As Bitah and Phocath joined the fray, the plump dragon gave a trumpet of encouragement to his wing.

Stay strong, friends! If we fly as one we shall ensure not one bit of Thread reaches the ground! Bitah gave a little whoop of agreement, standing in her saddle as best she could, calling out to the skies. Phocath caught sight of Mharlith who looked as if he'd just bitten his tongue and, knowing how painful that could be, called out to him.

Focus, Mharlith! We need you now, fight through the pain! He sent a surge of reassuring confidence in his fellow brown, knowing that he could pull through despite the ache.

Ulendoth was giddy on the wing as usual. This was what she was born to do and she was flying high both physically and metaphorically. Neither rider or dragon had faced thread full force before. Though the danger was real and ever present with the silvery wisps of deadly thread. Excitement was unavoidable.

'Right Ulen. Steady head. Steady wing got it?'
I got it.

Ulendoth replied brimming with confidence as they targeted their first clump of thread. The green pulled back her head, summoned all her heat and expelled fire at the enemy.
It caught and turned to dust in an instant with a cathartic sizzle and crackle left in it's wake.

But the green rider pair were still the newbies and the wind was not their friend. A simple shift and the wind blew right back in their faces. Roana grunted as the ash stung at her even through her clothes and she felt it leaving streaks along her bonded's neck and shoulder but they both shook it off well.

"Okay well. We'll get better at that part." Ro assured them both. Onto the next flame!

18. Thread falls, and a sneaky strand winds up chewing on your wingsail. You pop Between to ease the pain, and come out flaming. It hurts, but it's small tubers compared to what it could have been! +1 Pain Resilience]

After his little speech Phocath gave a little snarl of pain and together with Bitah jumped Between, freezing the offending bit of Thread from his wing. They returned without flinching from the cold nor the remaining pain, the brown acting as though nothing had happened at all.

Flaming down a few patches of thread, Phocath gave another roar of encouragement for those nearby.

Yes, keep it up! Together we can do it! He flamed down another clump and held his position within the formation, feeling energized and alive, moreso than when he was on the ground.

Glancing aside, Phocath spotted another wingmate looking as if he was in pain. He gave a trumpet to the bronze to get his attention before reaching out mentally with a surge of encouragement.

Courage, Hyglath! Pain is temporary, we need your strength! Fight through it, show Thread the resilience of bronze dragons!

20. You appear from Between and find the space you were hoping would be clear now has a large sheet of Thread being guested towards it. You've only a moment to decide where to go, and both you and your dragon pick a spot and hop Between in an attempt to avoid Thread. Roll a D4 and take whatever damage or XP you're given!
2: You appear close to the clump. Your dragons wings are grazed, but another quick hop and you're fully clear of the danger. [Minor Damage -1 HP.

Jumping Between to avoid a clump of thread, Bitah and Phocath found themselves staring down a huge sheet that had somehow made it through the higher altitude. Together they focused on a point, jumped, and misjudged just how far the Thread would fall in the few moments they were gone. Phocath jumped Between again on instinct as he felt Thread touch his wings once more, but they appeared safely once more.

Working hard to flame down Thread, Phocath and Bitah both didn't notice the cloud of ash from a fellow wingmate blowing their way. The hot soot seared their skin, making both rider and dragon give a shout and a roar in surprise, but it was temporary if painful. They flew on, only realizing then that their formation seemed to be missing someone...

Lireloth! Phocath cried out to a dragon no longer there. He gave a long, low creel of pain and sorrow as he looked around for his fellow brown as if that might bring him back. Bitah felt the overwhelming sadness of her dragon rise within her but she had to fight back tears. They had just begun the fight and if they gave into emotions now there would be more deaths to be had. Focus. Mourning could come later.

The Bronzepair took to the sky with ease showing a practiced form they had honed over the best few turns that Thread had returned. Strands were flamed, close calls dodged. Gareth let out a belch of flame as he pushed himself forward, the streak lighting up the sky. A'dras easily tossed the bronze another chunk of firestone. Even though they were moving with relative ease, it was still the beginning, after all.

Gareth was the one who saw the danger first. The bronze let out a trumpet of a roar as he reached out to Green Ulendoth. Careful of the ash Ulendoth!

Ulendoth's flame was hot and steady and they took down several more clumps. But a sudden sharp pain cut through Ro's chest as Ulendoth 's cry was stifled by the wind.

A true loss.
It was enough distraction to take them off guard, and the wind caught them just as the wingleader himself shouted his warning allowing them to duck another dangerous clump of ash.

I see it! A'drasMine!

Tucking his wings close to his body Gareth dove down belching flame as he went. The silver strands caught fire quickly turning to ash. Snapping his wings open, Gareth caught the air, flying back up to where he was.

The pain was sudden for the both of them, almost causing Gareth to drop the firestone from his mouth as he continued to chew. Pushing through it, Gareth focused upon the fight ahead.
