Hymn & Cada

Leave tumbled across the sandy pathway, trees bent in the chilling air and people scurried home in all directions. It had been about a week since the dangerous demon and imp encounter and Hymn had yet to see any of the dusts really outside lately- unless accompanied by another. Sighing he hung his head in shame, he was a teenager, he should have been able to protect the kids from something like that.

He felt stupid, as he imagined most of the teens did after that day. Hymn had gone out of his way to keep out of sight and out of mind the past week so that he wouldn't end up being bothered by anyone.

Even against all warning though his feet still led him up the mountain path alone. He was mindlessly walking to a place he knew he had been before, but he couldn't recall where.'I don't know where exactly I'm headed, but away from scrutiny is the best I can do at the moment.' he sighed, thinking to himself.

The dust was growing as each day passed and it seemed as if being a dust was no longer just fun and games, a whole new dimension had been added in. Since he lost Cada in the rush down the mountain the dust had yet to confront the boy in fear that Cada would have began to hate him. "I hate this, I miss him, and I cannot even muster the strength to go see him." he complained. Kicking a rock with one of his feet as he walked his head lifted up and scanned the area where he had stopped.

It was a cliff-side view, his feet stood on the very edge of the towering rock and standing high above the churning seas he only frowned. The sight was beautiful, the sun seemed to be sleeping on the horizon as time crept slowly past him. Nothing was a rush anymore, everything seemed to blend.

If only he could contact Aren again, that would solve a major portion of his problems, especially those problems he had with himself."I just need to ask a few questions." Why exactly where they here? Where had he been? What was their destiny?

"Like he could answer any of it,"Hymn mused, "I need to do something to get my mind off this all."

Cada hadn't returned home since the events with the other dust. Staying with his papa he needed time to think, a little time to compose himself. There was just no way he could return back home to face Krinn or Sable. He knew they were okay, he had managed to sneak near the house to find them there but that was all. Sneaking into his room he gathered a few things then rushed back to be with his papa for a while.

And then there was now... walking aimlessly to his thinking spot. After losing Petunia he'd also lost his usual companion. Mr. Happy! It was nerve wrecking, something in him was off balance. Without that doll he just didn't feel complete, he couldn't keep his mind from straying even the nightmares were worse now. With what little vigor he had he hurried to the cliffs wanting to clear his mind and maybe summon enough strength to find Petunia and get Mr. Happy back.

Only he hadn't expected to run into Hymn. He knew that form without seeing the face or the helmet. Looking away, Cada wasn't ready for this. Hardly ready to see him but relieved he was okay. Thank goodness he was okay. Still with his current state, no ball cap, no hoody, no Mr. Happy, and a pair of baggy tattered pants he looked like a wreck. Bags were evident under his eyes, blood shot from lack of sleep... what more could he do. Still he moved forward slowly at first then his feet picked up and he found himself wrapped around the other burying his cheek into Hymn's back. "I missed you." He breathed choking back tears of relief and pent up fear. "I'm so happy you're safe!"

Hymn heard nothing behind him, no movement, no sound, until he was almost pushed off the cliff from a hug from behind. He was scared for a moment until his ears heard a familiar voice. Smiling from the comfort he slowly turned around and wrapped his arms around the others. "For you, I'd always be safe," he whispered holding Cadaver closer than he had in a very long time. The two dusts hadn't spent quality time alone in some time, and that event on the mountain seemed to just pull them closer.

"Cadaver, what are you doing out here alone, I know it's not the time to ask, but you shouldn't he alone- and not in this weather." Hymn asked, holding the other closer. The wind blew threw his hair sending a chill down his spine but he didn't mind. In care for the other Hymn pulled off his own jacket and wrapped it around the other. "You need to keep warm, especially in this weather."

Pulling the both of them away from the cliff edge Hymn looked around them and back down to Cada. "You normally are never without Mr. Happy, where is he?" he asked worriedly. Unless Cada ended up losing it again it was uncommon to see the teen without his favorite companion.

