A mental nudge from A'dras had Gareth slipping between. The bronze pair slipped back out near their wingmate with Gareth belching flame destroying the clump of thread even as Gareth complained mentally of the pain of his tongue.

Then, the pain was forgotten as Gareth let out a deep keen. A'dras found himself stalled, fighting back tears as the feelings that overwhelmed him. He had to push through, they lost a wingmate and they could lose more as the night went on. Afterwards they would focus on what they lost.

Roana stretched herself down and close to Ulendoth's neck as they battled against the wind but her beloved partner was young, muscular and sturdy and though she didn't have the bulk of a brown of a bronze she held her ground. After the first adrenaline blast of being up in thread they were starting to find their footing and despite a few ash burns had come out of it well.

If only they had not lost a rider...Roana glanced again at the space in the air the brown had vanished from and Ulendoth let out another soft keen.

There was a yawning, gaping void where Lireloth had once been. It took a moment for Cyliodath to process. His disbelieving eyes watched the skies where he expected the brown to blink back from beyond between to his place in the Wing. There was nothing, nothing in the place of what had been a dragon Cyliodath was proud to be in a wing with. Lireloth, capable and dependable, knowing the brown had the Tresspasser’s back. Cyliodath’s eyes paled with horror, a ghastly keen shaking from his chest. It followed him like a haunting whistle as he streaked flame through the sky.

Goodbye Lierloth...may you find your way home again, someday once more. Your wing will watch the Weyr. He couldn’t feel Lierloth to send him these quiet words, the frighteningly empty space the brown had once occupied rippled around his thoughts.

Though he had taken a few hits, Caironairth was feeling okay. Decent, he could surmise. The little stings here or there were nothing in the grand scheme of what threadfall could do.

But as Caironairth wheeled about, turning to sear down another clump, it felt as though the wind beneath his sails dropped out. There was a hole missing, and as he hears the shout, the squeal of pain -- and the hole where there had formally been a fellow wingmate. He doesn’t have to check much to feel the hole that was formerly filled by Lireloth and His, and the deep, wailing keen escapes from him; an ache of another loss heavy -- and so much more fall to go.

For a moment they could both just breath, as much as one could with ash and smoke choking around them. There was a moment without thread, without immediate press of danger. J'er took a moment to wipe his face, and check on their supply of stone. Looking good.

The heavy pain of loss hung onto his mind, though he had to keep flying on, keep searing to protect those who could not. Caironairth’s wings snapped heavily, feeling the linger of guilt on his hearts to protect one who was already gone -- and would never return again.

Though grief weighed heavily, there was still a fight to be had. As Caironairth chewed down on his firestone, his tongue was bitten down on hard. The brown startled in pain, whipping his head back as if stung -- only by his own folly.

Cyliodath’s eyes whirred red, his tongue aching. Stupid, sharding jagged piece of firestone cutting his mouth. He angrily seethed, pressing it to the roof of his mouth as if he could will the injury way.
