"Owww...." It had been about a month since Ophelia's scheme and it was more or less business as usual. Today though Balthazar was hobbling back in from a particularly rough mission that had just about all the top fighters sent to get the job done. The author is feeling particularly unimaginative, so no, you don't get to know what the job was. It was just really, super rough, okay? Anyway, Balthazar hobbled in, scraped and bruised all over as he flopped into bed. "I think you need to add a new job rank to the system; 'Professionals Only'." he groaned as he pushed himself off to go find some first aid.

Ophelia quickly abandoned her paperwork to go get the first aid supplies herself, motioning for Balthazar to stay on the bed. She looked somewhat worried, but wasn't about to scream and cry about it when she'd certainly seen worse. "Since you were kind enough to go through with it anyway, I'll take care of those cuts and bruises for you. You just sit and relax as best you can."

"Well I am still technically part of the guild, even if I am teacher's pet." Balthazar joked with a pained smile as she systematically cleaned and bandaged every wound. "I gotta earn my keep around here somehow, right?"

"You certainly do an excellent job of it." Ophelia wasn't sure whether or not Balthazar knew it, but he'd actually accumulated quite the reputation within the guild even despite his avoidance of most of the other members. More advanced mercenaries looked up to him or thought of him as the perfect test of skill. Greenhorns were, quite honestly, scared shitless of him. Regadless of rank, though, the results of his work proved to nearly everyone under Dulcinea's command that his being the favorite was almost certainly well earned. As much as she adored Balthastern, Ophelia didn't feel the need to inflate his ego any further than it already had been.

"I'm surprised to hear you say that." Before, Balthazar seemed to be far more enthusiastic about using and abusing his kingly rights than Kaistern ever did. (He was also equally eager to see her dead, but if that little bit changed it shouldn't be much of a shock that his want for political power might change too.) "Still, I'm glad to know you're enjoying yourself.."

An awkward silence had started to fill the air while Balthazar looked off somewhere into space while Ophelia kept mending him up. Kaistern had rather begrudgingly given the okay, if only because of how stupid it was to say no, though neither had said anything to Ophelia yet. Part of it was that Balthazar had jack all idea about how to go about saying any of the sappy stuff that his counterpart was so good at....Now there was a thought. Of course Kaistern wasn't sure about it, but it was just for now. Maybe if he played pretend long enough the words would come to him. Not like you could tell the difference between the two outside of their manner of speech. A small chuckle escaped Balthazar's lips. "I suppose even the best fighters have their off days. I may have to put a cap on what sort of jobs to let him go on before he gets us both killed."

Ophelia, admittably, felt a little guilty seeing how bruised and cut up Balthastern was for the moment being. (Still, he was among the most valuable members in her guild - if not the most valued.) More relevantly to the situation at hand, Ophelia believed that Kaistern had taken over and that he was indeed the one who was talking to her for the moment being.

Still, sometimes I feel like there's something I can do to make things better that I'm clearly failing at." Ophelia let out a soft sigh before returning the kiss, although she aimed for the lips instead of just giving him a cheek-kiss in turn. "Whatever it is, let me know if I can be of any assistance. Please?"

"You're here, and safe, and that's all I could ever need." Balthazar said as he pulled her into his arms, holding her close for what seemed like an eternity. Yes, this was far better than just being some psychically linked voyeur.
