I wrote 50k this year and last year, but I have a problem. I didn't finish my story!

And it seems like I've done this for both my NaNoWriMo pieces. Is this my fault? Should I just suck it up and start writing, or should I do things more carefully and planned now that I don't have a deadline?

That and my inner editor is no longer silent, I already know things I want to change, and things that I should take out entirely...

Should I just finish it, or should I edit AND finish? Advice?

(At least I know the plot direction of my 2nd NaNo story, the first one I discontinued because I forgot where the plot was supposed to go.)

You're not alone, I also did not finish my story in the 50k needed for NaNo.

As for your question, I would say if you know the plot direction for it, to finish and then edit it. Or if you know you plan to change something dramatic in what you have written that will change the outcome of the plot then edit what you have written already first then finish it so you are not faced with a major editing feat in the end.

Finish it. If the inner editor wants out, why not let it have some fun too?

Try taking a more planned route, but having a schedule doesn't really mean you'll follow it, but it's probably a start in the right direction, practice you could say? Might also help you not forget things too. xP

For now though, since there is no dead line, just work on getting it done. It's not putting bread on the table so.... why concern with the when and how, just that it happens should feel good enough.

;n; Though, as I non participant in NaNo.... I could be wrong.

Just finish the story. The story is important, and you'll have to write it in as many words as it requires.
