Welcome to the the annual Turn's End Celebration!

This is an ORP that is open to everyone who can find a ride down to Tillek Hold! Invitations would have been sent out to all Lord Holders and all the Weyrs of Pern to come join in a few days of revelry. Both Western Weyr and High Reaches Weyr are invited to join in the celebration!

Weyrlings at both High Reaches and Western Weyr will not be allowed to join in the festivities. Tarot Clutch is still a bit too young, and the Spooky Clutch is definitely too little. If either group wishes to have their own little get together, they are allowed to do so at their respective Weyrs.

Obviously, not everyone has to attend the festivities! The Weyrs still have enough people there to function, though priority was likely given to individuals who did not attend the Hatching to enjoy the Turn's End celebration. So long as both Weyrs still have ample coverage, the rest are allowed to go out and mingle.

Tillek Hold is notoriously strict. They are incredibly straight laced, anti-piracy, and anti-thievery. They have many guards, many spies, and many eyes on their people. While they do expect an uptick in trouble given how many people will be attending this affair, you an best believe that trouble will be dealt with swiftly and firmly. This is common knowledge -- Tillek Hold is not a place to cause trouble because Lord Dovex is known to be very firm in his punishment, and mercy is not a word he seems to know.

Rivercrest Hold, Nabol Hold, Bitra Hold, Southern Hold, and Crom Hold were not invited -- though the crowds will be large enough that it is likely people from those Hold's will be in attendance.

The Time: This ORP takes place during the evening of Turn's End. The Gather is still going, though the night's feast is also set up, and a square cleared for dancing. There are entertainers still to be found, both on and off duty.

You are allowed to RP in this thread, as well as allowed to make PRPs that take place anytime during Turn's End and Turn's Beginning! Riders can come and go as they desire; there are large fields and heights meant for dragons to slumber, as well as open beaches -- though the wintertime water is likely a bit on the cool side.

The temperature is mild during the days -- 50s and 60s -- but the nights can dip down a bit cooler in to the 40s so it's best to wear something a bit warmer!

The days will be partly-cloudy but relatively dry.

General Summary of Events
News had gone out months ago that Tillek Hold was planning on hosting the big Turn's End Celebration. All people would be welcome to come and spend some time experiencing the great western Sea Hold -- generally speaking. Some Hold's were not invited, though it is very likely that they came anyway. The Lord of the Hold, a Master Captain named Dovex had decided that it was time for the world to ring in the new Turn of 2574 with laughter and good cheer. While many Holds and Crafts had their own form of celebration, over time it had became tradition for one of the Major Hold's to host an exceptionally extravagant party, and this Turn, Tillek Hold was rising to the occasion.

It would be the first great Turn's End party since Thread returned, and it was a tradition Dovexy hoped to continue with his fellow Lord Holders.

Captain Dovexy and his Lady Elimea made sure that the Hold was prepared to host a large and overwhelming crowd. The party would be a two-day affair, beginning at dawn on Turn's End, and lasting until the stroke of midnight on Turn's Beginning. There would be a huge Gather running both days throughout the main strip of the Hold Proper, for traders and crafters alike to sell their wares. Entertainers had been hired and placed in certain areas throughout the Gather, from circus troupes, dancers, harpers, story tellers, and actors. They were all expected to perform at various times, so the crowd had something more to do than shop. Some of the largest ships in the port were opened up to the public to tour, and of course, there were many natives happy to play guide for those who wanted to visit other areas in Tillek, or learn the history of the self-dubbed greatest Sea Hold on Pern.

At night, giant tables would be rolled out, and a large dancing square opened up to the public. There would be feasting, drinking, merry-making, and dancing. Some of the best Harpers on Pern would be hired to play music for the revelers, and dancing encouraged well into the wee hours of the morning! Those who wished to stay would find rooms and inns open at discounted and cheap rates for guests, and those who left would be welcome back the next morning to continue on the celebration.

It was evening, with the sun just beginning to set over the Sea Hold.
Lord Dovex looked out over the crowd from a window high up in the Hold Proper. He had retired to the Hold to change into clothes more suitable for feasting and dancing, and had desired to ensure his Lady Elimea had been rested from the day's Gather.

"The party is a success, my dear," the woman spoke, wrapping a fur shawl about her shoulders.

"Mm," he grunted, staring down at the giant feast within the Hold's courtyard proper. "It's easy to forget we'll be boarded up for Threadfall in a few days time." And if there was reservation in his words, it couldn't be helped. Every Fall meant having to ensure buildings shutters were put up, and that ships were in their ports; to note which ships returned in time, and which ones might be lost at sea. Every Threadfall meant wondering what strands would fall through the mighty Wings of High Reaches Weyr, and what buildings, people, and land might be destroyed by the silver stuff. Tillek was larger than it had been in the old days... and not every building had metal shutters or was built out of stone.

