Perhaps it had been the catch, but the restlessness became insipid: Mictecath was leaning out of formation, and before Nyara noticed, right into a clump of Thread. She roared in pain and panic, beating furiously to return to her place. Nya clenched her teeth and soothed her dragon's mind. The pain didn't last long.

Nyara was perhaps a little too distracted… it was only Mictecath’s warning trumpet that startled her from her growing daydream, and she glanced upwards as the gold ducked down, giving her the space she needed to burn the piece of Thread heading their way.

Tendrils twisted around her, ensnaring arms and legs, slopping down onto Mictecath’s brilliant golden hide and sides… As one the pair screamed, then Betweened. Three breaths. Three moments in which to recover. Nyara was clawing at the Thread on her shoulder as they reemerged, blinking away tears of pain that were fogging up her goggles. She then moved her hands to Mic’s sides, frantic movements brushing away what remained of the deadly spore.
