Finbar shook his head. He wasn't good at naming things. At least, he didn't think he was.. Now that he thought about it, he wasn't sure the issue had ever come up before. It's not like he had any pets growing up. People named ships, but he'd never had one of his own. He tilted his head thoughtfully. Cal named most of his ships after storm systems. He looked down at the ball of fussy, savage energy in his arms. "Maybe Squall?" he suggested, hesitantly.

He looked up and smiled at the blue on her shoulder, who was also acting jealously. It was good to know it wasn't only his. That must be a trait of baby flits in general. "What's yours called?" he asked her.

---

Standing, with one arm supporting the firelizard from below, Cal held the meat roll a little higher, hoping to tempt it out of his shirt and onto his shoulder. Instead, the mouth retreated but started whining pitifully, quivering. He sighed and brought the food closer again. "You're a skitish little darling, aren't you?" he said, already deciding that was what he would call her. His little green Darling. He smiled.

Since he seemed to have snatched up the last of the hatchlings, he figured it was about time they get going. They still had some business to do in Ista, and he wanted to set out for Western before the end of the night. The one or two others that had come with them to shore were already waiting by the boats. It seemed most of them had not impressed, though they still looked to be in high spirits. They were just missing the kid.

He looked around again, spotting him quickly even through the crowds. He'd seen Finbar looking at the white before. That didn't surprise him. The kid always loved the things. He'd probably be all over Ianath and the others back home, if he wasn't always too shy to ask. But he hadn't noticed him talking to the rider before. Oh? That was rare. Despite the woman's tiny size and the apparent friendliness of their conversation, he still felt a little pang of protectiveness as he headed over.

He put a hand on Finbar's shoulder briefly, his other arm still helping to support the lump in his shirt. "Hey. I see you got one too.. Everything alright here?" he asked, glancing at Camriel cautiously.
Finbar nodded silently. Shifting the brown into the crook of one arm, he lifted a finger to point at the rider. "This is... Uh.." He blinked at Camriel blankly. Knowing Fin, he'd probably never bothered to ask her name. He looked back at Cal with an unconcerned shrug. "Well, the dragon's Kith." he said. That sounded about right.

"I guess you could say somewhat like queens," Camriel answered with a laugh. If it was up to her, all whites would be treated like queens but the world sadly didn't always agree. "In that they're rare, yes. But I guess a lot of people think they're not necessarily rare in the good way. Some people think they'd be better off not hatching if they aren't developed properly. But we like to prove those people wrong, don't we?"

She looked at Kith proudly, hands propped on her hips, and the white dragon seemed to grin back in response, ever ready to take on the whole world.

"She's great at fishing. Anything that requires quick reflexes. She can bank and turn like no other. Sometimes it feels like gravity just doesn't apply to her." And if anyone asked, Camriel would swear up and down the weyr that she'd rather have an agile, eminently movable dragon to a big hulking brown.

"Go ahead, she won't bite," Camriel added, nodding for Finbar to go ahead and pet Kith. Then a short pause. "Not when I'm here, anyway." A sidelong, knowing glance at the dragon. "And never with malicious intent." Really, Kith just liked to play and sometimes got a little too rowdy.

And then, with the newcomer, she seemed to remember her manners and held out her hand. "Oh, I'm sorry, my name is Camriel," she said to both Finbar and Cal with a wide grin. "You know Kith. And our new buddy Kin." The little blue firelizard, noticing yet another one of his siblings, tried to stretch himself out even bigger and chirred possessively from atop Camriel's head.

A quote mostly for the sake of letting you know of acknowledgement xD Woo, first chance to post! o/

Watching the others, Jacomus was momentarily distracted. If he'd kept paying more attention to the people around him, and the flits they'd attracted, he would have missed the little blue until it'd clawed its way up his wherhide leggings. It was Kraketh's sudden intrusion into his mind that got his attention.

You have company.

Looking down, Jacomus let out a surprised sound. There on the ground, crawling closer instead of flying, was a little blue flit. And small he was, even from a distance appearing smaller than the others. Crouching down, Jacomus offered the dried meat.

Still bugling pitifully, the blue flit climbed onto the hand and arm and snatched at the food. Wonderful food! His tiny taste buds, still having not tasted anything besides, perhaps, the inside of his shell, were alight, and he emanated delight as he scarfed it down. Tiny tongue flicking out to lick at the tastes left over, he sniffed for more, before turning his faceted eyes up to the four-limb who'd fed him. Across a bond that had been sealed, he projected the image of the food, tilting his head to the side. Was there more?

Laughing as he fed the flit, Jacomus turned back to Kraketh, "Look at that, made a friend!"

