Some days, he wished that his mane was longer. It was a beautiful day, the sun shining brightly down on him and causing his fur and tattoos to shimmer in the light, but honestly, all Chapa wanted to do was sleep. The heat was welcome, but he had to curl his tail around his face to keep the sun out of his eyes.

It was fine though. If there was one thing he learned from his parent's, it was how to adapt.

Speaking of, he wondered where his siblings were. There were so many, he normally would have issues getting some peace and quiet. The lion was going to take full advantage of the situation though, and soon enough, soft snores could be heard coming from him. He was curled into a tight ball, paws tucked snugly under his chin and tail fluff flopped across his nose and eyes. He probably looked quite a sight, but he wasn't one to care about how he looked to others.

“Come on Luyu, just try it a little!” A small bird broke the silence as she fluttered through past the lionesses head, she occasionally landed between the lionesses ears and sang a merry tune or cood gently. Either way she was making enough sound to disturb anyone’s sleep.

The pale lioness looked at her fluttering friend, a slightly exasperated look on her face her eyes full of worry. When she spoke she was quiet her voice barely above a whisper. “Culvour, you’re being too noisey you might be disturbing others.” It hadn’t escaped her notice as she walked that there was a young lion seemingly asleep not too far away.

She loved her avian friend but she really was very loud for a little bird. She supposed that was a good thing, she was a stark contrast after all to herself.

The bird stopped in her singing and chattering to sit upon the lionesses head once again, her gaze finally falling upon the lion. “Well he won’t mind, why don;t we talk to him, hmm?” Spreading her wings she let her small wings carry her to the young lion. His small mane told her he was young, hopefully she could convince Luyu to strike up some sort of conversation. She landed without worry on the lions head and tugged at a strand of his mane before speaking. “Young lion don’t be rude and say hello to Luyu.”

The pale dusty pink lioness frowned and wrinkled her nose in an apologetic stare “I’m sorry.” She whispers, “I hope we didn’t disturb your sleep.”

So into his dozing, the young lion hadn't noticed the pair coming up to him, nor had he really noticed the little bird's chittering. He did however notice when something landed on his head, though he didn't really react beyond an ear twitch.

It wasn't until he felt his mane getting yanked on that Chapa finally opened his eyes and tilted his head up to gaze at the brave creature who would approach a sleeping lion. Granted, even he would admit that he wasn't the most threatening person in the world, but there had to be a line somewhere that smaller prey animals wouldn't cross.

Blinking in confusion, he shifted his gaze over to the pink lioness who'd spoken. Or at least, he assumed it had been her. It was so quiet, he wasn't sure what he'd heard at first. She seemed genuinely apologetic over the actions of what he assumed was her familiar. Though honestly, between the shock of a bird landing on his head and the shy lioness next to him, he didn't think he could have gotten mad at them regardless.

Instead, the lion resigned himself to not being able to sleep quite yet, and opted for politeness. "It's fine. I was just catching a break from my family anyway."

He cocked his head, causing the little bird to fall off the side. "You're name is Luyu? Mine is Chapa." He glanced down at their feathered companion, eyebrow raised, "And who are you?"

The little bird having been topped from the male lions head quickly righted herself. She glared for the briefest of moments but soon turned her gaze to a less sour expression and after a good ruffling of her feathers she puffed out her chest and proclaimed who she was. “My Name is Culvour, and yes the lioness is Luyu, Luyu Adagaue.” She clicks her beak proudly stretching out her short wings she flits over to the lioness and lands on her head plucking gently at her hair tuft. “Don’t be shy he said it’s fine.”

The pale lioness looked at the male very apologetically, she gave a clear sigh. “It’s nice to meet you Chapa.” She managed her voice still quiet as ever, this male was clearly younger than her but he seemed so confident . She smiled gently and cleared her throat “It can be nice to take a break from your family once in a while.” She whispered though she felt very nervous about her response. What if she was crossing a line saying such a thing?

