Name: Lhuzana
Age: 42
Sex: Female
Sexual Orientation: Aromantic Bisexual
Weyr: Western Weyr
Rider Rank: Wingrider
Previous Rank/Craft: Jny Harper, Maps and exploration, HarperHall spy
Physical Description:
Overall, she is not a remarkable-looking person.
In in size, she is only on the tall side of medium with a slender, wiry frame and broad shoulders, as well as a straight back. She has the confident air of someone much larger than herself. She does not throw her weight around, nor does she shrink back from conflict, real or implied. Her bearing and good posture could have come from noble breeding just as easily as intellectual studies.
With ash-blond hair, which features almost silver highlights, her greying temples and intermittent streaks are not readily noticeable. She keeps it long and it falls into natural curls; it could be wavy if she styled it or wild with ringlets if she did not.
Regarding her beauty, she has regular features that are merely pleasant to look at and even easily forgettable. She has no abnormal or striking features. Her body is tanned all over, including her face, but her skin has taken a only a moderate amount of weathering over the Turns. As a result of this and the fact that she rarely frowns or smiles, she has a minimum of wrinkles except around her eyes. She will likely age gracefully. As such, she could be any age between twenty-five and fifty. She can disappear into a crowd because she could be anybody. That is exactly the kind of person HarperHall likes to employ as a spy!
Clothing has typically not been an indulgence she could afford. That is to say, her life has been more or less nomadic, and over the Turns has on several occasions had to leave with little more than the clothes on her back. Regarding personal possessions as something she needs like she needs a dramatic romance, nevertheless she does enjoy dressing up for a Gather on the HarperHall's token, and since moving to the Weyr has enjoyed that permanence that would allow her to keep her own laying around. Or in a sturdy armoire acquired with her own hard-earned token.
Personality:
A cold fish on the outside, she is very hard to get to know. Though she relies on emotions as little as possible, she is just as easily caught up in them as anyone else. She just tries her utmost to set them aside for "more important" motives.
In her down time, she does not connect with people very easily. For those she cares deeply for, she may even show a barely restrained passionate side. She hates feeling awkward and unsure of herself, out of control. But she has been harmed in the past prefers passion that lasts for a night. Her nomadic origins and career have forced her to quickly move from place to place, a lifestyle that further supported her "single yet unavailabile" status in the past. So many turns have now passed that, now that she is stationed at Western Weyr, she does not know any other way to be when it comes to personal relationships. So she rarely seeks or nurtures them. Perhaps her fleeting hope will be that she will not need to bother with it.
At work she uses logic and practicality whenever possible. She prefers to do things "by the book," and she would defend "the book" because sometimes those rules provide the most practical approach. This can make her seem rather rigid, however, she will not waste resources on a doofy plan, even if it follows the rules, because she realizes that rules are merely a guideline to follow when in doubt. She will take even poorly timed new information seriously and act accordingly. As she takes the side of objectivity, she will bluntly offer her reasons for a decision or revision, and can at times be rather callous. She does not care about who is right or wrong, just the result of the revised plan. She does not take offense or get defensive when she is wrong. Her lack of reaction may actually surprise people who wanted to get a rise out of her.
It should not be said aloud that she regards people and dragons as objects or commodities, but when at work on a plan involving statistics and charts, they sort of are. That said, for those she is responsible for, she shows an intense loyalty and protectiveness. Those who have witnessed this have whispered the nickname "Mama Wher."
As an interesting and seemingly contradictory quirk, she has a problem with authority-- not because she challenges it, but because she knows freedom and lawlessness. She trusts the law through practice over the merit of individuals. She may find that Western Weyr has people of a different kind, who do rule by merit, or at least the choice of the people. As such she may come to respect it and its government, and support it freely. Only time will tell.

History:
Lhuzana's childhood was spent with one of the caravans of Western, who were friendly with and traded with Zanoma Camp. She was accustomed to dragons and enjoyed their strong and watchful presence. Traveling meant long hours under the sun. She learned a variety of skills, such as tending to the oxen and humans alike with basic first aid, repair work on the wagons, pitching camp, and selling wares.
She was sent to HarperHall because she showed an aptitude for drawing scenery, and her impeccable sense of direction lead to very accurate map making (for a child). She came highly recommended (with letter of recommendation) by the Harper traveling with her train at the time.
