Physical Description: N’den is a handsome enough man. He stands 5’6” with a well-muscled body from a turns of dragon riding and only has a small wine belly that has recently developed. His face and hands are weathered brown from so many turns in the sun. His hair is light blond which he keeps very short in a buzz cut to keep cool in the western heat. N’den has light green eyes. He likes to wear fine, colorful leather clothes.

Rider N'den's Personality

N’den is a highly perceptive man. He often shows keen insight and understanding of situations which makes him an excellent rider; he’s able to adjust quickly to changes in the wing, thread, or when he’s flirting. Being a rider, and a good one, has given him a certain chip on his shoulder. N’den walks with confidence wherever he goes. His interactions with male holders can certainly come off as condescending or arrogant.

When around other riders, particularly women riders, and women in general, N’den is very gregarious. He loves to be sociable with the opposite sex and frequently seeks out their company. Women of the holds are equally fair game for his advances. N’den has a certain reputation around Western Weyr and local holds of being a womanizer; which is certainly well deserved given his four children by several different women. He’s not super particular if the women are weyr or hold bred.

N’den loves to cause feelings of happiness and enthusiasm among his favorites. He often brings gifts and sometimes wine when he visits to bring feelings of excitement to his ladies. They should be happy and overjoyed to see him! When he does get wine, more often than not he will drink it himself. He does have an unhealthy fondness for wine and should be watched carefully around it.

Rider N'den's History

Nyalden was born to a pair of unassuming cavern workers of Western Weyr. He grew up like many weyrbrats. He had his friends and his rivals; the young boy got into the usual amount of trouble any child does. An accident while playing when he was 9 resulted in a broken arm, but thanks to quick intervention by the weyrhealer he healed up normally.

He quickly discovered girls and the joys of hanging out with them. Nyalden was often tormented by the other male weyrbrats for the flock of ladies he kept around him. Often he was mocked and told he hung out with girls so much he should have been born one. He knew the other boys were just jealous that all the girls were interested in him.

When he was 19, after standing for numerous clutches at Western Weyr, an angry brown singled him out from among his group of ladies. Come away from them, Nyaldenmine. You have no need for such a gaggle when your Belengath is here. N’den, as he later decided to shorten his name, was enthused with his new dragon even if they didn’t always see eye to eye on the matter of women.

He has managed to impress two firelizards. Both times he was lucky enough to find a wild firelizard clutch hatching on the beach. The first time, he impressed a blue he named Eito when he was 26, and the second time he attracted a green he named Rilessu when he was 28.

His first child was born to a cavern worker of Western Weyr when he was 33. It was the result of a fling from a flight. N’den sired a second child, also a girl, on a woman from Black Sands. Everything seemed fine for 7 turns but then mother and child suddenly vanished. N'den spent as much free time as he could spare for three turns searching for the pair. Eventually 3 turns later he tracked them down to Bitra Hold. The mother had passed away from unknown causes, but N'den claimed Sonnaden as his own and brought her back to the weyr. His last children were twins born to a woman who lived at a minor hold of Western Weyr’s territory. They were born when he was 44. His children were not aware they had half siblings.

Tradedy struck his family of the minor hold when he was 58. A bad fall occurred over the minor hold. As soon as he was freed from his duties as a rider he sent his two firelizards to check up on his family there. When word came back the twin’s mother, Cinrae, had perished the brownrider went immediately set things up for the twins to move to the Weyr. The next day N’den arrived at the minor hold, helped his children pack up and load their meager belongings onto Belengath, and brought them to the Weyr.

He was grateful when his oldest child, Bionden, instantly took to the orphans and helped them get their bearings. N’den loved all his children and was happy to have them at the weyr. He eagerly watched each hatching in the hopes that one or more would be found acceptable by a dragon. So far, no dragon has stepped forward to claim one, and now Bionden is nearing the end of her term as a candidate. He hopes she will find her dragon among this last clutch.