The bird tugged roughly on the lionesses fringe and cooed “Don’t be so nervous he isn’t going to eat you.” The bird rolled her eyes and gave the young male a very intense stare “Are you?”

“I know, but..but we disturbed him Culvour, he maybe wanted some peace and quiet.” She mumbled lowering her head nervously.

“Nonsense! You’re a lion, he’s a lion, you should be more social Luyu!” She looked to the young male lion and raised both brows “Don’t you thinks he should be more social Chapa, hmm? She’s a perfectly lovely lioness, don’t you think?”

Chapa gave a rumbling chuckle at the pair, "No, lion isn't really in my diet." And frankly, he never wanted to know what other lions tasted like. It'd be like eating himself.

Tilting his head, he observed them for a moment longer. Clearly, Culvour was the instigator of the two of them, and Luyu the shy voice of reason. He wondered what she was so nervous about though. He wasn't fazed by her answering comment. Seriously, his family was so large, a moment alone was rare. And supposedly, he had a lot of other siblings unaccounted for. (he internally labeled them "unaccounted for", because the last thing he wanted to do was upset his parents further)

Ears flicking up as he was addressed once more, the lion blinked, "Uhm, well, yes." He glanced down bashfully, "You are a lovely lioness." He's... never said that to a girl before, so it came out more awkward than he probably meant to. He moved on, trying to recover, "Though I can understand wanting to be in your own thoughts." He grinned cheekily, "I do that sometimes too."

He paused here, trying to think of what else to say. "So, what brings you out and about today?"

sorry for the wait!

Luyu was just about to chastise the bird once again for saying such things when the young male, who seemed to have decided he was happy for them to interrupt came back with a witty retort and then he said she was lovely. She wasn’t used to anyone saying that except for her parents and maybe her big mouthed bird so she lowered her head and flushed.

Culvour clicked her beak and chuckled, she had forced the poor youngster to say that, she knew, and it made her smile inwardly. Young males were so cute and innocent. Of course, the lioness whos head she perched upon was just as silly and sure even though she was an adult.

“I, we, hum..” the lioness mumbled before taking a deep breath and replying for herself. “I’m trying to get out more. Speak to more people.” She paused and shuffled her front paws in the dust.

“She needs to start being social!” The bird cooed. “It’s not good for a lioness in such a nice pride to spend all of her time with a bird instead of with other lions. Especially nice young gentlemen like yourself!”

The young adolescent cocked his head to the side as they spoke, and then let out a laugh at being called a gentleman. Culvour was certainly a charmer, though he had a feeling it had more to do with getting him to continue having a conversation with them. Not that he minded. They were an interesting duo, and he did like how soft-spoken the lioness was. Certainly a far cry from what he was used to.

"Well, I'm happy to have met you, so I think you've accomplished what you set out to do. I do have to agree. You should go out and make friends. Although," He started with a grin, "I'm sure Culvour makes for good company as well."

Chapa paused here, "Not that spending time to yourself is a bad thing. Sometimes you just need to recharge by yourself." He hoped that made sense.

The pale lioness gave a nod of her head. She did enjoy her alone time, though really she was never truly alone. Culvour was always there encouraging her leading her to places she felt uncomfortable in though never to any where dangerous. She could at least thank he rlucky stars that the bird was happy to take her to nice places and cared enough for her welfare that she would never be lead in to danger. She, after all, didn’t know any where but here.

“She does.” Luyu quietened shuffling her paws a little. “It is nice to meet someone new though.” She admitted, really beyond her family she didn’t socialise at all. “Hum.. Did you enjoy the sky festival this year?” The festival was something she was always pushed along to by her parents and of course by her bird but she usually spent it hiding at the edges, observing from afar. She could never pluck up enough courage to truly join in.