She returned home once she walked the tables, and while she fully intended to return to her old life, she came back subtly changed and never quite fit in ever again. However, she continued her new map making trade in her spare time, riding a runnerbeast (bought with her new Harper's salary) so that she could wander or stop as needed to continue her sketching. She would probably continue to do this for the rest of her life, with little interest in obtaining her Mastery, if not for several factors. Her training came at a cost and with a firm order: that she must send information back to the Hall very discreetly. She hates this part of her job. However, it came with a perk in the form of a firelizard egg; she can not say they never gave her anything worthwhile for her troubles. She loves and even dotes on her little Brown, Drift.
Later, at the age of 23 she Impressed Green Fintrath at Western and later joined Zanoma Camp. She fed information to HarperHall about them, too. She still hated spying, even though these people seemed more like distant relations than the close family of her caravan.
Fintrath, bless her heart, came from a clutch of eggs that will be detailed once clutch records are assigned.
Lhuzana did not believe she would ever Impress, but she could not stay away, either. From the Stands she watched people she knew both closely and distantly find their forever partner, and the play of emotion displayed so clearly upon their faces. Then she learned just how strong a dragon's will can be when one hatchling made her way to the Stands and creel up at Lhuzana. It was-- and still is-- awe-inspiring. All of this went into her report, of course.
Fintrath's name echoed through her mind at a whisper, as if uncertain who might accidentally hear. It sounded different than an actual sound, but was just as muffled as a mumbling child, to Lhuzana. When their eyes met the fog evaporated immediately and Fintrath trumpeted for all to hear. I am Fintrath! Lhuzana is mine and nobody else's!
Live in the moment, plan for the future. She has at least two living children. As a dragonrider, she was able to abort at any time without repercussion. But she chose to have them because she believes that children are important for the future, perhaps more so than dragons and their riders! But she did not raise them or try to keep in contact with them. Instead, once each was old enough to be weaned, she left them in the care of the caravan while she flew off to explore the islands or escort the caravans. To her firstborn, her old mapmaking companion the runner was given, however.
Quote:
Transferred to Western Weyr after Threadfall's return. She had been an explorer, but Fintrath was determined to fight Thread. To please her dragon she came to the Weyr, but feels trapped by the lifestyle.
She has a third child confirmed to have died in the first waves of Threadfall. Perhaps that is part of the reason for her decision to try to live at the Weyr: to protect the children of Pern.

DRAGON
Name: Fintrath
Age: 19
Color: Green
Size: 24 feet (7.3 meters)
Physical Description: On the larger side of average, she is not remarkable in stature or ability. She is only of average speed, dexterity, and agility. Her coloration is a soft dark green with paler green tiger stripes on neck, legs, and tail. Their hues are not remarkably bright, dark, or pale. There is no special sheen or shimmer aside from what a well-oiled hide might show. In other words, she does not stand out in any given crowd. Anyone who is familiar with dragons could even find her arrogance rather inappropriate.
Personality: Rather militant, sometimes she is the one who motivates Lhuzana. Rising early, training, eating etc.; it does not matter what it is. Shameless, she is not afraid to annoy Lhuzana at an inappropriate time, or bugle it out for all to hear. Sometimes she may even use expletives, most of which she does not properly understand, much to Lhuzana's chagrin and everyone else's amusement.
When it comes to humor, she is rather literal-minded and cannot appreciate it for herself. But she does know when she is the butt of a joke or when she has done something funny. She does not take offense, for there are few besides another dragon who would go up against an angry Green. That much, and the fact that they are cowards to deride her, she can understand. It makes her stiffly proud to know that they are merely ants compared to her.
This self-satisfied attitude carries over to when she Rises, and she finds most males to be worthy of her contempt only.
Though she is absolutely thrilled to be a part of a Weyr like Western, she does find it a bit more constraining than desired. She is used to traveling, "roughing it," training and fighting Thread only as needed. Though she can be considered militant, she does miss the freedom that a Weyr certainly cannot provide, no matter how non-traditional it is. That is where Lhuzana comes in, reminding her that they serve a greater purpose, even if they are stuck protecting complete strangers who would never pay them personally for their hard work. In this way, Lhuzana keeps her grounded, so that the anchoring goes both ways.
