Farellen was glad they weren't figh....spoke too soon, as the green swiped for the gold again, and again, was held. This was going to be one furious hatchling... he wondered who she might try and take it out on next, since she clearly couldn't lash out at the gold now her twin had joined her.

~~~~~~~~~~
Helane bit her knuckles as she watched, worry tore at her, she wanted to do something but refused to move, refused to disobey what she'd been told.
~~~~~~~~~~

Serfie forced herself to stay in place as the Gold's twin left Daisy green and went to support her sister, who hadn't needed any assistance. Now the green had not only had to stand up for herself against being bullied by ONE gold, now she had two golds standing their ground at her. No wonder she lashed out the way she did.... and was forced to a stop once again. She could almost FEEL the anger coming off the green now, not that she could blame the poor creature. "This isn't FAIR" she muttered, rather loudly. Fingernails digging harder into palms as she fought against herself .. she would NOT let A'iel and A'ral down by interfering... she had to stay where she was, unless she Impressed and was summoned of course.

Aryale

She couldn't help but flinch on the little gold's behalf when Teth spoke up. Oh little one. It's so easy for someone to think they know what the right choice is when they're not making it. You're doing the best to do right by them all as you can.

Aryale had made a handful of sour decisions as a big sister, after all, even if the rest didn't like them.

Taibbi (HRW) she/her/hers

Taibbi stood very still for the first few eggs' hatchings, and congratulated herself on her good judgment when the green from the brown paw print egg emerged and went on a tear following her sisters' undeniably breathtaking hatching. Taibbi couldn't help being awestruck by the glittering pair, and even though other dragons were beginning to move around the sands, her attention kept being drawn back to the sparkling golds. She couldn't help it. When one of them seemed to paralyze her green sister, Taibbi started forward involuntarily, momentarily concerned that the green had been more seriously wounded in their scuffle than first appeared, but it seemed not. That was good.

She tried not to think about the color of ichor against young dragon hides, and definitely not to think about the red of candidate blood on the sands.

TETH

Teth's words at first may have been a disappointment, but seeing how the green continued to react, he pressed on. Sometimes!!! Doing the right thing is really hard, and sometimes it's also wrong!!! He sent an affectionate, emotional kiss to his daughter(s), including the green and the second twin gold. I just.......love you all so much!!! And all the candidates here are my best friends!!! I hope you will love them too???? Even if you're fighting right now.

Another wave of love, this one directed towards the candidates as well. He may have been confused and hurt and worried - Teth was still young himself, something that could be a problem - but at the very least the brown was nothing short of a bundle of devotion. All my best friends!!!!! I love you and I love my babies!!!! Even when they fight because they're the best, right???? He looked to the group, trying to decide if he even made sense. Little green bean, do you need a snooch still? Or a hug??? Maybe yours is watching and is waiting for you.

Nikal - 19, he/him

Nikal clenched his fists. Of course. Even at West, a gold had to be a gold, righteous and all knowing even from the egg. The green got to learn one of the immutable lessons of the world: that sometimes things weren’t fair, and there wasn’t a sharding thing to do about it except be furious.

He didn’t feel bad that Brown Paw Print was the victim of such circumstances: he felt bad that she had to learn that lesson so publicly. Maybe she’d be so lucky as to have a sibling fight on her behalf, given that the candidates could only stand and watch. Nikal didn’t hold fast to hope like that (or so he told himself), but at least each dragonet there was wanted. Had a future, whatever was said. Someone would be there for her, even if it was only Hers.

Allamor’s usual cheer just bothered him even more. He gave his friend a sidelong, dark look. “Aim it where it matters,” Nikal muttered. The optimism was lost on him.

Karunia - 20, she/her

“Uh, sorta?” Karunia answered Matotoka distractedly. Wait, this was his first? Huh. “They got their quirks.” Her eyes sparkled as the eggs began to crack, though her good cheer dimmed ever so slightly as the fighting began. Uh oh.

Alzarth might as well have said a storm might be on the horizon. She relaxed and fixed her headband, undaunted even as her heart went out to the sister dragonets. Far be it from her to decide who was in the right, but getting commanded that quick? She thought sympathetic things and hoped a combined effort with others might soothe the babies away from further escalation.

“Choppy waters ahead, Toto,” she said in a hushed voice. “Hope you found your sea legs.”

Stormy - 19, she/her

“Hi...” Stormy’s records-soft voice barely carried over the hubbub. Once it began, she subtly shifted to stand just that much behind Marinel and Astri. She wasn’t much of a talker when the Hatching began, more content to listen and observe.

She cooed over the first green and was awed by the twin golds, but she quickly grew anxious as tensions rose. At least there was poor Daisy coming to see them. She offered a smile and a small hello and hoped things would get balanced out soon. The i joe spilled already made her heart hurt, though she tried not to project her worries beyond herself.

Dhawsn - 29, he/him

His heart wanted to swell and then break. Dhawsn tried to send a wave of soothing thoughts towards the antagonized dragonets, but his attention caught on what Serfie said. Faranth help them, she couldn’t be the only one. He felt bad that his first thought was only that Brown Paw Print might be a keg ready to burst after that, and that the candidates should be wary.

