How to Tektek
A bit of a preface- tekteking is where you create an avatar using any items you want, typically in order to try to complete it by gaining the items on Gaia by purchasing them with gold. There are also commonly 'Tektek Contests' in which a user provides his/her inventory to tektek with (an ability that will be explained in more detail later) and/or has other users create themed avatars (e.g. fall, pink, faerie, etc.).
Now down to business.
To start, you go to tektek.org and click the 'Gaia Dream Avatar' link- or, get straight to it by typing in tektek.org/dream. You then click the 'Start' button.
Once inside the tektek function, you can first choose a body- male or female, skin color, or, if you like, even a special avatar such as alien, centaur, grombie, or vampire. (There's a dropdown menu that says 'Normal Avatars' when you first see it which can be toggled to 'Special Avatars' in order to see the other types.)
After you've selected your body type, you can then select hair, eyes, and mouth- or not, and simply move right into the 'Items' tab and use poses from items to fill in those three features.
Once you've finished your avatar, you click 'Save' or 'Save Avatar'- the first if you're using the modern interface, the second for the flash version. You will then be directed to a page that gives you links to the avatar, a list of the items included in your avatar, and a bar that lets you name your avatar, headed 'Find This Avatar Later'.
Once you have named your avatar, you can access it in a couple of different ways.
One is to go back to the tektek start page- tektek.org/dream- and then click the link on the right that says 'Search Avatars', then type in the word/name you used.
Another is to type in 'tektek.org/avatars/tektekname', replacing 'tektekname' with the name you gave your saved tektek- for example, my tekteks are under 'tektek.org/avatars/symbolon'.
If you want to use an avatar you've already made to work from, you can click the 'Outfits' tab in the dream avatar maker and type in the name you gave your tektek, then click it to use it. You can also go to the avatar's page and press 'Start New Avatar'.
If you want to use only your own items, you can use the Inventory Tektek function. You access this by going back to the tektek start page and clicking 'Inventory tektek', following its instructions, and from the page that states your account worth, click 'Inventory Tektek' on the left. From there, you can share the link with others so they can use your inventory to tektek with.
