Name: S'kal (Once was Sureshkal) Age: 37 Sex: Male Sexual Orientation: Gay Weyr: Originally Impressed at High Reaches Weyr Rider Rank: Guard at Nabol Hold Previous Rank/Craft: Son of a tailor. Physical Description: S'kal would have been considered classically handsome if he maybe smiled once in a while. Tall at 6.4ft he is muscular but lean, almost gaunt, in the manner of someone who doesn't always get three square meals a day. Hair grown long from lack of care rather than any sense of fashion is a dark brown like milky coffee and reaches the back of his collar, though if usually pulled back in a leather tie. Amber eyes flash warily and are usually shadowed by dark brows drawn low in a perpetual frown. His strong (some say stubborn) jaw is covered by a scruffy yet trimmed beard, it being clipped more than his hair for practicality. Personality: S'kal is a loner, hard edged and typically hostile to people. Dragons and flits, and any other critter than runs across his path, are treated with a little more compassion, insofar as the bitter Rider can manage. He will feed and water any beast that requires his intervention and even care for their injuries. Perfectly content to be considered 'that grumpy man on the mountain' he does little to alter the hold's opinion of him. Wishing only to be left alone on his mountain with Goranth. S'kal has lived a fairly hard life, including the death of several family members and his partner, who suicided after the death of his dragon. Goranth is the only one he trusts at all these days, and the only one he really speaks to. As such his interaction with the hold is limited, and anything that can be done through trade and proxy, is. As a result he has no real contact with the holders and has no attachment to Nabol Hold aside from what he is paid for guarding the place. He takes the bribes from the Lord Holder because, why not? And he doesn’t interfere with the hold because he refuses to care for those poor saps in the mines. He wasn't always so callus, but life has been hard and he has become hard because of it. He accepted Gansley's offer to join the Nabol hold as a way to get out from under the control of the weyrs and away from the other dragonriders who knew his history. Known as selfish and cold, his bitterness and anger hide a wounded man beneath. Positive Trait List Loyal, Brave, Independent. Negative Trait List Selfish, Violent, Stubborn. History: Originally from High Reaches, S'kal was taken from his home hold during a Search. Always a contrary child he had been thrilled at the chance to become a dragon rider and escape the life of his parents. However, he found High Reaches to be militaristic and was constantly getting into trouble. Several of the older riders had tried to get him kicked out as a troublemaker, claiming him unsuitable as a candadate, but others had stuck up for the boy. Seeing in him the same thing that the original dragon had done during the Search. Soon enough he Impressed a brown hatchling and started training in earnest where he proved to be an incredibly skilled but reckless rider who couldn't seem to stay in formation and instead would instigate races and other daredevil acts of stupidity. His behaviour did not become a true problem however until word came to the weyr that Sureshkal's mother and younger brother had been killed. While no one would ever outright speak of what happened, Sureshkal found out that an older rider of a bronze called H'ket, that S'kal had clashed with on many occassions, had been missing from the Weyr the same day the accident had happened. Convinced that H'ket was responsible for the 'accident' and had covered his tracks, S'kal challenged H'ket, naming him a murderer. This led to disciplinary action where S'kal was charged with misconduct and slander. Furious and feeling deeply betrayed by those he had pledged to, S'kal escaped with Goranth and fled the Weyr. He and Goranth moved around after that, eventually landing at Western weyr which was where he met his partner C'arth. After the blue rider's death, S'kal moved on again, never truly settling anywhere until the job offer at Nabol Hold.
