Firewall & Plugin Access

The Windows Vista firewall should have automatically prompted you about the Vivox plugin giving you the choice to block it or unblock it, if you have already permitted Vivox with the firewall please move onto the next section of this tutorial. If this did not happen or you are using an older version of Windows then you may need to add the Vivox voice manager on your allowed programmes list.

Firewall Exceptions
Select the Start/Windows Icon> Control Panel> Security> Windows Firewall> Change Settings> Exceptions.

Now you should see a screen like this.
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Please check carefully if the Vivoxvoicemanager.exe is on the list. If it is not select Add Program and find the Vivox Voice Manager on the list which should look like this.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Firsly we need to copy this code, ensure to rename the "INSERT" text as your windows profile username for it to work correctly.

Note: There is a Gaia bug which reformats this lower path below, each word is seperate with a so please add the manually for this path to work correctly.
C:usersINSERTappdataroamingmozillafirefoxprofilesqzt0gl52.defaultextensions{abad4342-3fda-4ccf-80ac-b6d0eecaca07}pluginsvivoxvoicemanager.exe

Now select Browse and past that into the File Name menu and press the Open button. You should be back on the add programs list this time the Vivox voice manager is listed select it and press OK. On the Firewall Exceptions menu press OK again to complete this process.

If the copy and past path did not work out for you please find the file manually here is it's path.

Quote:
Desktop> Username> AppData> Roaming> Mozzila> Firefox> Profiles> qzt0gl52.default> Extensions> {ABAD4342-3FDA-4ccf-80AC-B6D0EECACA07} > VivoxVoiceManager

Now select the Vivoxvoicemanager.exe from the list and press OK and OK again on the firewall exceptions menu. Now this concludes the firewall settings part of the tutorial.

Voice Chat & Settings

Vivox Voice Manager
The Vivox Voice Manager is what enables the voice chat in zOMG so please ensure to learn how to use it outside of the game and inside of the game. Please observe on the bottom right corner there is a new icon which pops up when you boot up zOMG. That circle icon is your Vivox Voice Manager, please fully sign in and load up zOMG before continuing with this tutorial.

Status Notification
The Vivox icon indicates wither you are logged in or logged out. The grey icon means you are logged out and the green icon means you are logged in.

Vivox Option Settings
We will now configure the options to enable the Vivox. Roll over the Vivox icon and right click it to open up the options menu which should look like this.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Unmute
By default the microphone is set to mute so we need to click the Unmute System Microphone button to ensure we are able to use our microphone so that people can hear us.

Push To Talk
The Push to talk is a great feature which I recommend everyone to use. Basically rather then broadcasting the sound from your microphone all the time it will only send your audio when you press a button of your choice. So If I set the button to "Home, T, or Spacebar" then no one can hear me until I hold down the button and speak. Upon release of the button your microphone will mute itself so no sound is being broadcast.

Roll over the Vivox icon right click it and select the Configure Push-To-Talk option. So you should see this screen now.

The on screen information will suffice but to simplify click the inner black box, then press a key on the keyboard which you want to use for the push to talk hot key. Ensure the tick box is checked and lastly hit the OK button if you want to enable this feature.

Player HUD
The player HUD has some very handy and fun in game features for you to explore. You can mute and un-mute your microphone or other players so if someone is being noisy or annoying feel free to click that mute button on their Player HUD.

In addition the drop down menu gives you access to more options such as the Voice Font (Voice Mask) This is a fun feature to disguise your voice in a theme of your own choice but it does cost GC to enable and it will expire after a month of usage.

Roster List
The roster is a great menu which displays your outbound audio or other plays inbound audio on the audio bars so you know if you need to calibrate your sound options to either increase or decrease your sound.
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Audio Devices
The Audio Devices menu provide you with the ability to customize your input devices and speaker audio settings. If the voice chat is already working correctly just leave these at their default settings otherwise you may want to explore these option settings.

Release notes

Qixter
Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP)!
Otherwise known as "yakking to your Crewmates over a microphone!"

But it's very easy to use it. This is an "opt-in" feature, meaning that you do have to download a small app if you want to use it. When you get to the World List page (where you select a server at the start of the game), you'll see a large button talking about installing VOIP. Click that button and follow the on-screen instructions.

It's painless. Do it! smile

After that, there's nothing to activate at all. You just play the game, and anytime you join a Crew, you can talk to your Crewmates over your microphone. Everything else is handled auto-magically for you!

Some features:
- When anyone in your Crew speaks, their avatar portrait on the Crew List flashes. Also, their player dot on your PDA Map will flash. This helps you identify which voice belongs to which avatar.
- You have the option to mute/unmute any player. (It's a button on the Crew List.)
- If someone is really annoying, then you can also just kick them from your Crew (at which point they can't talk to you via VOIP any longer).
- If you're not the leader, then another option is that you can always quit an annoying Crew if their voice chat is bugging you.
- (And soon!) You'll have the option to ignore any player. Doing so will prevent you from ever hearing their voice again.

Please note: No customer service support is available for the VOIP feature. If someone bothers you while using VOIP, the mute, kick options (and later, ignore!) are more effective, and far timelier, than any customer service feature could be. Please use them instead. smile

Voice Fonts!
But wait, there's more!

Not everyone wants their normal voice to be heard by other players. So there is also a GCash feature available called "Voice Fonts".

Basically, these are filters that twist and distort your voice to sound like someone other than what you really are, including things like:
- Male to Female
- Female to Male
- Radio Announcer
- Military Helmet microphone
- Super Deep Voice
- and more.

Voice Fonts are only 99 GC for a month of use.
