Even better I'd say. Slow promotions can make a military career difficult.

If I remember right, each new pay grade has a certain amount of time before you can even apply for that position...

But even then, you've gotta pass a PQS, and I hear there's a written test.

Oh, well, yeah, you have to take a test or pass a board or spend enough time in grade for all of the branches.
But I also know that if you spend too long in grade, you can get kicked.