Physical Description: Belengath is a hefty brown with slightly shorter legs than normal for his color, making him look rather stocky and built low to the ground. His wings are perfect to give him good maneuverability. His flame tends toward short and broad.

Personality: Belengath likes the quieter life. He is easily angered by the loud and raunchy, and can snap with scathing remarks about the behavior. Unlike his rider, the brown much more prefers the quiet company of 1 or 2 close friends. He is paranoid the woman are just there to use his rider for their advantage. Belengath dislikes letting any of them ride him if they are not riders themselves and makes no bones about showing it.

He doesn’t like N’den’s womanizing ways. The brown wants to see the man settle down with a good woman, though it doesn’t look like it’ll happen any time soon. Belengath will often point out good potential women to his rider, but usually gets the shrug off by N’den in favor of some of his hanger ons. He also disapproves of his rider drinking too much. Belengath monitors his rider and lets N’den know when he’s hit his limit.

This dragon is smart. He’s able to utilize he’s rider’s good perception of situations and act. This is particularly useful during threadfall. Even without his rider, Belengath is able to think on his feet. He is a simple dragon with simple enjoyments in life. A sunny ledge or beach, a fine herdbeast, or an afternoon being doted upon by his rider is all that it takes to make him happy.

Bionden is a very caring woman with a big heart. She’s been known to take in “strays”; typically younglings uprooted to the weyr from search. She helps them learn their way around the weyr and get their bearings on the way thing are run. Once they have their bearings, Bionden will let them go free and move on to the next one. She’s a bit prejudiced in assuming that the newly searched candidates need help. Bionden doesn’t always consider that some adapt easier to their new life than others.

Bionden is a vain woman. She knows she’s beautiful and she isn’t above it to her advantage. The young woman loves beautiful things; clothes, jewelry, makeup, anything that make will make her in turn more attractive. She has expensive tastes and doesn’t shy away from it. Bionden is also very accessible. She enjoys being available and approachable; either for her siblings, her adopted strays, or her lover. The woman tends to find social places that she can be easily reached or found.

Behind her good looks is a good mind. Bionden is incisive. In any given situation she’s quick to analyze and act as needed. She’s able to give clear and direct orders to others in a way without giving offense to those of higher rank. If she wasn’t so prone to procrastinating, she might even make a semi-decent leader. Alas the young woman doesn’t comprehend time critical deadlines and often finds herself rushing at the end to finish things. Thus her work isn't outstanding, but it is passable.

Weyrling B'den's History

Bionden was born nearly 30 turns ago to a cavern worker and a rider named N’den who rides brown Belengath. She grew up mainly in the crèche a both her parents were busy with their duties for the weyr. As she got older, the young girl helped the crèche caretakers with their younger charges. Bionden was 13 when her father was gone for several days. He brought back her sister Sonnaden.

At first she wasn’t sure how to interact with Sonnaden; then Bionden realized her younger sister was floundering. It was at this point she stepped up and took her sister under her wing. Some could say that Sonnaden was the first victim of Bionden’s mother henning.

When she came of age, the young teen joined the candidates in standing for dragon clutches. Although she didn’t impress a dragon her first time, her father did bring her a firelizard egg. Bionden named the green that hatched Tichat. She continued to stand in the hopes her dragon would find her. She was 19 turns old when she almost got mauled during a hatching. The dragonet pounced and only tripping just a second before saved her from getting mauled.

When she was 25 turns, a serious shock was dealt with the return of Thread. She knows her mother worries for her father whenever he has to go out and fight. Bionden is aware that if she does impress a dragon, she will too face a fate similar to her father. She learned of her 14-turn old half siblings a turn later when her father brought the twins to the weyr. Their mother had been killed in the attacked in the most recent threadfall of the area.

Her doting nature went into overdrive. Bionden took the two young teens immediately under her care. She helped soothe them when they awoke from nightmares and helped them get accustomed or at least learn the ways of the weyr. The woman was amused by Raiden’s reaction to her free ways around the weyr. She’s done her best to show them the weyr’s ways. When the twins were 16, she gave them each a firelizard egg.