There was no way every building could be changed to be Thread proof, no matter how he and the Holder's tried to encourage it. It just wasn't realistic, not when Thread was promised never to return.

"You seem quiet tonight." Arms wrapped around his waist, and the man was pulled from his reverie. "Always so serious, Dov, even when you all but command your Hold to be in good spirits. Shouldn't you heed your own advice?"

The man gave a small grin, and his wife's hand a gentle pat. "I suppose it would only be fair. No, I am happy, glad to give our people something to smile about."

"Tomorrow's worries can wait. They won't be going anywhere, so at least you can do is set them aside, and enjoy the good we have here and now." Lady Elimea leaned up to give her husband a kiss on his cheek. "Now come, love. There are people to meet, feasting to be had, and dancing to enjoy. I do hope I can steal you away for at least a few dances tonight."

"Anything for you," he murmured lovingly, in a rare moment of private affection and fondness. "If a dance is what you wish, than you shall have it." For being such a serious man, at least to the public's eye, his wife had him wrapped well around her finger. She was his world, his light, his inspiration, his everything; she gave him patience, understanding, and was one of the few people who would call him out when he crossed a line.

He had been a lucky man when his parents had matched them together in marriage -- and the Hold had been all the better for it.

Lady Elimea smiled at the compliment, her eyes bright with delight. Neither were as young as they once were, and the stresses of Threadfall, and the new politics of Pern were taking their toll on both of them. Still, she knew she was a lucky woman, and her husband as handsome as ever. "Shall we, then? I'm ready if you are."

Offering the lady a bow and his arm, Lord Dovex escorted the woman out of the Hold proper and down to the Courtyard, where the music, dancing, and feasting had only just begun.

((You guys are welcome to have people dance, socialize, feast, eat, drink, or shop, among other things. There are still vendors selling goods -- they haven't closed the gather yet -- and there are still entertainers out there entertaining. You are welcome to RP in this thread or start PRPs! However your character want to celebrate, you're welcome to do so!))

Vosin and Killakeeth had been ferrying passengers the better part of the morning from Western Weyr so they'd have time to enjoy the Gather and the Turnover feast. She'd set up an area where they could wait until their turn. Although she'd made sure they knew they were responsible for catching their flight back or find some other way home from Tillek Hold.

Her last two passengers were a couple of candidates. "Marinel! Omurntas! C'mon let's go." She grinned and helped the boys mount up. It was familiar trip to her by now. Above the weyr they hung for a moment, then pitch blackness, followed by soft light of sunset at Tillek Hold. Vosin thought the hold looked mighty pretty at this time of day and from this height. I plan to have a tour of at least one boat. The ships were interesting, but she'd take dragonback any day.

I am sure they will enjoy giving you a tour Vosin. The large gold settled down onto the field she'd been using to drop off her passengers. She turned her head to watch the boys disembark. "Go and enjoy yourselves tonight. Remember to not miss the flights back!" Vos reminded them as she let them down.

The redhead made her way in a more stately manner from the gold than she usually used. Dresses were darn inconvenient things! She smoothed her long sleeve, tan dress out and blew Killakeeth a kiss. "Go watch and enjoy yourself." Oh I will. The dragon leaped up and circled over the hold. Picking a spot for the best view and simply settled herself in, forcing any dragons already there to settle to the side.

Vosin made her way across the field, then down toward the docks to get her view of the ships on display.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Omurntas was surprised and thankful for the ride to the Turnover festival in Tillek Hold. He'd never spent a Turnover anyplace but his home hold. He had a few small mark pieces that maybe he could buy himself something tonight. He bowed respectfully to the pair after he got off. "Thank you for the ride Vosin and Killakeeth. I will be here."
With that he headed off to roam the Gather. There was so much more here to see than he was use to. It took awhile to get his bearings, and he kept getting distracted by all the entertainments. There was some interesting shows on display.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Ly'bur took a leisurely approach to arriving at the Turnover feast. He was dressed nicely, but had the neck of his shirt open casually. He'd of course come with several purposes. First being to see who came and mingled with who. Second, was a thought of a little surprise for his daughter. And third, well he'd decide that later.

Hinburath had gotten himself settled on a dark ledge where he could too observe all those around him. That gold from Western is back and looks like she's finally here to stay. They made a number of trips, the brown reported to his rider as he watched Killakeeth settle herself in her chosen place.

