It wasn't early morning anymore, but the sun had still not reached it's peak over pride rock signalling the middle of the day. Mwujuzi had been up early that day. Her mind had drifted early on to thoughts of her past, her previous home, her cubs, and she had spent most of that morning wandering around, reminiscing.

She had no regrets though, she was happy with how things had played out in her life so far, and she was open to the next chapter, whatever it might be. She had found the Pridelands to be a wonderful home, full of lions and lionesses and all manner of other creatures. She felt comfortable here, and although she occasionally missed the wetter climate of her home, she did not long to return.

The golden lioness planted herself under a small tree, it's branches casting a dappled shade on the grass below and stretched herself out. She contemplated what else she might do with her day. Go and play with the cubs perhaps, or maybe head out with a hunting party to bring back food for the lands.

Stretching himself out, the red-maned lion finally emerged from the den he shared with his father who had long sense gotten up and to work. It was hard to know when to get up when you were a very sound sleeper and in the darkest corner of your den to avoid the sun on purpose. More than likely his father didn't want to wake him up.

Either way, he got a late start and headed immediately for the water. However, upon his way he spotted a lioness planted under a tree and he stopped. So far, Xai wasn't here, which meant she was out getting herself some late breakfast (she probably got a late start, too) and it would be awkward to communicate with her without the bird.

His brows knit, but his blue eyes stayed focused.

So slowly he approached her. He let out a little noise of greeting and offered a sort of bright smile. Hopefully enough to signal he was friendly.

The red tufted lion brought Mwujuzi out of her thoughts. He was one she hadn't seen before, but that wasn't unusual. The Pridelands were home to a large number of lions and so she was accustomed to meeting new members on a somewhat regular basis.

She smiled in return, her teal eyes turning into half-moons as she did.

"Greetings," she called as he approached, raising herself from the ground to greet him in a more polite way than remaining sprawled on the grass.

Eyes on the other's mouth, he read her lips and then gave her a little bit of a smile. Wyconda then scanned the sky for his bird, but she was no where to be seen, still. So, he licked his lips and gave her an inquiring look, trying to ask how her day was going.

This was really hard. Not even his dad was around. So he tried again, coupling the look with a little inquisitive noise.

Mwujuzi watched as the other tried to communicate, perhaps he wasn't much of a talker, which was fine with her, she was happy to talk, or to not. The golden lioness smiled at the male.

"Not much of a talker? That's okay," she nodded in assurance.

"I'm Mwujuzi," once introduced she sat herself back down and gave him another look over. She definitely hadn't seen him before, and she would be shocked if she had, his red mane was enough to make him stand out from most crowds of lions.

She blinked her teal eyes before looking towards the borders of the pride. "Do you think we should head out and see if we can find any food for the rest?" She was a competent huntress, and the pride was large so there was nearly always reason for needing food.

With a shocked surprise a bird swooped down and struggled to land on Wyconda's head, her talons catching his mane and tugging painfully before she settled between his ears.

"There you are!" She said, looking at him upside down. "You honestly shouldn't just leave if I'm not there. Everyone's going to think you're crazy or something." Clearly this bird hadn't taken in the whole situation, even as she started to pull some loose fur out of his mane. Grooming him for now. "You're a mess, Wyconda."

The lion's blue eyes had shut when she landed and stayed shut until the nagging had died down some and then shook his head to get her attention.

"What?" She snapped and then looked up to a female and blinked. "...Oh hi."

Mwujuzi was a little bit surprised to see the bird swoop down to them. She had seen others with companions like these but had never interacted with one. She watched it land on the lions head and start fussing. She supposed they had been friends for some time. But at least she had learned the name of the grey lion, Wyconda.

The matter of food forgotten for now, she was curious about the bird and it's relationship with the lion. He didn't speak to it either, she noted.

"Hello," she replied with a smile to the avian. "I'm Mwujuzi, nice to meet a feathered friend!"

"He's very quiet, your friend. Not that that matters of course."

Remembering she'd learned his name, she turned her attention back to him, "It's nice to meet you too, Wyconda."

"Oh Wyconda?" The bird fluffed up and looked down at the lion under her claws. "He's deaf. He doesn't talk at all." She fussed with his mane some more before finally settling there. However, once fully settled, she was flung off when Wyconda shook himself and gave her a pointed look.

"Okay, okay! I get it." She looked over at the lioness. "I'm... his translator, basically. My name is Xai." She ruffled her now dusty feathers and threw a dirty look toward the red maned lion.

Wyconda looked a little sheepish and then looked back at the golden lioness like he was excepting her to talk to Xai already and automatically.