Hopefully they could go on a scavenger hunt together for it.

"Pretty Peat." He breathed curling into the other with a sense of calm. "The little one that smelled of swamp water. I let her hold him cause she was scared but we got lost in the rust to return home. I don't know where she lives..." Which was something he should have thought about. Though it was hardly anyway for him to know that they'd be separated or that he would lose his sanity in the process. It just seemed to slowly deteriorate. "I need him." He breathed pressing closer.

He was thankful for the coat, feeling a bit stupid for not having his usual hoody but he just didn't think about it when he walked out the door. Everything was going crazy now. "I'm sorry I didn't find you sooner... there's been a lot on my mind."

"I can tell," Hymn whispered- his gaze reached the horizon than it lowered back to Cadaver's face."What have you been thinking about?" he asked. Touching the other softly on the cheek he leaned in close,"Don't apologize for not finding me, I haven't been at home all the past week. Only once to drop in and tell Sojo what happened."

The events flashed before him again."I don't want to experience that again, don't ever leave me alone like that, please," Hymn begged. Looking at the other desperately a tear formed on the rim of his shaking eyes. "I don't want to face the thought of losing you to those creatures, to anyone." It felt to cliche, but it felt proper to say. Hymn knew losing Cadaver would tear him apart.

"Why don't we go find where Petunia lives? Hm?" he suggested, trying to sound more comforting to the other.

"I haven't really been thinking. My mind is in a mess it's just seems like I got a lot to think about but I don't know where to start." He sighed into the other trying to think but soon he just let all thoughts escape him. It was better not to get too worked up. Once he got Mr. Happy back maybe he'd feel better, the uneasiness without the toy was unbearable.

When Hymn begged for him not to leave again, Cada was more than welcome to accept that. "I won't. I'm sorry." He amended, smiling upon the dust. "But we can look for Mr. Happy later. I just want to spend a little time with you first."

A smile spread across the tearful dust's tired face as he nodded. "Of course, but staying out in the open would be dangerous. Where would you like to go?" he asked, turning to face the swaying forest. The churning seas were making him uneasy. If felt like something was coming, something far worse than anything they had experienced before.

Ever since that day just being outside felt this way- he didn't know why. Hymn didn't venture to find out why either. Instead he took Cadaver's hand and pulled him out of sight into the thick Whi forest where their journey had first began.

Only a sprint later and the both of them burst through into the clearing where their first game had taken place, that old tale-tale hide-and seek. "Remember this spot, it looks so different. I wonder if we're even in the right place."Hymn mused questionably.

Cada didn't mind being pulled alone, it was much easier being guided then to be the one guiding. With all that had transpired in the last few days he couldn't seem to stand on his own two feet. Spending time with an old friend one as close as Hymn was a relief, a distraction he needed.

However, unlike when he was a child Cada couldn't seem to find the happiness he once held. Coming into the clearing he looked around musing over the familiar place but unable to really enjoy the magic from when he was younger. Somehow he felt out of sorts. Was being older doing that to him? He could only wonder but managed a small limp smile just the same.

"I remember. This is the spot." He commented kneeling down to brush slender fingers along a rock. Picking the rock up he held it in hand smoothing the dirt from its surface. "Its here that I had gotten lost at first. I didn't like the dark... somehow I still don't." Though he could handle it a little better than normal.

"Darkness is something we ought to wish we never have to see, but we do, for that is the will the world transpires against us. Perhaps- after that fight something might change, but we cannot loose ourselves Cada." Hymn duly noted after the dusts sullen response. Perhaps the string of events or the rapidness of pulling him close drew the other further away. Hymn knew however that he could not let the poor boy draw away and disconnect himself, it was dangerous to be alone at this time.

