This was it. Shindani had finally found a place that seemed interesting enough to push him to be a better fighter. A place that would keep him on his toes, and in turn he could push back without getting offended snaps back at him.

Little did he know that he had a lot to learn about this place he wanted to call home, but it would only come in due time if he won this challenge to be allowed in.

He was sizing up his opponent, ready to start once they both agreed the duel would begin.

Adeyemi wasn't much of a talker. He wasn't much of a thinker, either, but his mind was moving a mile a minute whether or not he wanted it to. Adanna's voice was bouncing around his skull, ranting about how nonchalant he was about their mother's reappearance. He cared more than he let on, of course, but that didn't mean he wanted to talk about it. So he had come to the training grounds, just to get away from the Barracks where Adanna would surely find him. He was probably due for some drill or another anyway.. and then he found a more suitable distraction. A rogue challenging for membership.

He stood opposite Shindani, idly pawing at the sand while looking the rogue up and down. He looked strong enough, and the marks on his face gave him a fierce look.. they looked almost like scars. He was distracted pondering that fact when he realized he should be paying attention. So he straightened himself up.

"You ready?"

Shindani wasn't an idiot. He was extremely self-conscious of the white streaks against his face; he had been teased as a cub for looking like his mother smacked him. He had always tried to hide them with dirt, and his mother had...sort of tried to help assure him that his mysterious father had the same markings.

He never believed it.

"I am ready," he said, feeling his voice drop with a bit of a growl. He had come to accept those markings, but it didn't mean he liked them, either.

And with that, he lunged towards the male, remembering that this was a test, and though he needed to show initiative, he needed to not lose himself, either.

Move 1/5: Glancing Blow!
Total: 2

Adeyemi grinned, a low growl rising in him as he waiting for his opponent to make the first move. They usually did, he found, but especially if you waited for them to do it. He lunged and was easily dodged (or so Adeyemi told himself, though Shindani would know he very nearly had a direct hit).. and he moved to retaliate.

They were too close together for him to lunge, he had no information to judge the odds of that being successful yet, so he lifted a paw and aimed for the face.

Those markings made a decent target.

Certainly there would be no idiots in this pride, since survival seemed to be only owned by those who knew how to fight and deal with this heat; so of course his opponent went for his face.

And though it wasn't too hard of a hit, Shindani felt the twinge of pain that went along with a scrape against his face markings.

"Shhh," he breathed, feeling his lungs expel that wasted air, only to fill again as he shifted his back legs to carry his weight as he moved to slam his forearm against Adeyemi's shoulder. Some sort of motion to stun, and not simply cut.

And he felt some contact, but not nearly what he wanted.

Move 2/5: Bide!
Total: 4

He missed but he kept moving, which was lucky because he was perfectly positioned for Shindani's shove to knock him off balance. Already on his way to getting all four paws back on the ground, he stumbled at the blow but stayed upright.

Already he determined two things. His opponent was not easy to hit, but he couldn't get an easy hit in either. Rather than continue the pitiful slap fight they were having, he used his momentum to put some distance between them and start circling around to look for a better opening.

This was not going well at all.

This was mainly just a puff match; which one could show he was the bigger fighter until perhaps someone laid a blow? At the moment, neither one was doing a very good job; its not like there was any potential mates to impress.

This was stupid.

Shindani took the moment of withdrawl to set himself up straight, mentally, and mimicked Adeyemi's pacing moments, looking for the challenging opponent to offer some sort of opening...something. Anything.

Move 3/5: Glancing Blow!
Total: 6

When Shindani fell in line opposite him, Adeyemi only waited a couple seconds before reacting. They both knew they weren't getting in any good hits yet and they were both recalculating. Adeyemi wasn't much of a thinker so to compensate he was a doer. Even without a plan, trying something might keep his opponent from coming up with a significant weakness to exploit. So this time he lunged for Shindani.. and almost landed a hit.

And thankfully Shindani was quick enough to dodge the hit. It seemed like this was going to be a stalemate, so what better way to break it than throw everything he had at it?

He felt his hind legs tense up as he gathered up his strength...lunged foward to grab at Adeyemi. The intent was to pull him down on the ground and force the wind out of him.

But instead, Shindani completely failed, and ended up missing everything, hard crashing on the ground and feeling the wind knocked out of his lungs.

Great job.

Move 4/5: Hit!
Total: 9

Adeyemi missed but again, he kept moving so he'd be a harder target for retaliation. Unlike the last time, it worked a little too well- or Shindani got a little too deep into his own head- and before he knew what was happening, the dark rogue was laying on the ground.

It was almost definitely the sand to blame for that, it could be hard terrain to get used to even if the training grounds were generally harder ground than much of the desert. If he was more of a talker or a teacher, he might have mentioned that as he made his next move. With Shindani already on the ground, it was the perfect opportunity to try to pin him there and end their fight. It wasn't looking good for this challenger, today just wasn't going to be the day he joined the Motoujamii.

Adeyemi lunged again at his floored opponent, landing heavily and putting his weight into keeping Shindani right where he was.

Shindani was trying to break free of Adeyemi's pin, but...he wasn't able to get himself free. He struggled more, feeling his muscles strain against the force of his opponent's weight...but failed.

And so, his attempts to join the pride today had ended. His body sagged as he gave up, though only for this fight.

Move 5/5: Bide
Total: 11; Shindani: 8 ... Adeyemi wins!

As Shindani struggled to break free, failed and gave up, Adeyemi stood looming over him, grinning. He was mildly disappointed the stranger hadn't done better, this wasn't even much to make the Soldier confident that Shindani would make the cut at all..

Though he had to admit, he dodged well. There was potential in that.

He hopped off of Shindani and backed up to give him room to get back onto his feet, still smirking arrogantly.

"Better luck next time."
