Beliefs ::

Overall, the pack hates pointless wars. Though one section of the pack is focused on fighting for others, they will demand some kind of payment for this - they don't do it for free, or simply for enjoyment. Some Mercenaries do rather enjoy their job, but they realize the whole point is to eventually make peace.

Mediators -- This section of the pack firmly believes that talking things out is the solution, for the most part. Even if some kind of fighting is already going on, they will try to talk to whoever the leaders are for both sides of the issue and work out a compromise. Once the Mercenaries have been called in, the Mediators of the pack always back off. It's pointless for both sides of the pack to work against each other, though the Mediators see this as something of a defeat, they will never contest the Mercenaries being hired.

Mercenaries -- These dogs believe that if one side of any fight has enough strength, they can beat the other side, and peace will return to the group. They aim to be that strength. In any conflict, if one side contacts the Mercenaries and hires them, they will be totally loyal to that side until the end. If the Mediators manage to solve something peacefully, the Mercenaries are often disappointed because they don't get to do anything. But they never hold it against their counterparts - since the overall goal is peace, in whatever way it can be attained.

Religion ::

The following gods play a major part in the worship of the Tutafanya:
Balance
Hope
Justice
Loyalty
Oaths
Patience
Peace
Strategy
Strength
Truth
Wisdom
Words

Traditions ::

Observation -- Before entering the lands of any other group, the Tutafanya will observe the group for as long as possible to find the best way to approach them. If the group appears totally hostile to canines in general or dogs in specific, they will never go in unless invited.

Prayer -- Whenever the pack does decide to help another group - either by mediation or fighting, they will always gather to pray to the gods. These prayers take place over a day and a night, and each dog may choose to pray to whichever god(s) they feel a stronger connection to. At sunrise after the night of prayer, all the dogs will gather in one place to pray for a few moments to the god of Peace. Then they will leave to enter the lands of the group they are helping. If the situation is some kind of emergency and there isn't time to do the full day and night of prayer, the dogs will always at least chant some kind of prayer to the god of Peace on the way to wherever they are going.

Breaking Faith -- If any group that hires the Mercenaries refuses to pay them, the Mercenaries will turn upon the ones who hired them and attack them. These terms are made clear at the beginning of any arrangement.

Charity -- The Mercenaries do not often work without being paid - for while they're fighting, they have little to no time to hunt for themselves. However, they can sometimes be convinced to work for free - but often only by the Mediators of their own pack. These cases are quite rare, since the Mediators will almost never agree that fighting is the way to go.

Talking is Free - The Mediators generally do not demand any payment for their services. They will accept it if such is offered, but it's not required. Usually, the Mediators still have plenty of time to hunt and see to their own needs when trying to talk something out with conflicting factions.

Mating -- The pack has no real problem with flings outside of mated pairs, though they do celebrate when a pair decides to stay together for life. The pack as a whole has no issues with same-sex pairings, though there are always those who will disagree with such things. Same-sex pairs are, however, often encouraged to help out with the pups of large families - or even have one in the pair have pups with another dog for the pair to raise. This helps to keep the pack's member count high, so they can be strong.

Pups -- Pups are not tied into the rank of either parent. Each pup is encouraged to choose a direction for their own life and train for that rank as an adult. Though a parent may sometimes be disappointed about a pup's choice, the rules of the pack do not allow parents to dictate the lives of their children. Of course, this sometimes happens anyway - but if a pup were to tell someone in authority that it was going on, the pup would be taken from their parents to be raised by others.

Specific Mediator Traditions/Guidelines:
- Talk, don't fight
- Always be polite - it will get you farther than being rude
- Respect the traditions of others
- Try to never intentionally put yourself in danger
- If there is the chance danger, stay with your Guard and listen to their advice

Specific Mercenary Traditions/Guidelines:
- Keep up your strength - eat before fighting
- Pay attention to your surroundings
- Never go into a situation alone
- No payment, no fighting
- Don't ever lose your head - remember what you're fighting for

Outsiders ::

Wild dogs not of the pack are usually met at the borders of the Headquarters and asked what their business is. If they're interested in the pack, they are allowed to visit for a short period of time. After this time, if they haven't decided to join the pack, they are politely (or sometimes not so politely - if they have caused some kind of trouble) escorted out. The pack can't provide for someone who doesn't join them and help out. If members of the pack meet other dogs outside the pack lands, there isn't really a specific way they're supposed to treat them. They can do whatever they want as individuals. However, the pack's general views would frown upon something like starting fights just for the heck of it, and the like.

Familiars ::

Familiars are always a welcome addition to the pack. They can help to support the pack in a variety of ways. IC'ly, any animal that is a familiar would have some sort of small item or marking so that they are not mistaken for food. If it's not possible to actually get an item or marking for their official art from the shop, whatever it is should be made clear in their member information.

Non-Dogs ::

Felines are not allowed inside the pack's lands at all. They can come to the borders to talk to the pack, or hire them for something. But they are not allowed inside, and they can never join the pack. Hyenas are VERY rarely allowed inside the lands, and even more rarely, a hyena may be allowed to join in some kind of support role.

