Finally her smile wavered at the grumpy response she got from her sister. The situation wasn't ideal but they were far from deserving that grim tone.. but perhaps that was a reflection of how Lailah had stayed neutral all through the rebellion. In all honesty, Neema was shocked there was no backlash for that, but she was grateful. And she suspected it was another thing to attribute to the differences between social and religious leadership.
"Yes, but making statements doesn't contribute much to a conversation," Neema replied with a sharp edge of her own, "And whether or not you want to talk about it, you're going to have to."
It was Lailah's right and responsibility to name a successor to the throne, but she would be foolish not to consider what others had to say on the matter. And, smart as she was, she had to know that.. she probably needed a change of topic and scenery but Neema wasn't expecting that to happen yet.
"You can talk to me about it, you know."

"No, you're not alone," Neema said sternly, stomping a foot for emphasis, "Ultimately it is your decision and you, the monarch and the pride will have to live with that.. but if you're alone, it's because you choose to be."
She hadn't meant to come here to argue, it simply happened. She didn't know how else to deal with her stubbornly isolated and worried sister, this was significantly more difficult to deal with than anything she'd worked on during the rebellion.
Taking a deep breath, she made an effort to calm her voice before going on.
"You may not want my opinion and that's fine," she said, "Maybe you don't want the opinions of every Badiri, Mwezi and Iah.. but you should talk to Liuhe, or Meshach, or Ota, or Unyezi!"
There were options! Maybe Liuhe wasn't especially helpful at first but he must have had some time to work things out in his head.. and the rebellion leaders' official stances had been very relaxed but they must have had actual opinions.. and Unyezi, like Lailah, had stayed out of trouble during the whole mess but he was the closest they had left to a monarch.
