[SRP] Plants [Rahisi x Jua] WC: 1253

[Rahisi x Jua adventure up the old path together. They find some sweet smelling plants and take a risk they don't realize might be one of their last.]

Curiosity, she had been told, would be the death of her - even so she found herself wandering the mountainside and since her last encounter she'd dare not do it alone. So in tow she had brought one of her sons - a twin to another. She cherished the time they got to spend together and this was no different. "You've started to grow into such a fine young lion." She said, trying to find something to speak about with Jua, eventually he'd take over, he'd always been adventurous - during his youth she recalled putting a stop to shenanigans that Rahisi was sure he'd talked his sister into. At her statement he looked to her with a smile and eve nudged against her. The action reminded her of when he was younger.

"Oh, look at these." She remarked, as they came across plants that had been picked before, but rarely used. If she recalled correctly they had a sweet taste to them. They were something she'd had an interest in experimenting with and though she wanted to taste test the pieces she took she decided against it for the moment and instead plucked some of what they had found before leading Jua quite a bit further. "Since coming out of the mountain we've found so much, the flavors of our meals have changed thanks to plenty of these plants here." She said to her son, playing at educating him. Throughout his life he'd tasted some of the meals made, rather than just getting a piece of meat his mother had gone to great lengths to 'season' various things, including their water on occasion. Perhaps a bizarre lioness, but he'd seen others come in and out to collect some of these plants for their own use as some of them provided medical properties - or so he had heard rumor.

Her deep brown eyes played across a number of lovely flowers that she'd collected and discovered their use as dyes. It was during her first few weeks out of the mountain that she realized how primitive the pride as a whole was, they weren't incapable, but there was plenty outside of the wall that would help over time, she was sure of it.

The young adolescent was collected by his mother with little choice, she needed a chaperone, or at least that was what his father had told him a moon ago. When he had become of age to go on his own he'd found himself with his curious mother more than he cared to say - which often meant he saw parts of the prides lands that he anticipated were meant to be kept secret.. or just particularly not traveled. Warnings never stopped his mother, no matter how far she ended up going the last time.

"Thank you, Mom." He said, mustering a smile for her polite and courteous words. They were flattery that he had anticipated form her. Truth be told, as a cub he thought the world of her, as an adolescent nearing adulthood he saw her for a possible lunatic. She didn't bout sporadic words, no he'd seen that before, she was a unique kind. Preferring time away and cherishing the space surrounding the pride itself. Some good came of her previous actions - even Jua found joy in some of the drinks that were concocted from plants she'd harvested herself. The pride was beginning to form trust in the lush plant life they encountered, unfortunately his mother took that to extremes at times. "Perhaps we shouldn't keep touching plants we know nothing about." He stated plainly, concern had faded eons ago.

With his statement he received a look, that look.. the one that told him he shouldn't have said what he said - there was sheer defiance in his future, he just hoped that it wasn't to late for his mother, that she'd be lucky all of her life.

This wasn't her first rodeo! Rahisi was catching on to her mates plans, he'd given her own children instructions and she wasn't at all happy about it - sure she went along with it, but there was no arguing with that lion. On the other paw she was the parent here, not Jua, so she being the adult between the pair of them decided it was up to her to make the choices.

"Here, try this." She plucked free some of a plant that she knew to be sweet and had chosen to add it to some of her drinks. The sweetness didn't work quite so well with meats, but there were a number of individuals who already claimed her drinks were ideal - they seemed to want more and more, claiming they felt as though they were bone dry and needed a drink. Peculiar. "What do you think?" She inquired as she watched him scrunch up his nose and chew away at something that clearly wasn't as sweet as it could have been.

To test the batch of plants they had discovered she selected a much thicker piece of the plant and immediately popped it into her mouth before carrying on. She bit into the plant fiber and it was met with an incredible sensation all throughout her mouth, besides that she tasted the regular sweetness, just with a bite. "Nothing to make a.." She paused and breathed lightly, took a second to swallow and then began again. "Nothing.. Nothing to make a face about." She said, muttering to herself more so than actually saying it for him to hear.

She stood still, not really reacting to much of anything, but not yet collapsed. She felt a little light headed and even numb - when she blinked her eyes went in and out of focus. "What's happening Jua?" She asked, a little bit of fear causing her voice to tremble. A couple pitter patters of her heart and then all went black, but she could still feel - "Jua?" The orange lioness felt breathless as panic began to settle in.

Defiance, curiosity - these two things weren't uncommon in some of the younger and more pushy individuals. His mother was no different and to prove it she popped plants in both of their mouths to which his first reaction was to chew, but quickly he thought on it and spit the darn thing out.

Before he could tell her to do the same and that they should go home he witnessed what he had hoped could have been avoided. First her speech began to deteriorate, which he thought was a prank. Jua would be eating his thoughts as he watched his mother visibly weaken - she'd done it. "Mom?" He asked, trying to keep his tone calm and collected as this was no time to panic - though when her tone swapped and dark brown eyes couldn't seem to see him he had to work hard at keeping level headed. "Mom - I'm going to go and get Dad, why don't you lie down?" At this point his voice trembled and as he moved forward to his mother she appeared to just fold before him. He predicted that although things were beginning to effect her quickly, that the fall was more due to fear and the paralyzing effects it could have.

"Okay Mom?" He repeated, raising and resting a paw on her cheek briefly before helping her to roll to her side. Her breathing was becoming rapid and eyes had fluttered closed. At this rate he feared she might have a heart attack before any form of toxins could get to her heart.
