Joshua blinked at the question. It seemed a little odd to him. Still, he shrugged as he answered. "It's rated for something like -15C. Are we going somewhere cold?" He wondered what the mermaid could take him to meet in cold waters. In the back of his mind, Joshua began running through his legends, picking out the likely ones.

Joey waved goodbye to the two and looked at Aoife. "Sorry for bringing up the whole humans thing." He looked around and wondered what to do. Then, his stomach pronounced how empty it was and growled relatively loudly. A slight blush reached his face. "Uh..."

Aoife jerked back. "What was that!?" She exclaimed in surprise.

Joey blushed and smiled sheepishly. "That would be my stomach. It growled cause I am hungry, telling me that I need to eat." He paused, unsure of how to explain it further.

((OOC: Lol. I've done that.))
"I have no idea how cold that is," said Katalina after a moment. "But yes. We're going somewhere cold. Very cold. But it shouldn't be for too long." She hesitated for a brief moment, then said softly, "These next folk aren't very...very nice. Not just shy, the way the nymphs were. They're just not very nice. But you wanted to meet as many as possible, right?"
She almost sounded like she hoped he would say no, he didn't want to know that much.

((See you later.))
Joshua paused for a moment. It sounded like she didn't want him to go. His resolved wavered, before hardening. "I want to meet them." He told her determinedly. "They're still part of the sea, right? I want to know all of it. Not just the good or lovable." He nodded sharply.

Katalina nodded, but she looked a trifle...afraid, almost. "Okay," she said, and she was proud that her voice didn't shake, didn't even quaver. "Okay, then. Let's get going. I want to get there before it gets too cold."
She sped up, leaving Joshua no choice but to speed up if he didn't want to get left behind. She hoped that if she hurried, he wouldn't think to ask too many questions. Because there were a lot of things he could ask, and very few of them that she could answer.

Joshua sped up and followed Katalina. In his mind, he was left wondering. 'What's gotten into her? Maybe I should go meet them....' He felt the first tremblings of fear before pushing it away. 'No! I want to meet them!' He thought determinedly, keeping up with the mermaid.

As Katalina led Joshua through the water, she grew paler and quieter. She turned sharply to the left all of a sudden, and led him into a crack in one of the cliffs. The water within it was freezing. She glanced back at him. She was nearly paper-white and was quivering slightly. Giving him a painful, pathetic attempt at a smile, she turned back and led the way onwards.

Joshua twisted sharply in the water, following Katalina. He began to get more and more nervous as he watched her. He felt a shiver run through him and it wasn't entirely due to the water. 'Which by the way, is absolutely freezing! Maybe I should consider admitting myself to an insane asylum....' "Katalina?" He called ahead to her. "You don't have to do this if you really don't want to." 'Maybe at some point I should learn that, just maybe, I don't want to meet everything in the sea.'

Katalina turned towards him, her lips curving into a relieved smile. "Well," she began, "if you--"
"But you've come so far already," a low, sibilant voice whispered. "Surely you'll want to greet us now, cousin Katalina?" another murmured. "You and your...friend...would not leave so soon?"
The darkness of the area slowly dissipated into a low green light, something like what the nymphs had had, but far more sickly. It revealed three...creatures, two female and one male. They looked vaguely like Katalina - which wasn't surprising, as one of them had called her 'cousin' - but they had sharper teeth, wicked grins, and hungry eyes. Very, very hungry eyes.
"We are the Sirens, little human," said the smaller of the females, the one who had spoken first.

Joshua's mouth opened into a soundless 'O'. His eyes grew wide at the sight of the sirens. When he'd thought of meeting the sirens, he hadn't thought that they'd look so hungry. "Um...Hello." Joshua's voice held a slight tremor. The sirens looked deadly. 'And like they want to eat me! Maybe next time I'll listen to what Katalina says when she tells me someone isn't very nice.' The more he looked at the them, the more he could see why the mermaid had been reluctant to bring him here. Joshua edged back slightly in the water.

The male splashed down into the water, as the two females looked on. He swept towards Katalina and stopped in front of her, putting a hand under her chin and lifting her pale face upwards. "Little cousin," he said, and it would have sounded almost fond if the Siren himself hadn't looked so frightening, "why do you insist on continuing to play with the humans? I keep telling you, you would have a better life if you returned to your own people."
Katalina drew back and retorted with something in her own tongue, not wanting Joshua to overhear what she said. The male Siren lifted a brow at her and laughed before replying, also in their own language.
The smaller of the females splashed down. Swimming towards Joshua, she inspected him. "You are very small," she noted clinically. "Why has Katalina brought you here, human boy?"
The other female followed the first one. They both watched him with their shark's eyes, as though just waiting for him to make the wrong move before they ate him.
