((Avatar layering confounds me once again. I felt like fiddling around with my avatar a bit and decided to try sticking a broach or pin on, and when it did, it felt the need to remove my gloves.))
"I know it's been four years since we got out, and yeah, more people are aren't caring as much, but there are still plenty of places that aren't so nice. I've covered most of the US, so trust me when I say that for every city that does accept us, there are four others that don't. And when your own family falls under the latter category, you're going to have a negative outlook...." Adrian said with grim acceptance. Maybe his insecurities about his appearance had come back, or maybe it was just not having Amaya around to keep his self-esteem up that did it. He still hadn't figured it out.

((Yeah, it bothers me.))
A sigh escaped Amaya's lips as she looked at Adrian sadly. She took her empty plate to the sink and rinsed it before putting it in the dishwasher. "Adrian...if it bothers you so much, why not get the cure?" She asked when she came back to the table.

"I don't know really..." Adrian sighed as he pushed around the few noodles left on his plate. "Like I said, it's always been a love/hate relationship towards these things. Before I figured it'd be easier for you to pick me out from a crowd, but now...I guess I just don't want to find myself wanting it all back later down the line with no way to get it. I can get the cure at any time, but turning back is a one time deal. Besides, it's hard to beat the feeling of soaring way up high, miles away from anything except birds and clouds."

Smith sat back in his chair as Flitt, the teleporting Mutate he used to send out invitations to the City, reported back in. "Sir, five more have accepted the invitation, two rejected it, three had opted for the cure between our discovery and the delivery."
Smith nodded and handed Flitt the next list of ten. No more words were exchanged before Flitt left.
...
Flitt appeared on Amaya's front doorstep, posting the letter on the door and knocking three times quite loudly before departing for the next invitee.
To whom it may concern:
It has come to my attention that a member of this household is now or was at some point in the recent past in possession of one of various genetic anomalies referred to by the layman as the 'Mutate Gene.' I am as aware as anyone that our kind are often unwelcome in 'normal' society, and have combined this with my keen sense of irony to turn the former Arena into the City. Whatever adjective you wish to append to that descriptor will likely fit equally well. I cordially invite you to visit, stay if you like, or tell others of the City's existence. It has only recently been opened to the public, after three years of construction. I look forward to meeting you soon.
Your humble servant, CTS

"All I've heard from you so far is how much you hate how people treat you like this. I just hate to see you like this...I feel like it's the first day I met you in the caverns all over again.." She murmured, now cleaning up Calista's plate.

"It's been four years. People change after all....." Adrian said with a bit of a sad smile. "Besides, it sounds like I've been getting the short end of the stick compared to how you've been doing." he said trying to brighten up a little as he looked back at her.

((so neither Amaya nor Adrian nor Callista react to the loud knocking on the door? Nor the letter detailed in my first IC post nailed thereto?))

"Calista, why don't you go watch tv?" Amaya asked, nodding to the living room.
Calista looked up at her mother and nodded, heading off into the living room to watch tv.
Once Calista was gone, Amaya took a seat next to Adrian, facing him as she took his hand in her. "It hasn't been easy for me either. I had to work for a long time to get over everything that happened down there. Adrian...I love you...and you have no idea how happy I am to finally see you again. I'm only happy because Calista is safe and growing up the way I wanted her to." She told him softly.
Calista heard the knock at the door and opened it, grabbing the letter and looking over it as she sat down on the couch, attempting to read it.

Adrian tightened his grip on her hand as he lifted a wing to wrap around her shoulders. "I love you too Amaya...and I think I've just been waiting for someone to take one look at me and go "so what?" I made the choice to look like this, I don't want to think it was wrong." he said resting his head against hers.

"You didn't make the wrong choice. You know I fell in love with you the way you are now. It just hurts to see you be so upset with the way you are when you know I love you.." Amaya told him, resting her head against his as well.

Adrian chuckled lightly. "I'm a wandering musical artist, I'm pretty sure 'angst' is part of my job description." he said lifting his head for a moment upon seeing Calista come back with a letter from the corner of his eye. He lifted his head for a moment to look over and see her trying to read it before looking back at Amaya. "I think you've got mail."

She sighed, taking the letter. "Smith?...He's still down there?" Amaya asked as she read the letter. "He wants us to visit? What's up with that?" She asked as she handed the letter back to Adrian.

Adrian let out a low whistle as he read over the letter. "Well, he was the guy that liked to fight and said he'd prefer to stay."
