The firestone incident didn't seem to shake them too much. The pair turned on a wing and caught a patch of thread with Alumet's flamethrower, Zenobiath letting out a bugle of victory.

Another bit of thread! Shooting her flamethrower at it, she honestly hadn't expected ash to blow back on them, a few specks burning both of their cheeks. Ow. Well, that was unpleasant.

There was a patch of thread that was flying right towards them. They managed to flick Between, coming out on the other side in just enough time to flame it out from the sky. Perfect!

Lilah, always careful to be ready when the time came for them to go up during the second wave, had of course fed Bayeth a bit of firestone before they departed - and so it was that before they were even in the air, the blue got things off to a wonderful start by biting his own tongue. She had simply heaved a sigh as he whined and creeled about it, and pattes his neck in understanding comfort as they went up.

She lressed reassuring thoughts to Monath and Iptoneth—she had not known that the bronze’s rider was sibling to her daughter’s rider! She thought of the whole weyr as family in a way, but these really were, and wasn’t that just lovel—!
Her train of thought was derailed as a burning sliver dropped from above onto her neck, making the gold roar and twist her neck to shake it off. Ow!!

They soon had greater concerns than Bayeth's bitten tongue, when an unexpected thermal threw them off course, and right into thread! The blue creeled in pained surprise and blinked away to rid his wing of the tangle of silver.

Though he still creeled with unhappiness, Bayeth's own troubles weren't enough to distract him from doing his duty, and when Lilah caught sight of a wingmate in trouble, he swooped in to flame the strands that threatened them.

Someone above flagged for a bag of stone, and of course Peresa had to be the one to fetch it. Drudge work... The green seethed, but did not ignore the command to rise up. The wind was strong, pushing her this way and that, but she was bulky for a green, and determined to get this task that was already beneath her to do, done. Peresa launched the bag with ease, putting it right into the rider’s hands. He offered her a brief smile of thanks, but she was already turned away, sinking back down with Shoggoth after the first bit of thread that caught their eye.

Something just didn't feel right (aside from basically everything about this), and Lilah glanced up to catch sight of a drifting piece of Thread. Bayeth rushed between to keep them from being hit.

The wind suddenly gusted, catching Galxath unawares and unready. The star-flecked blue tumbled, flapping to regain position. “You got this babyblue, come on!” E’dan egged him on, and the blue let out a trumpeting cry as he did indeed retake his spot. “I’m tellin’ you baby, you’re good at this! Just gotta believe, baby!”
It was only grudgingly that Krahsujunth let his rider coax him down from the height of combat. Their hours were done. The blue had taken more hits than he normally did, had more fumbles. It was infuriating, and the blue greatly desired to fly longer, to regain time and to flame back for the hits he'd taken. Well I'm tired, Krah...I know you could take on the Red Star alone, if you wanted, but...how about, just for me, you land? Or because you know that Fianth would worry otherwise. they both were rusty after their hiatus, and no one could just, just leap right in and be 100% again. His ego was slightly bruised...but he'd fought well, hadn't he?
He felt the touch of Orodreth as the younger blue took wing, and that revived his spirits somewhat. It made him want to wheel around, to show that blue first hand how fun threadfall could be, the blood roaring in your ears, the sight of your enemy, broken and burning to dust before you...But his V'rind had hatchlings to mind. And his wings were sore. The numerous burns and scores he'd taken stung, but that was nothing. He'd allow Orodreth to 'have his leftovers', yes. The idea was to leave none...but perhaps you can use the target practice. There was a faint rumble of laughter to his tone. Orodreth was a fine enough fighter, and not at all a bad...friend? Friend. Funny how lately Krahsujunth could count more and more among that number. color=steelblue]Nessuth...tell Yours that my V'rind is home and safe. She says if he does not return, or returns with no new scars, she may make him sleep on the floor. Though how she would do that if you do not return is beyond me. He still had no real affection for the brown...but his rider had chosen the brown's as mate, and that made her happy. So he would tolerate the tiny brown.
As he dropped between and reappeared over the crowded weyrbowl, he sent out one more mental touch. Fianth, golden sunlight of my hearts...be safe. My V'rind and I return home, for now...but say the word, and I will return, we will return to aid you. the healers would want to look him over...but they would have to come to him to do it. The blue spent no time in the bowl, springing first to his ledge to deposit V'rind (and share a private, drawn out embrace, her arms wrapped tightly around his burn-flecked snout as she scolded him with all the anger and affection in her heart) before winging away, to curl anxiously upon his love's ledge, eyes on the sky and hearts in his throat.

The Queen's Wing is an important position, but it sure can be boring... Part of you wishes you could be higher up, where all the action is. Part of you is grateful you're safer down here. V'mel and Aviroth took the brief respite of the Gold Wing to asses their weyrlings' performances. There were a few minor issues to be seen to, but nothing that really stood out. C'ryn's strap problem was one that should most likely be addressed to the entire class (several of them had had wild growth spurts, others, already tall, were filling out more with the hard muscle of dragonriders) and he'd instructed his assistants as much about it.
They would all of them be graduating soon...barring any late-game trouble. He glanced up, feeling Aviroth's gaze go with him, to the wings overhead. Already he had begun to think about which wings he would recommend each to...
