lilraine I've thought and thought about the most appropriate label for me. I have both atheistic and pagan leanings. the 2 seem mutually exclusive when looking at it on the surface, but they dont have to be. it all depends on what your concept of god is. Actually, you're right in that they aren't mutually exclusive. Not at all! Many people have the misconception that all atheists are naturalists who believe that no gods exist, no supernatural stuff-- nothing. But that's not true. All it takes to be an atheist (like myself) is to NOT believe that gods DO exist. That INCLUDES naturalists who believe in no supernatural stuff and no gods, but it also includes spiritualists who lack an actual god-belief (including many pagans), and it includes people who lack a belief in god but don't believe there isn't one, either. You're fine. smile

I feel I recognize the 'gods' for what they are. human-like representations of natural forces. the names, attributes, and characteristics of the gods are the clothing man puts on it to try to understand it better.

Well, I think that god obviously needed materials to make everything with. Science is just a study of how things work, why things work, and what they are made up of. They are all processes god made up to have the world run. Science identifies them. so, i think science and religion can coexist.
anyway, my ultimate belief is what socrates said: "the only true knowledge is knowing that you KNOW nothing". this basically says that for everything science studies and believe is true (laws of nature, etc) or religions state, either can still be dead wrong. They do not ever Know 100% that their theory is true. It just may have seemed to work thus far as a possible answer.
My belief is that man will never know all the secrets of the universe.

i'm a christian aswell and i believe that everything was created by god and over millions of years the develop adaptations to servive but that's as far as i will take it!!! i don't believe we come from apes or any other form of life i believe we were created as we are now and haven't made any dramatic changes....if we did evolve from apes then why are there still apes to this day??? the charles darvin theory has very little evidence supporting it.
yes there is no way to prove God's existance but there is no other hypothesis that has survived so long...and i highly doubt that the large population that believes in a higher being are complete idiots.

why is it so hard for some people to accept the idea that we evolved from a lower being? how vain that is. the is far more support for the theory of evolution than the idea that we were created this way and are unchanging. evolution makes perfect sense to me, and proves to me that no matter what we may think of ourselves as a species, that we are NOT above nature, but an integral part of it. we've developed from it. I dont see the idea that we evolved from a species of ape as an insult. we are, strictly speaking.. animals ourselves.

I dont see the idea that we evolved from a species of ape as an insult. we are, strictly speaking.. animals ourselves. how about this evolution is said to take place on random processes but what's to say god or "superior creator" helped push this on i'v listened to both sides and evolution has too much evidence for it to not be random but yet no Proof because after all in an infintally expanding universe it becomes harder and harder to prove things on random data so with no way of telling how can one clearly say it happened through random amounts of chemicals amounting into life? you can't and you can also say the same about the existence of god but it's shaky either way how can you say their interconnected? that's just my opinion

tho I dont believe in god in the way most people do, I dont necessarily believe that the concept of god and the concept of evolution are mutually exclusive. and evolution may or may not be completely random. after all, even the cycles of nature seem to be regulated in it's delicate balance. but we dont really know what's behind it.
