"I know. I'm sorry." Amaya said as the waiter took the check from Adrian. "But now you get to experience all the joys of being a real parent." She said. "Still though...even if you just feel like you're only a dad in name Adrian...I hope you realize that you're still the only dad Calista's ever known. And that means a whole lot to me and her." Amaya told him in a soft voice.

"Thanks." Adrian said with a soft smile as he rested his chin on his hands. "To be honest, I've always felt like I was coming up short in comparison to Damien." he admitted as he turned his eyes away from Amaya and to some distant spot on the wall. "Every time he came up, it always sounded like if given the chance you'd rather be with him instead. I know that wouldn't happen, not now that we're together like this, but..." he closed his eyes for a moment, trying to decide on his next words. "...it's just that you always sounded like you'd just lost the love of your life, even after so long."

"Adrian..." Amaya started, reaching a hand across the table to brush his arm with her fingers. "It was never my intention to make you feel that way. I miss Damien, I do. Without him, I wouldn't have Calista. He was my best friend for three years and he kept me alive the entire time. But I mean...he raped me for that to happen. He raped me several times. I was scared of being anywhere near him after that, and he felt so guilty over it. I didn't want anyone to touch me again after that. Then I watched him die slowly. And he was in pain and scared, and there was a small part of me that wanted him to die alone, but I couldn't let myself do that to him. I still feel guilty about it. But I love you Adrian. You're the first person I've been able to open up to since I ran away from home. And there's no way I'd give up what we have now to get Damien back over you. I just think about the guilt and the pain I felt down there when I am reminded of him. But I love you..." She murmured.

"Amaya...I had no idea..." Adrian said softly. He didn't realize Damien's memory was covered in scars like that. He gave her hand a small squeeze when the check came back. Putting his credit card away he stood up and went around to help Amaya with her coat with a gentleman. "I guess my initial thought of never bringing him up again was right. Enough about that though, we came to celebrate things and we can't have you being depressed again while you're on tv."

Amaya just nodded silently in response, pulling on her coat with Adrian's help. "Yeah, late night shows certainly don't thrive on depressing things. I have no idea how they're going to talk to me about my book when it's pretty much one of the most depressing things you'll ever read besides a book about the holocaust." She said with a shrug.

"And considering how many documentaries and books there are on that slice of history, it's only a matter of time before everyone else follows your lead to tell their own story from the arena and life as a mutate." Adrian said shoving his hands in his pockets to protect them from the cold once they left the restaurant.

"Probably. But I was the first to break the big story to the public and write a book about it. So I'll still be the most famous in that slice of history." Amaya said with a small grin, hooking her arm in his as they walked.

"Probably." Amaya said as she grinned. "We could probably be turning into the next Brad and Angelina of the mutate community." She laughed, laying her head on his shoulder at they walked.

"I just scare people off with their own shadows. Pretty fun for me." She said with a small grin. An assistant met them at the door, smiling to the two as she walked up.
"Hello, so nice to have you two on our show tonight. Mr. Dupree, if you follow Lindsey over there, she'll take you to your seat. We've reserved a front row seat for you for the show tonight. And Ms. Kurokawa, if you follow me I'll take you back to the green room." She told the two with a bright smile.
Amaya nodded, turning to Adrian to kiss him for a quick moment. "Have fun watching the show. I'll see you later." She told him before she followed after the assistant.