Now at 29 she knows this is likely her last chance to Impress. Bionden isn’t concerned though. If she does great, if not then she’ll find something else to do. She’s considered wherhandling or become a cavern worker like her mother. While she hasn’t fully decided she’s keeping her options open for now.

Origin of Name: Rioja is a wine region in northern Spain and is the traditional red wine that is used as the base of your standard sangria.

Sangria is an alcoholic beverage from Spain.

A punch, sangria traditionally consists of red wine and chopped fruit, often with other ingredients or spirits.

Sangria is one of the most popular drinks in Spanish cuisine. It is commonly served in bars, restaurants, and chiringuitos, and at festivities throughout Portugal and Spain.

Sangría literally means bloodletting in Spanish. The term sangria used for the drink can be traced back to the 18th century. According to the SAGE Encyclopedia of Alcohol, sangria's origins "cannot be pinpointed exactly, but early versions were popular in Spain, Greece, and England."

Sangaree, a predecessor drink to sangria that was served either hot or cold, likely originated in the Caribbean (West Indies), and from there was introduced to mainland America, where it was common beginning in the American colonial era but "largely disappeared in the United States" by the early twentieth century. Sangria as an iced drink was reintroduced to the U.S. by the late 1940s through Hispanic Americans and Spanish restaurants, and enjoyed greater popularity with the 1964 World's Fair in New York.

Under European Union law, the use of sangria in commercial or trade labeling is now restricted under geographical labeling rules.

The European Parliament approved new labeling laws by a wide margin in January 2014, protecting indications for aromatized drinks, including sangria, Vermouth and Glühwein. Only sangria made in Spain and Portugal is allowed to be sold as "sangria" in the EU; sangria made elsewhere must be labeled as such (e.g., as "German sangria" or "Swedish sangria" ).

The definition of sangria under European Union law from the 2014 Regulation states that it is an:

Aromatized wine-based drink
—which is obtained from wine,
—which is aromatised with the addition of natural citrus-fruit extracts or essences, with or without the juice of such fruit,
—to which spices may have been added,
—to which carbon dioxide may have been added,
—which has not been coloured,
—which have an actual alcoholic strength by volume of not less than 4,5 % vol., and less than 12 % vol., and
—which may contain solid particles of citrus-fruit pulp or peel and its colour must come exclusively from the raw materials used.

‘Sangría’ or ‘Sangria’ may be used as a sales denomination only when the product is produced in Spain or Portugal. Personality: If you're ready to relax and have a good time, Riojath is the right dragon for the job. She can be found snoozing in the sun or enjoying a lengthy bath in her free time, soaking in the peace and happiness of being with friends and loved ones while sharing stories and laughs. Riojath is at her best when she's with others and thrives off social interaction, which is probably the only reason she can be talked into lessons. It takes a lot to rile Riojath up, even when someone is actively trying to push her buttons, and any irritation that does build up usually rolls right off her shoulders. There is such a thing as too easy-going, though, and Riojath tests that limit frequently. She dislikes physical activity and much prefers to have her siblings or rider do things for her. Training can be a struggle after a certain point and if she knows there's a big workout in store for her she's quite reluctant to get moving. A bit of love from her rider can usually coax her into being active but they will need to have a firm hand and not let her take advantage of them.

A social butterfly, Riojath finds it easy to get along with just about everyone. She knows just what stories will bring a shy dragon out of their shell or what jokes will make a stony-faced Wingleader smile. She has a knack for reading someone's mood and shifting her own to match their energy level, rarely stepping on toes or making a social faux pas. Riojath has friends in every circle within the weyr and she likes being able to greet just about anyone she sees by name, whether or not they're riders or dragons. It takes all types to make a Weyr run and she loves to chat with the cooks, the children, and the healers as well as the Candidates and riders that she sees so frequently. Having her nose in so many places leaves her quite prone to the rumor mill and if there's a new scandal in the Weyr you know Riojath has all the details. She loves a good, juicy story and is terrible at keeping secrets. Since she has so many contacts of her own she can quickly verify a story to find out if it's true and, if it is, can usually gather up new tidbits of information to spread around. Her little habit has the chance to come back to bite her if she's not careful, so her rider best keep an ear on whatever rumors she's spreading.

