Not only did they have to contend with dangerous strands of thread all around. The wind liked to play merry hell up here too. The sturdy brown was tossed this way and that. In fighting back, pain shot through his wing. Belengath let out a moan but shouldered on through the pain for now.

Hour 3; Round 5 (day 5) Rolls
1. 5- The air is thick with Thread. It's at its heaviest up here, and you are literally surrounded by silver tendrils. You roar defiance before spitting forth a great flame, scorching the deadly threads before you with ease. Flame Length +1
2. 3- As you fight against a strong gust of wind, you feel something pull! Uh-oh. There's a pain in your wing muscle that hadn't been there before. This isn't good, especially this high up! Still, your dragon fights on. If this is the third time you roll this and you haven't returned to the Weyr for attention your wings cramp up, and you find yourself going down! The wind is just too much, and the pain too great. You pushed yourself too hard, and now you're really in trouble! Post this!

Star Flame Wingleader Roll

Quote:
79-94 You know your Wing, and are confident in their abilities. Part of being Wingleader or Wingsecond is caring for those you fight with! Every dragon has his or her place, as well as their strengths and weaknesses. Thankfully, you notice when someone is struggling! You call out, encouraging them to fight through the pain, the hurt, the exhaustion, and assuring them of their greatness. Quote a Wingmate and nullify any negative Status Effect immediately. If no negative status effects are in play, you may nullify a Wingmates damage instead!

It was time to refuel. Belengath turned his head back for his rider to toss in more firestone. As he crunched down on the hard stone, his soft squishy tongue got in the way. The brown let out a yelp of pain. Ouch! Shaftit, be careful what you chew!

The poor brown could only focus on his throbbing tongue. The wind kicked up forcing him to fight to keep formation in time to his tongue. It hurt!

All too soon he was running low again. Belengath didn't learn from the first time. He chomped hard on his already sore tongue.

Tension twisted C'zon's insides. His heart hammering so loudly it was like a drum solo in his ears. He found it overall unpleasant. It took a lot to rile the young man but even the languid nature of the green rider was unsettled by matters of life and death.
He sighed. Best to get things over with quickly.

In such times he had to agree with Sonorienth. It was nice to have training and protocol to fall back on it meant he didn't have to think.
As they rose with the second wave to join their wing Sonorienth held formation easily despite the harsh wind. An advantage of being a stockier dragon for her colour.

There. Our first thread

C'zon directed his partner to a clump of the silvery menace. Sonorienth ruffled her wings, drew back her breath and exhaled flame....that fell pitifully short of their target.

Quote:
You try to flame down some Thread, but your flame comes up short. Whoops! Hopefully your Wingleader didn't see that. Nothing to be done about it now except eat some more firestone, and try to catch the next clump!

Felisath was anxious but doing her best to bury her feelings. She was eager to fight but worried about the outcome. Hadn't sweet Negoncath already fallen from the skies? Hadn't there been dragons coming in damaged beyond repair almost right from the start? Still, the little green was trying to keep a brave face. She could take comfort in the fact that Kleoth was still alive, and fighting hard down below; and beloved Yaguareth was in no danger, after her previous injury. It was her job to defeat the enemy, but that didn't mean she wasn't worried about how they might fare.

We'll be all right. And if not, there are healers to tend us, and Queen's to catch us! Kiri tried to assure her. She could not promise they wouldn't get hurt--but she felt confident that there were healers enough that they would make it out no matter the injuries. And if they did not--well, she would not share such thoughts with her green.

Every patch they flamed down was one less patch to threaten their wingmates, and the innocent people below.

When the signal was given, both rider and dragon disappeared from over the Bowl....

And appeared right in the middle of a wind gust.

Felisath gave a creel of surprise as she was immediately thrown around. Kiri tried to figure out where they were meant to be placed, but the sheer amount of Thread being kicked around, along Felisath struggling not to be blown around was chaotic.

Unfortunately, as the green tried to avoid being thrown back, the wind threw a tangle of Thread against the green's wing. The pain seared through their link, but Kiri was prepared. WIth new coordinates in mind, the two blinked Between, turning the tangle to harmless ash.

Luckily, when they reappeared, the gust had passed. "What a way to begin it, huh?" Kiri spoke to Hers, leaning down to thump her green along her neck. The score hurt, but both knew they were okay to carry on.

Astriana felt horrible still for one of their wingmates being hurt by them overshooting. She knew they had work to do, so tried to focus on that, instead of the mental echo of the cries of pain. She helped Moratath keep an eye out for any more Thread and burn it to ash.

We won't let that happen again, Mine,Moratath thought in a matter of fact way. He knew they could do this, they would learn from the mistake and correct.

As the fight continued, Kiri was grateful for Felisath's smaller size. The delicate green could more easily avoid some of the larger patches, and hastily avoid some of the Thread thrown at her by the wind. In fact, the little green was able to spot a wingmate in trouble, and with great determination and valor, was quick to flame down the patch.

That a girl! Kiri sent Hers nothing but pride and love.

As Felisath focused on flaming down one patch, another threatened them from the side. "Our left!" Kiri warned, but thankfully, Felisath was on it. Making quick work of her agility, she barrel-rolled to the side--reminding Kiri just how grateful she was to have multiple pieces of leather securing her to Felisath! While the green wasn't able to catch the patch, they were, at least, out of immediate danger.

When they were in the zone, the little green pair made excellent work of the Thread that fell around them. The green was able to blast down much of what came her way, and with great effect. Unfortunately, the wind was still a problem--and in one case, the newly-created-ash was blown right back into the green's face.

With a lurch and a hiss, the dragon shook her head to clear her maw of the painful burn. Thankfully, the sting would pass--and Felisath would make no complaints about it. Ash burn's were common, after all, and she was fine to fight.

Sonorienth was appalled by her failure to judge her flame accurately.
Did anyone see that? We are letting the whole wing down with flame like that. I will have to do more drills. Before she could be come frantic C'zon cut her off with a gentle laugh which never failed to stifle her hysterics.
Relax my love. We are just finding our stride. Someone else will get that and there will be plenty more thread.
But in that moment...there really wasn't. For a blissful moment they found themselves in a clear patch of airspace.

Quote:
Nothing to flame quite yet, which is almost a miracle in this sort of Threadfall. Still, you're able to relax a moment, look around, and take note of your airspace. All's well... for now.

As the pair constantly scanned the sky for thread so did Sonorienth also keep careful watch on the rest of the wing. Falling out of strict formation or missing any signal from a wing second or wing leader would be a terrible failure for the dutiful green.

That was why she noted her straying wingmate. Calling out her warning just in time. A warning that was a half barker order to get back in formation.
But it worked out in the end.

Quote:
As you fly, you find that you're getting into a heavier patch of Thread ahead. You've got a bad feeling about this.... You warn one of your wingmates to let a patch go! Thankfully, they listen, and sure enough, the wind changes! It would have blown the pair right into the patch. As it stands, the wind blows the Thread back, and your wingmate are able to flame it down without injury. [+2 Instinct]
