AMIES

User ImageAmies is probably the most stable and rounded region of the known world. It is a good natured place with little interest in war or expanding it's boundaries and lives comfortably - having a good amount of supplies gleaned from the bountiful territory; fish from the sea, fruit and vegetables farmed from it's fertile soil and meat from animals hunted in it's vast woods. However, despite it's large size Amies doesn't have many highly populated areas except for it's capital city Aimes; instead there are just a smattering of villages here and there nestled in Whi/Deith Forest, farming and gathering to support themselves. It's temperate climate causes no problems for the citizens. (Pleasantly warm in summer, but not sweltering, and cold in winter, but not freezing.) Thus there is little that Amies doesn't have or worries troubling it. For this reason it seems as though the majority of the dust bottles have been turning up here, as it provides a stable growing environment for the children to grow up in.

>> The Floating City of Aimes:

A very lively city. The most part of Aimes is floating above water about a mile out to sea, although there is a small village on the shore where the many ferrymen have settled - offering their services to get you across the water to the bustling festival city. Aimes holds many carnivals and celebrations and although there is a strong working atmosphere during the day (the most part of the city are fishermen or sailors) there is a distinct party atmosphere at night. At the centre of the town is Aimes Circle. All sorts of folk are blown here by the sea breeze and during the day this acts as the town's communal meeting place. There is a large noticeboard at the centre of the circle with all the town's events heralded there. Tacked to the board are all sorts of announcements by the people of Aimes - birthdays, job hunters, advertisements, anything you could name - it's probably there. As a result if looking for anything the people of Aimes generally have a glance at the message board first before asking around.. There isn't much regulation on what goes up, but because of how full it gets it is generally cleared every couple of weeks.

>> Whi Forest

Enter the Whi Forest with great caution. This land, dense with age old trees that wrap around each other, is the gate way to the fabled lands of the Centaurs, Unicorns and Faeries. Though this creatures may sound pleasant enough, it is wise to remember that not everything that wears a pleasant appearance has good intentions and visitors to the depths of the forest are not welcome. Despite this many ignore warning stories and enter as explorers and farmers. In fact most of Amies’ fruits come from these magnificent trees, and during spring and early summer the scent of the multitudes of flowers can be enjoyed all across the area. Unique flowers and herbs can be found within the sheltered glades of this wood and some say that somewhere within the wood is a flower to cure every illness. There are bodies of water deep into the forest. Many travellers enter the forest to enjoy these wonderfully cleansing springs. The waters are naturally warmed, sending mists into the lower regions of the woods at night, making travel more dangerous. The land is level in the forest, and many plants do not venture far from the roots of the trees or the shores of the ponds, instead grass freely covers perfectly smooth land, soft and rich due to the almost magically fertile soil - almost bordering on the same level as the soil in the land of Helena!

>> Siren's Shore

The City of Aimes can be found along Siren’s Shore. The city was originally placed as a way for old sailors to be able to easily flee from the songs of the sirens and the lures of mermaids that once populated the area. While most of the beaches around Amies are smooth and sandy, Siren’s Shore is mostly rocky, and lined with tall chalky cliffs. A distance off the shore there is a small rock that wouldn't even be big enough for three people to stand on. This is called Mermaids rock, where legend says that sirens and mermaids use to swim up to and sunbathe as they attempted to catch sailors. Despite no concrete fact, most sailors claim that some nights when the moon is full and the waves are still, they can hear a song coming from the rock. Not many have drifted close enough for fear that they would be lured to their deaths..

>> Deith/Dark Forest

The groves that make up Deith Forest are some of the oldest of Amies. The trunks are so thick and wide, and the trees so tall that it seems that they were made for giants to appreciate. One tree hollowed could easily home a couple of families, and despite no one being able to see to the top of the groves from the ground, they know they must be there. The branches that form about half way up sport no leaves, although further up they know they must. The great darkness within the forest is due mostly to the over growth on the tree trunks as well as the canapé that is supposedly so thick that it blocks most of the sunlight while feeding the giant trees, thus earning it the common name of “The dark forest”. Despite the lack of lower foliage, the Forest is home to some of the smallest creatures, bugs, birds, and some have said that they have come across Imps, small devilish creatures that look like they are roots of smaller plants and are often mistaken for such. Because of the darkness no one dares to enter the forest, and rumours have even started claiming the existence of creatures far eviller than little Imps... Dark creatures that come from a vortex from the underworld.