Headquarters ::

The lands of the pack are called the Headquarters. This is where the pack stays when they're not out on various missions and jobs. Any elders of the pack live here, as well as nursing mothers and pups. Almost all of the dogs holding supporting ranks also stay here, with a few exceptions. The Headquarters are located on a large grassy plain leading up to the foothills of a mountain range in the distance. Trees dot the plain here and there, providing a bit of shade. Most of the pack's dens are up in the foothills. Any outsiders who are staying in the lands for a short period of time are not allowed to go any closer to the dens than the edge of the plains.

Ranks ::

Higher Ranks:

  • Elder (unlimited) - These dogs have retired from whatever their previous ranks might have been, and now help to manage the affairs of Headquarters and watch over those who stay there. They are usually wise and older dogs, and are often asked by the Head Mediators and/or Mercenaries to become Elders.

  • Head Mediator (2-6) - These dogs head up the Mediators section of the pack. There are never less than two, and never more than six, though some in between number is the norm. The position is not tied to blood, but to skill. Any dog wishing to become a Head Mediator (if there is an opening for one) must petition the Elders with a group of at least five other Mediators to vouch for them.

  • Head Mercenary (2-6) - These dogs head up the Mercenaries section of the pack. There are never less than two, and never more than six, though some in between number is the norm. The position is not tied to blood, but to skill. Any dog wishing to become a Head Mercenary (if there is an opening for one) must petition the Elders with a group of at least five other Mercenaries to vouch for them.

  • Team Leader (unlimited) - These dogs lead teams of Mercenaries. Generally, a Team Leader will be chosen by a particular group of Mercenaries. The group needs to be able to trust their Leader to make good decisions and lead them into battle. Team Leaders answer to the Head Mercenaries.

  • Negotiator (unlimited) - These dogs stay within the pack lands and negotiate the terms for any hiring of the pack members. Usually, the Mercenaries are the ones hired, but sometimes the Mediators are as well.

General Ranks:

  • Mediator: (unlimited) - The bulk of the Mediators are dogs, but sometimes a familiar will also hold this rank - though not often. If a familiar wanted to go into this rank, they'd have to convince the Head Mediators and Elders they were dedicated and could do the job. The Mediators are the diplomats of the pack. They try their best to solve problems through talking to opposing parties and reaching a compromise of some kind.

  • Mercenary: (unlimited) - The bulk of the Mercenaries are dogs, though sometimes specific familiars may also hold this rank. The only familiars allowed to be Mercenaries are: birds of prey, jackals, servals, and maned wolves. Still, any familiar being a Mercenary is rare, as they would have to convince the Head Mercenaries and Elders that they could keep up with the dogs on a battlefield. The Mercenaries are the fighters of the pack. They go where they are called, and are paid to join a specific side in a conflict and swell the ranks of that side. They will fight until the end of a conflict, or until they are no longer paid - whichever comes first. If a conflict is over, they will leave if they are being paid. Their job is not to be muscle for show, their job is to fight.

  • Apprentice (unlimited) - The Cubs and Adolescents of the pack. At these stages in their lives, dogs are expected to choose an adult rank and go to training with a Trainer for part of the day. Cubs spend much less time training and still have opportunity to play. Adolescents, however, spend more and more time training as they get older, until they go into their adult ranks.

Support Ranks:

  • Hunter (unlimited) - Everyone has to eat! These dogs provide the food for the pack within the pack lands primarily. Sometimes, one or two might travel along with the Mediators or Mercenaries to help out. Usually, they go home once the Mercenaries get where they're going, but they will sometimes stay with a Mediator if needed.

  • Guard (unlimited) - Even if a situation is supposed to be peaceful, things do happen. The main job of these dogs is to guard the Mediators from harm. Oftentimes, a Mercenary who has been hurt and cannot fight as well will choose to serve as a Guard.

  • Scout (unlimited) - These members of the pack are the ones who watch the lands of any group the pack is considering helping out to see what their traditions and attitudes toward dogs are. Scouts also often help out the Mercenaries in battle. Scouts can be dogs or familiars.

  • Healer (unlimited) - You need someone to patch you up when you get hurt! These members of the pack are skilled in herb-lore and caring for others who are wounded or sick. Healers can be dogs or familiars.

  • Trainer (unlimited) - These members of the pack help to train the young in whatever rank they choose as an adult. There are Trainers who specialize in specific jobs within the pride. Usually, a Trainer is someone who is retired from whatever job they are training others for. Trainers may be dogs or familiar - depending on what they're training for. Example: A ratel would not be a Trainer for a Mercenary, but could be for a Healer.

HEY GUYS LOOK an actual pack thread.... XDD

Sorry this took so long I had spotty internet for a while then forgot which pup went to which person... ahahaha sweatdrop

Anyway, here we are! I'd like to try and come up with the pack's history real quick first, and then set up the contest for the last pup. Any ideas for the history post 'em! Also, if anyone has other dogs or familiars they want to throw in here, let me know!

Also go ahead and post names & desired adult ranks for your pups so once the last one is won I can post for their certs all at once~

Hopefully we can make this official soon so we can just have them on pack certs whee