Nodding his head he dropped the others arm and maneuvered his way slowly though the overgrown grass, sprawling ivy, and bending trees in the depressing wind. "Here, is where we first truly fought, truly found protection in the other..." Hymn reminisced about the day and shook his head, "Times seem to have changed now it seems. No longer does the shallow river flow over drowned rocks."

Drowning himself in the thoughts about their past Hymn stretched a smile over his face. "We will do something different. Where do you want to go, I need to see you smile again...hun?" He asked, adding the last bit on there in the last instant.

Cadaver tried to smile but it was a poor attempt. His heart wasn't in it and with the youth smiling was the easiest thing for him to do, like breathing. For him to suddenly become solemn was not natural for the teen. "I don't have anywhere I want to go in particular, Hymn. Let's just try to enjoy the day." Even though it was becoming a real fact that the teen was trying to shift and move away from the other.

He wanted to be free of this strange depressing anxiety. How does one cope with such a strange feeling. Being happy was easy, smiling, laughing and playing it was all a regular part of his day. So what does one do with they couldn't smile anymore? "I lost my smile, Hymn." He breathed kneeling before a worm to poke at it. The creature curled and rolled trying to be free of the momentary torment before Cada helped to place it in the grass where it slowly borrowed under ground. "I want to smile again..."

The dust hadn't ever heard of any sort of being having lost their smile. With Cadaver anything was possibly though. Pulling on the lock of hair that had come loose and began to occupy a portion of his eyesight he weighed several options silently in his head. Perhaps taking the other to an amusement park would help, or someplace creepy. In fact- with as much as he liked the other- he knew hardly anything about Cada.

Listening to the rustle of the trees and the chirping of drowned out bird calls he shifted his weight from his feet to his hands as he leaned back. The sky was shifting restlessly and it felt as if a storm was on the horizon. "What do-" he paused, "Where do you want to do?"

Reiterating the question made more sense in his head. He had to find that smile that was hidden somewhere in the other youth. There was no sense in watching the other fade away. It wasn't right- not according to Hymn.

No dust, no human deserved to live an unhappy- and unfulfilled- life. "Come with me, how about we go explore one of the old ruins on the outside of town. We can take a train if you'd like?" he looked at the other before cautiously moving his hand upon the others.

Biting his bottom lip he thought for a moment over the idea of exploring the ruins. He had never been allowed outside the city limits and with his new status leaving on his own (mind you with Krinn and Sable) he could pretty much make up his own rules. If so, it wouldn't hurt to take an exploration away from the usual grounds right?

His bottom lip popped out from his teeth as he looked to the familiar form before him. "Can we?" He seemed to ask for permission just the same. Though the very adventurous part of him would rather explore and worry about it later. "I've never been out of town before... " Trailing off he looked away realizing he hadn't done much as a child outside of the usual that a child did. "I never road on a train either." He finally confessed and turned hopeful eyes upon his long time companion.

The siren looked upon his companion with a flaming amount of curiosity before he raised his hand to match his partners. "Let us go then," he smiled and took a breath, "I shall be glad to escort you to the ruins Sir."He smiled at his attempt to put on an eastern accent. Letting out a short bout of laughter he took Cadaver's hand and began walking towards the edge of the forest.

The skies had grown brighter with the changing environment. Hymn thought it nice that the gods would be so kind- given the circumstances. Walking side-by-side Cada the dust looked around before he stepped out of the forest. It was still a dangerous world. However, the teen tried not to show it.

Humming a tune softly beneath his breath he tried to relax the other teen before they boarded the train. In minutes they were easily in front of the train station and their destined train was about to deport. "Would you like the speed train or a car train?" he asked, "A car train is more comfortable and you see the sights more." The last note was to encourage his companion to pick the later.

It was a lot more in formal and hectic upon a speed train. No matter the train though, they would still be stuck together. This journey was far from over.

After all, he had explore the ruins once with Sojo after he had woken up. The ruins were creepy but not dangerous. They held a lot of history. There was also something he wanted to show Cadaver.