“Hey, now,” he said to Serfie gently, brushing sleeves. “Ain’ fer us t’get heated over. They just got here, n’ a lot’s happenin’. Our job’s t’make sure we don’ add to it while they figure things out.”

Serfie turned to Dhawsn "i know... i want to help her but i know i can't... it's just not fair, that gold is a BULLY, now the green is being ganged up on, two against one. it's just not right!" she said to him, trying to keep emotion from her voice, she felt so conflicted, wanting to help, knowing she wasn't allowed to.... She sighed, defeated, knowing she couldn't do anything.

FISHER

Fisher nodded her head, understanding. Doing the right thing, follow the rules of order, was pretty good no matter who you were or your age. It seemed like the dad didn't appreciate it, or a few people were empathizing with the clearly waiting to go off green, and Fisher shook her head to that. Better to focus on the green that was sneaking through them, or the green/blue combo who were somewhat moving, or even the cute little blue who'd popped out and pranced forward.

Lots of things to do until she had to see if someone was going to get roughed up.

Kainna / Female / Western
As she had a dozen times before, Kainna felt that familiar desire to hurry to the Hatching as fast as possible by going in her nightgown and bare feet. It was a foolish thought and quickly discarded, for she knew well just how hot the sands were. She arrived along with the rest of the Candidates, naturally joining up with Vitryx and Vasa, and was pleased to see that several of the hatchlings were already lively and ready to meet the world!

A green hatched, then more, and quickly, things reached a climax: Two pairs of twins hatched, and one pair was twin golds! It was something that should have been breathtakingly joyful to witness, and it was for a short time, until the green clashed with one of the two infant queens. It was hard to know exactly what was going on and why, but the gold’s anxious reaction to the brown father’s intervention made the girl’s stomach sink. She’d seen candidates cause similar reactions before, and had some very strong opinions about what they’d said or done to get such a response. She turned and punched Vasa’s arm, wishing her own venting could somehow help the stressed dragonets.

Vasadryx / Male / Western
“Ouch.” He’d said it out of habit, rather than because it actually hurt—because it didn’t. He took Kainna by the shoulders and just… slid her aside, closer to his brother. While he kept an eye on the two babies that had been fighting, he wanted to continue to take in all of the new arrivals, and was especially pleased to see that Daisy had hatched safely and seemed to have gained a little confidence from her watchful golden sister. He sent some good wishes her way, hoping for the most loving and gentle rider to look into her rainbow eyes.

Vitryx / Male / Western
The various stresses and upsets of infant dragons was always a tough thing for Vitryx to watch. It elicited a sense of… well, a sort of helplessness. He could attempt to help, but to what end? His own death? The death of another? Of the baby itself? He’d learned long ago not to follow these thoughts to the end of their trails, of course, instead focusing on following his training. His thoughts toward the babies were all of quiet support, trusting them to do exactly what their hearts and instincts told them to do as they looked for their riders.

Lesta / Female / HR
It all felt a little surreal, stepping onto Western’s sands as eggs were actually beginning to crack. This was it. There was no going back. If she Impressed… there was literally no going back. She had a moment of rising concern that might have become panic if she’d left it alone, but she stuffed it down into a locked and chained mental box, as if stuffing a wherry for a celebratory meal.

She couldn’t help the way her eyes lit at the sight of all the lovely hides that broke free from their shells. Even the fighting didn’t bother her very much. It was only temporary, and soon everything would be okay, and in most cases completely forgotten once Impression was made. If only her own problems could be erased so easily!

Jacquol—She/Hers
The green and the gold were just going at it, and it was a sight to be seen. Jackie'd seen more than her share of combat, for her age—growing up on the high seas and perpetrating petty theft tended to lead to that sort of thing—but that didn't change that it got her hair all on end, and left her feeling a bit like a wild thing, needing to be ready to bolt should it roll in her direction like so much thunder.

At least the gold seemed to triumph, standing over her older green sibling in victory. The other gold was already heading for the candidates, unbothered, but that one seemed determined to establish herself as top canine... even though they were in Western of all places. Why, that little green she was perched over might be weyrwoman some day! Still, the dust was settling... maybe now they could move on? Come on then, little green! We're all still rooting for you! She'd be someone's perfect dragon, color aside—Jackie knew she wouldn't mind having a green like that.

The Daisy green was alright too, a bit soft and timid, but seemed sweet. The Gay Flag twins had almost slipped her mind, but she eyed the blue as it shifted closer, just in case.

Meztli—They/Them/He/Him
Hey there little friends! Oh, look! A few of the babies were heading towards the candidates! Meztli perched up on their tiptoes to see past some of the others, and then gave up and nudged forwards just a bit. Not enough to get in the way or to block any of the candidates' paths, but closer because they wanted to see. Green, blue, gold... all just cute as can be, even if some seemed to be... squabbling still.