Nothing makes Riojath happier than love. Platonic love, romantic love, familial love, it's all so warm and wonderful and grand! She gives her love freely to any who want or need it - even those who think they don't - and is always there to console or comfort someone who needs a little extra attention. At her core she is a caring, maternal creature who thrives off of seeing others made happy and whole and she is always there to support anyone who needs it. She loves children and weyrlings especially and will gladly lavish attention on them whenever she has the chance. Because she is so free with her affection Riojath often leaves a trail of broken hearts behind her. She loves and leaves, always looking for the next dragon to lavish her attention on. While some might try to make her stay she never does, always eager to move on and spread her love and care to someone new. There's a bit of a thrill in it for her as well as she looks for dragons that seem they might be a tough nut to crack, determined to warm everyone's hearts with her own.

Physical Attributes: Riojath is fairly average in length but certainly tips the scales, weighing in on the heavier side. She is a rotund green, all curves and no angles, but she wears her extra weight proudly. As a young dragon it might pass as baby fat but as she grows it will become apparent that Riojath is a beautiful, soft girl. Nicely proportioned otherwise, Riojath's tail forks have a permanent upward curl, probably due to how she developed in the egg.
Additional Notes: Despite her aversion to physical activity, Riojath hides a surprising amount of strength under her extra padding. Though her stamina is lacking - which is normal for a green - she certainly gets a lot done in the time she has. Her rider best hang on during sharp turns and sudden changes of direction, this girl can pack a punch with how much power is tucked into those tight movements! While fighting Thread she is best at chasing down loose strands that others in her wing may have missed, her impressive flame length helping to eliminate any stragglers.

Riojath loves love and rises frequently, though she rarely lets the same dragon catch her more than once. She likes options, you see, and settling down just isn't for her. There's enough of Riojath to go around and everyone deserves a taste! A shiny gold or bronze hide is a quick way to catch her attention, but her chromatic kin can woo her with a bit of extra work. Color doesn't matter to Riojath in the end, just someone who is looking to have a good time. If she were to settle down whoever her mate is should be open-minded to her flirting with other dragons, or possibly even welcoming a third dragon into the relationship.

Impression Effect: Bionden is going to find herself with a lot more natural charm and an air about her that is partially magnetic, especially when pair with her vanity. Riojath's charm will rub off on her almost immediately.

Bionden and Riojath were a perfect match. To start, Bionden's desire to fuss over, and care for younger Candidates and others in need go hand-in-hand with Riojath's loving and comforting nature. The two of them can now perfectly smother all sorts of riders, dragons, littles, Candidates, wingmates, and strangers within the Weyr. With their powers of the heart combined, there is no place to hide from these caring ladies. They are both very approachable, and their clutchmates and wingmates will never struggle to find a friend in them both. Riojath adores being a social creature, and her rider's acceptance and desire to care for so many is a trait that drew her from the start. That said, there are differences that make them a great pair. Bionden is incisive and tends not to waffle when it comes to making quick decisions, while Riojath is notoriously fickle and lazy. While Riojath might sometimes bring out the procrastinator within her rider, Bionden will be able to make decisions and stick with them--even if her dragon starts changing her mind, or decides she hasn't the energy to participate or drive to answer a summons. There will certainly be days where "passable" won't be enough--especially as they progress through their training and face Threadfall. Additionally, Bionden will find less time to dote on others, as this green will eat up a lot of her time. Being lazy and a gossip means that trouble will certainly seek Riojath out as she grows--and it will be up to Bionden to ensure her bonded is getting the love, care, and attention she needs. Ultimately, these two were meant to be from the start, and should make a very welcoming, and loving pair of wingmates.
