump between, some of the Thread is partially protected by your riding gear. As you return from its cold, and continue on the fight, it takes a moment to realize the wriggling Thread has eaten through your clothes, and is starting to burrow into you!!! GET BACK BETWEEN AND BACK TO THE WEYR TO BE DUNKED! Major Damage: -12 HP Your next post must be with the healers so you can get dunked into the pools, in hopes of drowning the borrowing Thread. Death is also an option.
