To me, 50k isn't that much. I've writen more than that in about a month. It shouldn't be that hard for a lot of other people, also. I totally agree with not setting borders, though. It blocks the writing process.

That's just in my opinion.

50k is kinda sorta much, in my opinion.

in all honesty?
i crapped my pants a bit when i read the 50k limit.

as a writer, i struggle with finishing my work.
it's not that i don't have ideas... i just lose interest.
it's my cross to bear razz

but, i'm actually excited about working on something
that will have a substantial amount of length.
NaNoWriMo is calling to me biggrin

Exactly my problem. I don't have the concentration span to do NaNoWriMo. Or the Ideas XD, if I'm gonna write something it's because I feel like writing not because I have an Idea, when I sit down to write that's when I start to mix the brains up smile

[On topic] I don't think 50K is too little either, you can fit a good story into 50K and deffo do a good piece over 50K. It's all about how your work flows really. I mean if you're a fast paced writer then 50K is plenty smile

50k is the minimum not the maximum. Besides which, more than 70k in the current market is bloated. More does not mean better.

The average size for a fantasy novel that's a little bigger than things like Great Gatsby is around 90k, and 75k is "average". But how long you want your novel, NaNo or otherwise, to be is completely up to you.

I doubt my story will be 50,000 words. Maybe a tad bit more.

My story is probably going to be ungodly long. 5ok is nowhere near enough. I have a self requirement of at least 4000 words A CHAPTER for any story I write. I try for 5000, sometimes hit 6k.
And telling a story in 10-14 chapters? Nuh-uh.

If all goes well, I'm going to try to keep to a schedule of a chapter a day, at 5k a chapter. Because when I start writing, and have good ideas to go on, I feel cheated if I stop too soon.

100k-150k story, here I come.

I am insanely ready for NaNoWriMo this year! Last year was a rough year for me and I couldn't sign up. But now that I have signed up, I am ready to kick in 50K words.

The correct length for a story is however long it needs to be. I do agree though -- 50,000 seemed like a lot of words until I started typing; three days in, I hit over 5000 words without even pushing very hard, hardly anything has happened, and I've been seriously skimping on the descriptions!

I'm really liking doing this so far though. The daily word count goal means that I'm WRITING things. I sort of hope I can find some kind of counter to plug my word counts into after November ends, because without this visible progress bar I know I'll just end up thinking about things without actually writing them.
