Joshua nodded. "The trade routes are very important." He shook his head. "That doesn't mean they should be allowed to break the laws and fish here. The coves along here," He spread his arms in a gesture, taking in the coastline to either side of him. "Are meant to be safe havens. They can't be safe if people keep fishing." Joshua dropped his arms and muttered to himself. "I hate idiots..."

Katalina smiled up at Joshua, as she was still relaxing against the water. "See, I knew you could explain it more eloquently than I could," she said lightly.
Growing serious again, she looked back at Aoife. "I don't think you've spent too much time around people, Aoife, so you have to understand that around here, most people who believe in us do want to find us, but most people...well, suck...and aren't kind like Joshua and Joey. If you want to survive around here, you have to assume that all people are bad."

Joshua smiled sadly. "Trusting humans usually isn't a great idea. Joey and I are the exceptions, not the rule. Thankfully, this particular cove doesn't see many humans. Part of the reason I chose it."

"Oh." Was all Aoife could say. Where she was from she'd never seen boats, it only happened when she started coming south. She wasn't sure how to explain her somewhat obsessive facination with them and everything human. "I understand."

Joshua smiled, this time a real smile. "That's good. Being wary never hurt anyone. Especially those of the sea." He didn't want to try and explain to the sea fairy what could happen to her. 'Might scar her for life. Though, if she learned to stay away from humans it might be worth it.' He shook his head to clear the thoughts from it.

Joey remained silent throughout the conversation. He himself was a boat owner and was proud of it. He looked over to his own vessel, now moored at the shore with a gaping hole. He sighed and his mind flashed to the materials and calculation needed to fix it. He pushed it out of his head and looked at the three in front of him.

Aoife continued nibbling her lip. She didn't like this, keeping things so quiet and concealed. If they were out in the open...yeah at first it wouldn't be the greatest, but people would grow bored with them eventually, and it wasn't like only sea creatures should worry. "The sea is a deadly place too." Aoife said quietly. She'd travelled far to end up here she'd run into a lot of deadly situations.

"The world is deadly." Joshua corrected Aoife gently. "Beautiful, but deadly. It's just a matter of the lesser of two evils." 'Humans being the greater of the two.' He finished the thought in his mind. He shrugged and smiled. "We all have to learn to live with the dangers that surrounds us."

Aoife nodded, but she saw the sea as the worser evil.

Joey sighed. "Enough of this depressing talk. Any more questions?" He was glad to get out of the previous situation and hoped that the conversation wouldn't stray back to the previous topic. It seemed that Aoife was feeling awkward.

Joshua shook his head. "Not right now. I'm sure I'll probably think of more later." He chuckled. "It's always been like that. The more I see something, the more I want to know." He looked to Katalina. "Shall we head out?"

Aoife was glad he didn't have anymore questions. She turned to Joey with a sheepish smile. "Thanks for that." She whispered so noone else could here.

Katalina, having nearly drifted off to sleep again during the conversation, started awake. "What? Oh, yes. Sure," she replied, giving him a slightly embarrassed smile.
She looked at Aoife with weary eyes. She felt obligated to warn the other creature, but what could she do? She'd warned her, and now the fairy would just have to see for herself.
Absently, she rubbed a long thin scar along her side, just below her ribs. There was really no way to understand why humans were dangerous until you'd gotten on the wrong side of them, as she had learned to her sorrow. Multiple times. "Let's go," she told Joshua, taking her mind off her little pity party.

Joshua grinned, full of anticipation. 'Who knows who I'll meet today!' His thoughts were eager. He couldn't wait. He pulled his mask over his face and dove into the water. Joshua glanced at Katalina, wondering which direction they would be going.

Katalina sent the other two a little wave over her shoulder, then slipped back under the water and gestured to Joshua.
Looking back at him once they'd gone out a little ways, she said, "Enjoy the warm water while we've got it, because-- How cold can you get in that suit of yours?" she asked suddenly, slowing down a little. It had just occurred to her that maybe she ought to warn him about the water, after all. He could go into cold-shock, or something, while she couldn't.