With his blue firelizard, Haunter, perched on his shoulder, Ly'bur drifted into the crowds. Mmmmm. Western was always unconventional. Letting a gold do menial tasks. He nodded politely to those who greeted him.

Important OOC Notes:
- Vosin is offering courier service to and from Tillek Hold for everyone who doesn't have a ride. She's set up a designated space in the weyr that if you're waiting there, she'll take you. Just remember not to miss the flight back!
- Weyrlings are not allowed! Sorry kids.

Working through holidays was just another part of being a wingleader. It didn't matter to thread or to storm surges or status reports that today happened to be Turnover. As far as the inner mechanics of the Weyr were concerned, it was just another 'first of'. And this time it just happened to be V'lik and L'fer's turn to finalize the sweep assignments for the coming month before the day was up.

Finally leaning back from the table, L'fer stetched his arms behind his back. A lot more went into this than he'd ever given his wingleaders credit for. Not just wing rosters and work rotations, but weather paterns, terrain conditions, color distribution.. It was late afternoon now, and they'd been working on it since early morning. Finally, though, they'd managed to wrap it all up. His eyes shifted to the blue wingleader, grinning deviously. He wondered if V'lik even remembered what day it was.

"Alright!" he said decisively, putting his hand down on the desk and sweeping the papers away before V'lik could fuss over them anymore. "That's enough of that. I have an equally important mission, and that's to drag you away from this dark cave and ensure that you have some fun tonight." Not waiting for an answer (more likely a refusal), he pulled V'lik's chair back, patting his shoulder. "Come on. I'm not taking 'no' for an answer." he insisted. "How can we lecture our riders on the importance of work life balance if we don't lead by example?"

There's a gather going on in Tillek. Morpeth told Raith cheerfuly. My rider said 'we're not leaving without them, and you can drag him there with your teeth if you have to'. she added with a misshapen grin, sounding more excited by that prospect than anything. And she wondered why never got a weyrmate...

Sweeping through the moving bodies and towards a weyr she had never thought she would find herself wanting to spend much time in, Skylla moved with determination in each step. With the chance of relaxing at a gather at Tillek for Turnover on her mind, she knew there was one person she was not going to leave here without, well unless he absolutely told her no. Then, of course, she would stay and pester him. She was't going to let him spend Turnover by himself, that was just not going to happen.

With her mind set on these plans of action, Skylla found her way easily to D'zek's weyr. They had spent the night together during Vimiath's flight and although Neith had already been taken by his bronze, Skylla found herself feeling a bit soft for the rider as well. If this was Neith's doing more then her own, she didn't really know but she pushed it aside. Having friends was always a nice thing and if something else came from it, then so be it.

Neith, for her part, had flown from her ledge and to Jageth's, letting out a soft call to him before she landed softly on the edge, ready to take off if she was not wanted there. Happy Turnover, Jageth Her voice was soft as she spoke to the bronze, still perched tentatively.

Reaching the door, Skylla knocked on it before speaking out. "Are you in D'zek?" The woman had dressed up in her gather best, though it was still very much that of a rider. "Come on D'zek, don't try and hide behind work. Even wingseconds should get the chance to have some fun now and again."

Hope this is ok.

V'lik

Of course, doing his duties wasn't that simple. Oh no, V'lik had to check, recheck, and triple check everything. There was no way he would let anything catch them by surprise. Or that he was going to have to listen to any whiny rider's complaining about this or that. Sweeps assignments were important and kept folks alive. And, sadly, they still had some work to do before he felt fairly confident in everyone capability of fighting Thread. But maybe that was an issue he could focus on tomorrow. Except it was fresh in his mind now...

"What?" The man clearly had been lost in his own mental itinerary. "Wait I need ta-" V'lik tried to grab the papers his fellow wingleader swept out of his reach. The big man scowled at L'fer. He liked the man. Felt he was a good wingleader. Just not when he was being a sharding pain in the arse. "That is not an important mission." He instantly huffed. Did L'fer just say fun?!

Oh, lots of it, ridermine! Raith hissed in delight at the instant denials that sprang to his rider's mind. Ah, Morpeth. You're rider is a smart man. The blue dragon mused.

The scowl turned into a glower, the denial visible on his face. But, shaff the man! He did have a fair point. V'lik himself constantly tried to remind his riders of that. So, the blue wingleader crossed his arms and gave L'fer a look. "And I s'pose you expect me t'dress appropriately too?" Was there a hint of teasing in his tone?

Come, now, ridermine! Think of it as a way to keep an eye on your wingmates. So they don't do anything terrible stupid.

He could swing that. Rather than admit he let L'fer bully him in to coming. "Fine."
