Joey walked over to her and sat next to her. He gazed out at the water. "There aren't very many people here. This is a very secluded cove and the nearest village is several miles inland." He smiled at her, then his gaze returned to the sea.

She looked over at him, taking in his... humaness, she supposed. They weren't built nearly as streamline. "You say you met mermaid?" She'd only met a couple but she'd kept her distance. They weren't nearly as interesting as humans.

Joshua gasped quietly as he saw the undine. "Oh, wow." The words came out as a whisper. Undines were extremely shy creatures. So shy, that Joshua had had to dig deep to even find some legends. "They're amazing...." He looked around himself, eyes wide. He could hardly believe what he was saying. "Thank you Katalina." Joshua kept his voice soft, afraid of scaring the undines.

"Yes, though only briefly, so I don't really know her character that well." He smiled and looked at her. Her fins were smooth and she had two almost transparent fins on her back. "Um...do you mind if I...um...touch them?" He indicated to her fins on her back.

She glanced back, realising he what he wanted to touch. She smiled. "Sure." She turned her back to him slightly so he could touch them with more ease.

Joey lifted his hand and lightly ran it down one of the fins. "Wow...so smooth..." He smiled softly.

Joey grinned mischievously. "Oh, really? That is good to know." He ran his fingers over the fin lightly, hoping to provoke a reaction.

(( You mean Joey? ))
Aoife laughed, it sounding a little like bells. Turning her fins away, she shoved at his hands. "Stop!" She giggled.

(( Kay. Night. ))
Aoife looked confused again. "Family?" She looked out at the water. "Not really." She hadn't been born like others. Ice and water were what had created her. "I born no parents. The sea is my father."

One of the nymphs, smaller than the others and either more adventurous or just younger, broke away from the group and came up to Joshua, inspecting him with large, luminous blue eyes. It chittered at him for a moment or two, then tilted its head expectantly.
A bigger undine made a few distressed-sounding noises, looking at Katalina. The mermaid soothed it with a smile and a few telepathic words - she couldn't verbally communicate with the nymphs, but telepathically they understood one another.
She glanced back at Joshua, wondering what he would say to this adventurous little undine.

Joshua watched as the undine came closer. He glanced at Katalina when it began chittering at him. "Can they understand me?" He asked. It was apparent that he couldn't understand them, but maybe they could understand him. Still, as he waited for the mermaid's response, he held out a hand. "They're so amazing. Do you realize how few legends there are about them? The only thing to be found really, is that they're extremely shy and live in water."

"Ah, I see. I used to have a mother and father." He smiled softly. "It must be hard to understand the concept of parenting for you."

Katalina smiled. "No," she told him. "They can't understand you, unless you have a telepathic connection to them. Just a moment, I'll explain to her. She's probably too young to give you one, but perhaps a parent can."
She didn't seem to say anything, but the little nymph turned to her, chittered for a second or two, then fell silent. Then it turned to Joshua and held out its tiny webbed hands to him, the interlingual order Pick me up.
Katalina nodded. "I know that there isn't much about them. That's why I brought you. I thought you might like to see that they do exist." She lifted a brow. "Go ahead. If she wants you to pick her up, there's a reason."
