Joshua nodded his understanding. So they were telepaths, were they? He stored the info away for later. Being telepathic was probably the reason there was so little about them. He realized the most of the legends centered around beings that could talk back. Some, like the kraken, were just simply too big to miss for too long. Joshua reached out both of his hands and picked up the little undine. He cradled her to his chest, as he would hold a young human. The little undine was light in his arms.

Aoife smiled sheepishly. "Is parenting important matter?"

Joey nodded. "Yes. It is very important. Without parenting, much of the human race would not be as advanced as it is now. When we are born, we are totally dependent on our parents. They feed us, teach us, and we learn. We learn common skills from our parents, from walking to clothing ourselves." He smiled. "We weren't born with the skills needed to survive. That is why we have our parents. They teach us those things. You also have the greatest times with them, too..."

Aoife looked at her hands that rested on top of the water. "I was born as I am." She said carefully.

He sighed. "I see. That must be sad. Among all other things, one of the best things that you get from parenting is the wonderful memories you have from them..." He smiled as he remembered his own parents.

"My parents..." His face fell visibly at the mention of them. "They were kind, warm hearted, and willing to help anyone in need. They loved the sea and all its wonders. My mother was highly intelligent and quick witted. My father was strong and cunning..." His voice faded away and he stared at the ocean.

Aoife tilted her head. She reached an arm out and touched his shoulder. "It hurts you...not having them." She said simply. Then took her hand away and also looked out at the ocean.

He nodded, a single tear running down his cheek. "More than you can imagine." He continued to stare out at the ocean.

She had glanced back at him. Her eyes widened at the tear. She wiped it from his face and stared at it.

Joey just stared at her for a couple seconds, then he burst out laughing. He couldn't help it. "No...no, it...it doesn't..." He stopped laughing and took a deep breath. "That is a tear. The ocean does not come from tears. Tears show when someone is sad. It is called crying."
