~<•>~ The Forest Guardian ~<•>~

Given Name: Embri
Overall Temper: Honorable
Notable Traits: Loyal, Stubborn, Wary, Solitary, Gentle, Practical
Age: Mature for a Unicorn, best not to ask exactly how old... *wink*
Affinity: Nature (primary) Wind (secondary)
Job: Healer, Mid-Wife
Mate: None, and there never will be.
RP Color: Dark Red

Likes: Peace and Quiet, making others feel better, young things (foals, animals, saplings, species irrelevant), excelling at her profession.
Dislikes: Males, especially chauvinistic "love 'em and leave 'em" types, careless destruction of the forest, those who fail to take responsibility for their actions.

Typical Quotes:
"Males... good for nothing, only thing between their ears is thoughts of tail-chasing!"
"Oh dear, you didn't eat that, did you?"
"Excuse me, I have an expectant mare to care for, please get out of the way. .... you may stay if you're quiet."
"Well, what's done is done, no sense in crying over it, you'll just have to make the best of the situation."

Embri is above all a strict follower of her own personal code of honor - to speak only truth, to care for those new-born to the world, and to share the art of healing. To call her devoted to her profession would be an understatement - for her, being a healer and mid-wife *is* her life, and everything she does revolves around her chosen path. All else is secondary; as such her personal appearance tends to suffer for it. Bits of leaves and twigs go unnoticed in her hair and she rarely bothers to groom out her coat, having no time for such "frivolous" pursuits. She's not above administering a stern lecture or two to those who end up expecting because of foolish or rash life choices either, though her general attitude is "make the best of what you have today."

While generally cordial or even friendly to mares and foals, the fiery maned mare can turn positively glacial when confronted with a stallion. Single males are generally avoided or met with the pointy end of her horn if they try to get friendly, the merest suggestion is generally enough to set her off. Embri is quite tight-lipped if asked for her reasoning for such distrust, evading or flat out refusing to answer the question. "I have been around long enough to know the lay of the land, young one, males are not to be trusted!"

Embri's quite willing to go to her "patients" rather than expecting them to come to her, given their generally gravid condition. She spends a lot of time afield, flying between mares. Any mate or adoptive parent (of the male variety) is likely to get a cool reception at best or an outright chasing off at worst, depending on how much affection/bond the mare displays towards him. Embri sometimes couriers baskets to expectant mothers too far to make the trip to the Kawani village as well as doing checkups during their pregnancy and assisting with the actual delivery.

Though she has Unicorn ancestry, Embri relies on traditional herbal medicine almost exclusively, rather than her own innate magic when it comes to helping or healing. She roams a large section of the deep forest, carefully collecting medicinal plants and herbs. Many of her remedies require unusual and rare materials, so she spends a lot of her "free" time gathering them. Embri's healing magic is flawed, though it's unknown if this is due to some innate problem with her crossbreed ancestry or trainable technique. She is unable to direct her healing to a specific individual, instead it manifests as an "area effect" - healing all the living things around her but at a much diminished capacity. While a normal Uni might be akin to a flashlight, Embri's healing is more like a candle - weaker, undirected, and shed in a radius. While her healing ability is unpredictable, it is tied to strong emotions - especially potent feelings tend to invoke her gift unconsciously. Her inability to control her natural healing powers is a source of consternation and embarrassment for the mare.

~<•>~ Potential Plots ~<•>~

Baskets Ho!
Clueless young mare with no idea what's going on that needs to figure out she's preggers? Mares in denial, or suffering from morning sickness? Embri makes an excellent foil for getting your basket plots moving along, be it handling of the in-laws, complications, or simply a nice warm shoulder to cry on. There's very little that surprises her anymore. Bonus a**-kicking of offending male tossed in free of charge.

Notes: Quite willing to drop Embri into plots at any stage of pregnancy, flings or actual mate present. Doesn't have to be deliveries - she's experienced in treating symptoms as well as pre-natal care.

Aww, they're so cute when they're getting in trouble...
Embri has a soft spot for foals, of any variety. She's not really a motherly sort but she does appreciate young ones. Her foremost concern is usually ensuring they aren't in any danger and that they make it back to their parent(s), eventually. Beyond that she makes a sympathetic ear to listen to woes, and a friendly wing to comfort.

Notes: Unsure what Embri would make of an Usdia - quite possibly mistake them for a rather fat foal who's gotten lost. Comic plot anyone? *grin*

The Healer's Path
Embri's not a young mare, though hardly ancient by unicorn standards, and she's picked up a fair bit of herblore in her life. As a mixbreed she doesn't rely on her horn much for healing powers except in the most dire emergencies (and her techniques are flawed, see above.) Mares of any species looking to pick up a bit of healing lore wouldn't be badly off with Embri as a teacher - she tends to be to the point but patient.

Notes: She might take an older colt as an apprentice but stallions would have a very hard time working under Embri - she doesn't tolerate males very well.

Lessons in Lovesickness
It'd be fun to torture her a bit with a guy who actually isn't the jerk she thinks most males are. Would have to be persistent enough to keep at her (she's pretty good at escaping being winged) and stick around long enough to make her guilty about the whole situation.

Notes: Please realize this will never end in baskets, regardless of outcome.

These are just a few ideas - quite happy with anything that isn't expected to end in a romantic relationship.