>> Dragon's Peak

If you turn your gaze to the far south of the main city of Amies you will see Dragon’s Peak. However the name comes, not from dragons of lore living there; rather because the large mountain looks like a large dragon itself, with wings that sharply fold up into the sky. The Dragon image appears to be over looking the ocean through the city, like a watchful guardian. In the center of the ‘folded wings’ on top of the mountain lies a cave which is a common tourist site for Amies. Although the climb is long and hard, it is not dangerous. The incline grows difficult only after the cave if you attempt to climb the wings. The cave itself is the real gem of the mountain. People have been going into the caves to look for ruins of ancestors that are said to have previously lived within the mountain. Some say there is something strange about the cave, but nothing out of the ordinary has yet to be found..

ARDYA

User ImageA region that is very territorial and inclined to pushing the boundaries to take the resources that it lacks from other areas through force. Ardya has Deith forest on it's western side, which prevents it from expanding into Amies and the bountiful Helena in the south is strictly off limits as it is run by women and in Ardyian culture attacking a woman is highly frowned upon. As a result most of it's advances fall upon Kana - raiding the marsh villages and stealing the boggy vegetables and fish that they live on there. This stealing tactic is required to support themselves because the hard rocky soil that they're settled upon doesn't allow for easy farming nor does the course short grass growing wild provide good grazing for animals. There are several settlements in Ardya - all heavy defended against attack and highly suspicious of newcomers... As a result there isn't good communication or collaboration between the citizens of this nation.

>> Plaou

The largest and most notable settlement in Ardya is Plaou. A place that prefers to keep to itself, surrounded by borders which are guarded rather fiercely by townsfolk. The townspeople here are mostly fighters and even the little boys are taught to fight and hunt. This fighting culture is probably due to the fact that they are located right next to the dark forest and have to fend off attacks from both the creatures of the Deith Forest and raids from other Ardyian towns. The town is perched on a large hill. Surrounding the base of the hill is a dry moat, filled with wooden stakes to reply creatures straying from the forest. A drawbridge is used to allow access in and out of the town and it is lifted after dark, resulting in the city having a strict curfew. Occasionally jousting tournaments or other competitions regarding strength and skill as a warrior take place, but only during the summer months when there is very little activity from the dark forest. This town is also said to be location of the very secret 'Dragon Hall'. The Dragon hall is where the best fighters on the continent battle each other for a sum of gold, for honour or just for fun. Only the best warriors of the land are rumoured to be allowed to know the true location of the dragon hall and legends dictate that the members of the hall will be granted a place amongst the army of the gods after their death on the mortal battlefield.

HELENA

User ImageHelena is a large, very peaceful region, run and governed primarily by women. This region was named after a woman who, in legends, was supposed to be the most beautiful woman in the world who had suitors travelling great distances to beg for her hand in marriage. Popular culture reflects this story and many believe that if a young man travels to Helena his true love will be revealed to him. This is probably just a fanciful story... But the abundance of women does rather raise the chances of a man finding a wife. The land here is often referred to as the motherland of farming as the most part of the countryside is blanketed by golden fields of wheat and grain. There are not many towns or villages here, but instead a lot of settlements scattered around the fields where families live rather solitary but happy lives harvesting the plentiful crop.

>> Idia

A sacred place for the people of Helena and thus there is a multitude of different buildings erected here to worship the gods. There is however one main temple - the huge white marble High Helena located on the top of the hill at the center of Idia, gazing out over the whole of Helena's rolling gold fields; It is said to bring good luck to travellers and be the source of the land's fertility. It is also believed that if a small offering is made to the alter, some of the lands fertility will be offered to you and so many women hoping for a child visit the temple. Many priestesses live inside the temples and devote their lives to the gods above. In this place there is a number of unicorn sightings - attracted by the large amount of pure females working in the temple.

>> Fields of Gold

The most part of Helena is covered in a blanket of swaying wheat, corn and other cereal crops. This abundance of growth is due to the amazingly fertile land and provides the citizens of Helena with more than enough to feed themselves. Because of this Helena have trade roots throughout the land to regions as far away as Maguipa! This huge amount of trade obviously means that Helena's people are very rich compared to the citizens of other regions of the world and their money earning farms have become commonly known as the fields of gold.

Faleen, Land of Knowledge:

Faleen, surrounded by the northern waters, with golden beaches that wrap the north, west and southern edges, and high cliffs that over look the sky to the east, is most well known as the knowledge center of the continent. The High Class town of Faleen boasts the largest libraries, the most research facilities, and the most brilliant teaching staff of the continent. Parents seeking the best tutoring for their children often risk the cost of sending their kids to the northern island in hopes that they will come back well skilled.
