For the briefest of moments everything seemed to be fine in the sky, she'd run out of flame but Alythrae was working on throwing up a chunk of stone to her dragon when the wind was ripped out of both of them. Lireloth hadn't returned from Between, he and His were simply gone as many that the pair had lost in their wing, in the Weyr, before, it was a hole in the heart of every dragon and rider around. The distraction had her cracking down on the stone incorrectly, her tongue sliding between her teeth so that Tarmath snarled in pain. That would serve to distract in the future certainly.

The pain of his tongue is distracting, though Caironairth was doing his best to run it over top of his mouth between flaming down clumps of thread to soothe the ache. But it wasn’t too late to notice the danger his love was in -- just as he watched helplessly as Cyliodath jumped from between into a clump of thread. Cyliodath!

The throbbing in her mouth and in her hearts was making it harder and harder to focus, but the green shook herself and was able to flame down the thread in her vicinity. It was her job. It was her life. If her rider was having a silent cry on her back, tears fogging her goggles, Tarmath just was all the more vigilent for it.

Pulling from between they were surrounded. Shard it all. J'er's mouth set in a thin, focused line. They could between.. could. He shook his head, Cyliodath murmuring in agreement. It would hurt, but to live was to have pain. There was no way they would come back from a panicked trip between while Cyliodath's mouth filled with blood. The split moment decision was a wise one, chalked up to taking their wing drills quite seriously.
The blue tucked his wings, protecting their soft flesh as best he could as he passed through the sheet of thread. The thread scored his flanks, drawing a miserable snarl from them both. It was deep, painful, but Cyliodath was fine for the moment. Only after they passed through the thread, and had a moment to clear their head to Between, did they use the chill to chase away any lingering spores.
Carionairth's yell wasn't lost on Cyliodath's ear's. I fight for another day, don't even start worrying about me yet. Focus!

With her wings buffeting at the winds, Tarmath was able to catch the large clump of thread that fell just before her, scorching it from the sky as the pain in her tongue was starting to ease at last.

The keening happened all at once, and the sound made his hair stand on end--I'ar's breath caught in his throat at the realization, and his mind raced with the possibilities. Who was it? What-- One of ours. Rouleth's mindvoice was quiet, and I'ar hated to hear his Brown brought low. Thella and Lireloth. I think...we might have seen that. Faranth. Was that the screaming...? Yeah.

A roar erupted from Tarmath so violently that Alythrae jerked a little and wiped a thumb over her fogged goggle. Narrowly, really narrowly, the roar had helped another wingmate avoid being caught by a clump of thread. Given that might have risked them being mortally wounded the woman heaved a sigh, but relaxation was a long way off.

Though loss always affected Alythrae just a bit harder than it did her beloved dragon, who always managed to keep her head in the game, she was slowly rolling into her normal routine in the air once more. Fighting against the winds in their formation was always a struggle but Tarmath's giant size certainly helped to keep them level.

They felt it the moment it happened. The moment Thella and Lireloth were gone forever. It hit them like a blow to the heart that made everything vibrate inside them for a moment, and then slowly fade away, echoes of the space that had been occupied a moment before. Rather than flame a clump of Thread coming toward them, Kaloth lifted his head to keen and the clump skidded past the brown's neck to slap wetly against Z'rai's knee and the dragon's shoulder, digging through leather and flesh fast.
"Go!" Z'rai shouted, though high-pitched word was echoed in his mind as well, and the pair winked out of sight. They, though, did come back, and did so with the fierceness a lost companion driving them on.

Somebody else was in trouble, though--Rouleth roared his warning mere moments before he began flaming, sending a spray of fire toward one of the clumps with no hesitation. Their wingmate disappeared between, but reappeared shortly a little ways off, none the worse for wear.

You notice one of your wingriders is in need! Three clumps of thread are heading straight for them, while they are flaming down another impressive sheet. Ah, but your dragon is clever, and quick, and manages to flame all three down with short spits of fire. If a green, or blue rider, the thread turns to harmless ash, and both of you can continue on your way. [+3 Target Accuracy] If a brown, or bronze, you can't quite get over there in time. You call out to warn them, and manage to at least catch one clump while your wingmates blink Between. [+1 Target Accuracy]
It was important to watch. It was important to watch out for one another, especially among the Trespassers. Some of them had certainly been closer to Thella than Z'rai had been. Those riders would be more at risk, They'd be distracted. They'd be in danger.
Like they were now. The rider looked distracted, not paying close enough attention, and Kaloth had spotted the incoming Thread.
"Hey!"
Working together, they managed to get the pair out of the way of what could have become another tragedy, and they'd burned up some of the Thread left behind.
It was important to watch.

I'ar barely had time to react before a large cluster of thread came streaking down in front of them, a wretched tangle that must have been too much of a problem for somebody up higher--Rouleth doesn't think before he starts flaming, catching it in a burst of light and heat before it gets any further. This was what Rouleth was made for. It was hard, fighting against the wind on top of everything else, but they'd trained for this. The Brown wasn't tired yet, and didn't plan on calling it a day any time soon, either.