Can it even fly?

"He's not an it, Kraketh." He scratched the flit behind one of his horns, smiling as the tiny creature tilted his head into the motion. "You like that, don't you? Kraketh's favorite spot, too." Behind him, he heard the dragon huff disagreeably. He looked around at everybody, noting how distracted they were. His fingers itched to pick some pockets, but he resisted. Perhaps it'd have been best to get back to the ship. He had to, too, contemplate what to name the little flit. Something dignified that wouldn't seem like a covert insult to a dragon.

He was suddenly distracted by the flit, clearly learning fast, poking his nose into the pouch Jacomus kept his dried meat in. "Get out of there, you silly fish!" The flit raised his head, looking at Jacomus in confusion as he swallowed down a new mouthful. "I'll have to show you a fish some time... Fish."

Licking his tiny maw, Fish climbed up to perch on Jacomus' shoulder. He stretched his wings out, testing them momentarily, before folding them again. He'd go flying another time. Maybe. The spines along his head and upper neck stood as he lifted his head, watching everybody from the high vantage point the shoulder offered. His clutchsiblings had all found people, one of his clutchsisters hiding in a secondskin. Letting out a bugle, he called to his clutchsiblings, as if he knew many of them wouldn't see each other for a long time.

Chayrel had been about to suggest trying to move closer when the little green purposefully made her way near. His brows knit as he watched the little creature snub his meatroll, and all but jump into the bowl of meat his friend offered. The jealousy that struck him was swift and sharp.

"Well." Anything else he said didn't quite survive long enough to slip from his tongue. He grimaced and set his meatroll aside. There was no sense keeping it, especially as it looked like the last of the little firelizards had Impressed. Oh well. "Looks like this one picked you out 'specially," he commented, looking between the little critter and his friend.

He forced a smile, trying hard to be genuine and sincere. "Guess it'll be good practice for Impressin' a dragon," he added with a nod, not really sure what all to say. A glance around the crowd and he couldn't hep but feel like everyone had walked away with a little critter except him. It wasn't true -- there were a fair number who had no such luck -- but disappointment skewed his view some. Fehral did deserve the little creature, though; he'd been far too sweet and nice to not have drawn one over. Chayrel couldn't help but think maybe he was just too prickly.

"Any idea what to name it, er, her?"

"Why, she's nothing but a little baby," Fehral said as the flitter clambered into his bowl with plaintive creels. Poor little thing. He scooped her up to better feed her, trying to assure the dainty green firelizard that she had come to the right place. The baby needed to be fed, but not to gorge as she seemed inclined to do. "A greedy baby, but a baby all the same." At his words, the flit gave a little cheep, sitting up slightly to regard him with whirling eyes.

Huh. "... I think I might've accidentally named her." Baby, eh? Well, she was certainly that, the little darling! He was beside himself with delight, and could not help but beam at his friend. "Isn't she just the sweetest thing?" If he was being thoughtless it certainly wasn't intended. He was just so pleased at the sudden intrusion of firelizard into his life. "There now, you've had plenty, Baby." She gave a disagreeable noise and dove back into the bowl for more.

Oh dear.

Finbar nodded silently. He thought he kind of got what she was saying.. Though in truth, he didn't know much about dragons outside of the ones that hatched beside their island. He did remember a pure white canine that had been born to an all black litter, and wondered if that was something similar.. It too had been smaller than most of its siblings, and he remembered someone saying they should drown it. From what he recalled, the canine had a number of health problems too, though he certainly hoped that wasn't true of white dragons as well.

He hesitated at first when Camriel gave him permission, but his fussy lump of brown firelizard seemed to have calmed down somewhat, and was dozing comfortably in his arm, more or less unaware of what he was doing. He reached out a hand and ran it along the side of Kith's neck. It felt very much like any dragon hide, which really shouldn't have surprised him, though he was imagining something different. He moved his hand to stroke her eyeridge like Neri's dragon liked him too, then quickly stopped before Squall got fussy again.

---

"Ah, nice to meet you Camriel. I'm Cal." he said, shaking her hand. He gave his fellow sailor a short elbow in the ribs, distracting his attention from the dragon momentarily. "And this here is Finbar, if he forgot to mention it." he added, which he had. "Oh, I see one found you as well." he said, leaning in to look at 'Kin' right before he puffed up and chirred at him. Though Cal merely pulled his head back and chuckled, his timid green did not respond so well to her sibling's display, skuttling around to his back and clinging to his shoulder, only her small green nose a forked tongue poking out of the back of his shirt. "Err.. Though mine seems to be hiding right now." he added.
