She wasn't sure what she should say - she gave a few polite smiles, but she was otherwise silent. Her eldest sister was so much more charismatic. Plus, in this case, Liuxing shared an occupation with the Regent.
"Hopefully everyone is pleasant for you." Laleh gave another small smile, dipping her head after hearing that Hodari would be leaving. She was more than alright that the conversation was cut short - not that the female disliked Hodari, but she really just always felt so out of place around anyone other than family.

"Yes, an intimidating bunch, if only by reputation." Liuxing nodded, shifting her focus to the strangers not too far off. At least they came on supposedly good terms.
"Well, I do hope things settle down in a positive manner soon. You're keeping things afloat quite well, though, I'd say." She grinned, returning to the Regent. It must be such a stressful time, Liuxing wanted to make sure that she heard at least some positive encouragement today. She seemed to be handling things very nicely, too; though, being the previous ruler's daughter, she knew it was an easy improvement. "Enjoy your rounds, as much as you're able." Liuxing dipped her head, stepping to the side for her and her companion to pass by.

Mmeremeto was watching curiously for Ud's reaction to his mother being a priestess. Just as the Firekin had been warned that the Mwezi'Johari were devout lions, he was among the Mwezi to know that the Firekin were secular after having disowned their guardian deity. When asked about how important the rank of Priestess was, he hesitated in explaining the details. Midwife was the simpler name for what his mother did, but birth was a big deal around here.. bigger than most, he guessed, because it wasn't just about new pride members being born but new cubs to be introduced to the Great Lion.
"The Priests are very important," he said, deciding to focus on the generic rank, "Our pride is ruled by the Queen- well, Regent right now- but the Shaman is her equal. She just has less direct control over the pride because her job is not to lead the pride but to keep us connected to the Great Lion. The Priests help her do that."
That was.. simple enough, right?
Titaia looked to Raia, shaking her head. Not because it wasn't a reasonable question, but because part of her had wondered just how far they would go if the situation became serious. That the pride survived in the desert generation after generation was astounding, she didn't know if they had ever truly suffered any losses due to drought.
"Our Water-seekers tend to stay as close to home as possible," she said, "I've never seen a situation so desperate that we would leave our desert, and I'm getting old." She would certainly seem ancient to some younger cubs, she wasn't out of her prime but there were enough generations below her that she couldn't help but feel it on occasion. If she'd had cubs sooner, she could be a great-grandmother by now, at least.

Mmeremeto found a brief lull in his conversation with the Firekin and was quickly distracted by some bustling in the background. It looked like the group that had headed towards the mountains was finally on their way back to where the rest of them were waiting. Mmeremeto didn't hesitate but nodded to Ud, murmuring 'excuse me' and seeking a better view.
Moyo had eventually wandered away from Mircea to try to keep tabs on the conversations going on around her. The longer she wandered, the more she picked up, the more she realized she really ought to think about heading home again. She had learned a great deal out here and she knew Shangyue was going to stay.. the only question that remained was if Buyue would be coming home with her.
It was easily put from her mind as she worked quietly in the background, but she would not forget. It was time to go home, Maji would be missing her, unless his network of spies was greater than it seemed to be.
Titaia smiled when Esme joined their conversation, though she could hear something going on the background to suggest the time for chit-chat was coming to a close. She chuckled at the introduction and Esme's remark that she didn't look old.
"Thank you," she said.
She was doing well being social but she was finding herself distracted more and more, so she decided it was time to take her leave of the little group. So she offered a smile and nod to those who remained with her.
"And thank you for chatting with me, it was nice to meet you all," she said, "I should go."
So Titaia went off to find out what was going to happen next.
The Firekin and Mwezi'Johari who had gone up to the mountains were indeed on their way back into the pride, Yamka and Muna were clearly visible near the front of the crowd even in the dim light and distance. There was a murmur of success when they reached the crowd, but whatever was to be done about this tentative alliance and the proximity to the Nergui was not to be decided today.
The Firekin would rest in the Mwezi'Johari a few days more before finally making their way back to the desert. Then the council could decide what the next step would be.