Tonori (HRW) he/him/his

There were suddenly many dragons forTonori to keep track of, but he was pretty sure he did not have to worry about Impressing either of the golds, and so while he was briefly surprised by the display of power and authority put on, he was not overawed by the pair in general. They would, he hoped, find their bonds, and he was almost certain he would not be one of them. He hoped they would not be offended that he had more or less dismissed them from his thoughts, but unless one or the other went on a rampage, he saw no reason to waste their time peppering them with "choose me!" thoughts.

Instead, he observed the newly hatched chromatic dragonets.

Bukichi

"She's got the right to be," He murmured back, his brows knitting with concern as the fight began to escalate between the green and gold sisters. Again and again the green was held down, commanded so, and it appeared the big brown dragon had now distressed the young queen. The other dragons were beginning to move--and Bukichi happened to twist his head, just to see Matotoka staring at him pointedly.

Rage threatened to throttle him, his hands balling up into tight fists. He would lord over it, wouldn't he? Stronger, better, able to best him in everything no matter how hard he struggled. Bukichi tore his gaze away, swallowing thickly. It didn't matter. The dragons did, and they would find their riders before going on to become the defenders of Pern.

Phryana

Such dramatics--and from the sounds and murmurs of the Candidates, they were becoming distressed over the fighting going on between the dragonets. She gave a start as her hand was taken, not hesitating to offer a warm, gentle squeeze. "They'll sort it out." Phryana murmured, watching carefully in case they needed to move. The other gold was escorting her shy sister--and the words of the brown dragon rang out, his disapproval clear.

The reaction of the little queen was enough to make her frown, her heart giving a twinge of sympathy. An angry green, a distressed gold... "It will be alright." She said quietly. "Once they find Theirs... things will turn out fine."

Though she wasn't quite sure Teth was helping, try as he might.

Lauthisen

Hanging near the back, Lauthisen kept a quiet eye on the events--and felt a strange tightness in his chest at the sight of the red-eyed green. Bizarre. Still, he kept quiet and stayed where he was, watching. He had no idea what had really started the fight, but he had zero interest in getting involved with it.

--

Aerden

The man had been moving quietly as the dragonets squabbled, his thoughts calm and steady even as he watched the other hatchlings tentatively beginning to move, searching for their bonded. He didn't hesitate to settle near Nikal and Allamor, giving a friendly nod to the latter. He recognized him, of course.

"The less ichor and blood shed, the better," He agreed, watching the events. With luck, the sisters wouldn't need to fight any longer... Silently, he sent a wordless wave of calm and sympathy to the father of the clutch.

As the queens seemingly consoled one another, the rest of the clutch- those that had begun to move- twitched again. The Ace Flag egg rolled... and stopped. Rolled, and stopped.

There was a long, pregnant pause.

Finally, it split open. From the broken shell, a brown and a bronze emerged, each giving a stretch. The brown stayed down a moment longer, before deciding the egg goop was a little much. For his brother had already began to gaze at the Candidates. Granted, he hadn't gone far, but he was looking, at least.

VEIKEL

From where he waited, rolling and unrolling bandages to help soothe his nerves, Veikel was taken aback by the third set of twins to hit the sands. This was an interesting metallic/chromatic mix and he couldn't stop the audible 'oooo' that escaped his lips. He wasn't sure he'd heard of a clutch in recent times producing so many twins, but hey - he wasn't a historian. This was simply something amazing, and, if he was honest, more dragons meant more chances for Nikal.

He really, really hoped Nikal would Impress a dragon. His mom and sister would like that too, really. Dad too, probably.

FISHER

How many babies were in each of these eggs? Fisher was pretty stunned, and she tried to recall the thoughts she'd had during the touching. Maybe the egg had been bored since it had itself to talk to? Interesting.
PostPosted: Fri Jun 28, 2019 2:54 pm
Matotoka

There were... a lot of little dragons coming out of all these eggs. "I don't think we usually fit that many in an egg either?" They had three sets of twins so far? There were going to be a lot of candidates leaving with a friend, it seemed.

"I have to hope my land legs are going to work well enough for this adventure," Matotoka added in good jest, sort of wishing he'd brought his own headwrap so they could at least look festive.

-----

Papys

"Awww," Papys nearly sunk into a crouch as he watched the golden sisters running to comfort each other. "More of your family is comin' out tho little lady - you won't be alone for long. You're a good'n," he beamed towards Daisy Green, content in the comfort she'd offered her sister, but also...

There were a lot of baby dragons now! Huh!

-----

Aryale

Aryale shouldered Bukichi when she saw his hands, looking up at him with a slight frown then leaning her weight into his side for a moment. Whatever it meant, she knew he'd understand.

"I've never seen so many twins before. I haven't stood very long, but...." she was certain Bukichi had noticed that too. "Anybody you like hatched yet?" He'd touched a few eggs she hadn't, after all.

So many twins in this hatching! What a handsome pair these were too. As he shifted from foot to foot on the hot sands, Vesden's attention remained divided between the red eyed green and the hesitant blue. There was no use trying to attract a hatchling to him, they'd have some much less shallow way of choosing theirs, he doubted any amount of coaxing would make them choose someone they wouldn't have chosen regardless so he stood still as instructed and watched.