The bird clicked her beak in a surprised manner. For Luyu to bring up the sky festival on her own, she was glad the lioness wanted to make conversation. “I”m sure he enjoyed it and didn’t spend the whole time peering in.” She huffed. “All the new friends you could have made across all of the different clans and you spend your time observing.” The bird huffs and stretches her wings. “This girl, she needs a friend to explore with. You seem like you could be up for an adventure.” A spark lit in her eyes, clearly an idea had just rushed across her little bird brain and she wasn’t about to let it slide.

Chapa blinked and then nodded slowly, "Yeah, although..." He smiled sheepishly, "I actually did just watch from afar."

To be fair, he would have still been considered a cub at the time, albeit one on the cusp of adolescence. After speaking with Skan, he now wished he had mingled, as it would have given him the chance to talk to some of the crafters in the other clans, but... oh well.

In retrospect, he probably should have at least talked to people, but honestly? He had spent most of his time taking advantage of everyone being distracted, and scouted out the best sleeping spots. A few of those spots actually overlooked the festival, so he wasn't lying when he'd said that he'd watched, but he certainly hadn't participated.

That said, his favorite spots had been the ones overlooking the tournament, and for a very good reason. "My father was actually one of the participants in the tournament, so I mostly just watched that."

Luyu was quite surprised that he hadn’t been neck deep in the festival, though of course it wasn’t for everyone he seemed to be so friendly, she felt he must have been in the thick of it. It seemed he had spent much of his time as she though, simply watching, enjoying, not really participating. “did he do well, your father?” She queried, she was starting to feel braver and she shuffled forward a few feet. She had of course never been in the tournament and most of her family hadn’t participated, one or two of her siblings maybe but she had never seen her parents contending.

“It’s, always, a little frightening, the fights, but everyone seems to have fun.” She managed looking at her paws. She had always been much too frightened to go and participate.

The small bird clicked her beak and opened up her small wings, she fluttered from Luyu’s head to Chapa’s and plucked gently at one of his ears. “Go for a little walk with the girl, she needs a good, strong friend like you. There’s only so much encouragement a bird can give.”

Luyu frowned a little, she couldn’t hear what Culvour was saying to Chapa but she had a feeling it was going to leave her embarrassed.

His eyes sparkled at the mention, "Yeah, he did great!" He paused then, before letting out a laugh. "I think the fight did him good. He's been kind of, um.... stressed lately, with taking care of my siblings and I. I think he needed to let loose a bit." He grinned, "I usually try to make myself scarce and less demanding of him, but I have a lot of siblings, and not all of them share that sentiment."

Chapa startled when Culvour flew over to him, perching on his head, but he did nothing more than blink when the bird started poking at his ear. As he listened to the bird's words, he gave a smile. Ah, well, Chapa was never against making friends, even if it was at the expense of a good nap. It was just as well anyway - he wasn't going to get any rest with the sun so bright today.

He debated his next words, and then nodded. "Do you want to go for a walk? I could do with stretching my legs." He sighed, "And this is maybe... not the best napping spot." He clucked his tongue, "I could use help finding a better one."

The sparkle in the young males eyes at the mention that his father did well in the tournament made her smile grow at least a little wider. It was a beautiful thing, she knew, to feel so connected to your family. He was someone she could get along with, she decided, he was outgoing and sweet and didn’t mind her bossy best friend.

“I..” She trailed off glancing at the bird that was now perched in between the young lions ears. She could hardly say no really. “I would like that.” She smiled shyly getting to her paws. “I’m good at finding places to nap, out of the way..” She trailed off and flushed slightly. They were hiding places really.

“I think, I think I know the perfect place though.” She purred, she could show him one of her favourite places, it was the least she could do considering she had interrupted his nap. Plus, she definitely liked the young male. “Come, let me show you.”

The bird having founnd herself a perfect perch between the young males ears puffed her body up slightly and clicked her beak. Mission accomplished. “Onward young fellow.” She chuckled, she was certainly glad she had encouraged Luyu to come out today, she hoped this would be the start of a wonderful friendship, the kind of friendship that the pale lioness needed.
