Who: Friday & Lemon - Ciellas & Anouk
Where: Beach right beside the harbor.
When: Late morning, early afternoon.
Weather: The sun is out and blaring down on just about everyone. Minimal breeze.

Both human and dust inhaled, allowing the scent of the ocean to fill their lungs. And in unison they exhaled, becoming quite pleased with the scenery. The sky was clear, dotted with very few clouds, allowing the golden orb above to unleash it's almighty power on anyone who dared to exit their homes. Friday and Lemon were quite prepared for a day out in the sun, just sporting matching swimming trunks. That of course was Lemon's idea, who practically begged the man to buy ones in the same fashion. Anything to shut the child up Friday remembered. The damn kid sure could grind on his nerves.

The color dustling did not stand and gawk at the play field that lay before him. Instead he leap into the sand below, skipping the few wooden steps that a decent person would use, and ran towards the deep blue sea. Well, would have if he had not leapt back in reaction to the blistering sand that now proposed itself as a obstacle. " Fri! It hurt! " Lemon pointed to his feet, his voice full of concern. Why had it burned him? That was not very kind of it. Not kind at all.

" No shi- I mean, well of COURSE. The fuc-freaking sun is basically melting it into glass. " Friday figured having a vulgar vocabulary was no longer suitable, not that it ever was. Honestly though, the road to becoming a half way decent father figure was a tough one. So many changes due to one freakish bottle. Oh how simple life was! The young man almost drifted into a montage of memories if Lemon had not tugged at his hand. " Yeah, yeah. Put on your slippers first, dummy! " Friday gave Lemon a quick whack in the head and leaned down to grab their bag full of beach necessities. Water, sandwiches, floaties, whatever else he could manage to stuff in there.

Lemon slipped on his lime green sandals and went off again, this time with confidence. " Hurry hurry! What if the ocean goes away? " The pale child yelled, already gaining quite a distance from the older male. Sweat gleaming ever so brightly on his smooth forehead. He was quite adorable, Friday admitted, if he kept those lips sealed.

" .....Shut up already. " Friday sighed, shaking his head in disbelief. " Don't even think about going in the water! " He shouted after Lemon.

" Cause if he drowns, well, that would be bad and good news. "

"Ye wanted to come so badly. So come out."

"No." The sun was blazing, and Ciellas was beginning to feel the prickling burn on her exposed arms. But despite the insistent tugs that she gave the fair-skinned child hiding beneath the safety of a seaside shop's roof, the tiny sandaled feet would not budge. Blue eyes glared insistently at her from beneath the brim of the floppy hat that she had borrowed from her guardian, who only sighed.

Perhaps, on retrospect, today was not the best day for a beach outing.

The trip had started so smoothly when they had set out this morning, a basket packed with beach accessories and smiles all around. Anouk was wide-eyed with excitement as she dangled and kicked her legs over the back of the wagon that agreed to take them towards the coastline, and Ciellas was feeling optimistic that some of the child's restlessness would be eased by a day of good old exercise. But the good mood had started to fade as the sun climbed ever higher, and the coolness of the morning became the stifling heat of noon. Anouk began to sweat profusely and clutched at her wide-brimmed hat miserably as she whined, and as soon as the wagon creaked to a halt she darted towards the closest shop for shelter from the unforgiving sun.

"Perhaps ye'll feel better in the water. Ye know how y'like the water." Ciellas was doing her best to be optimistic, but the complaints and whining that lasted the whole trip were now grinding in her brain as a headache approached. "We came all this way. C'mon now." She tugged once more with a touch of impatience. But Anouk did not move.

"No. I want to go home." Her mouth was set in a firm line, tiny fingers still clutched over the large brim of her straw hat. The formality, the crispness of her voice only served to irritate her guardian the more.

"Then fine. Stay here all ye want and waste the whole day!" The woman slipped her hand from the child and threw her arms up in exasperation. She paced a few steps before moving into the shop, deciding on buying something to cool her overheated brain. Anouk heard her murmur something about being ungrateful as she disappeared behind the door with the jingle of a bell, and heaved a small sigh.

Well Ciellas had only herself to blame. She had said it was going to be just like the lake! This was nothing like the lake at all. The lake had trees, was cooler, a lot closer to their home.. right at the edge of their property in fact.

.. But this miserable place.

Anouk crammed the hat further down her head. The sweat plastered her hair to her cheeks, and she glared at the ocean from her point of safety. Stupid, pointless ocean. She even watched a boy go dashing down the beach happily, and a surge of jealousy rose in her. Eyes directed upward momentarily towards the blue, cloudless sky.

Stupid, pointless sun.
