They had been here for...quite some time. The adjustment wasn't too terribly hard for Kianria, if only because she had Jitokeza with her. The knowledge (or lack thereof) of what had befallen their last pride, and many of their children, had been hard on the lioness. Time was the best healer, and she had come out of it expecting the best. Her children were certainly alive; they had just found other places to live. It wasn't so different from herself striking out on her own, having no contact with her own family outside of the one she created with her mate.

The Ela'wadiyi was different, and yet not. Different customs, a bit of a different culture, but family still seemed to be the center of it all. They had a bit of family here, but the main reason they had stayed was because Jitokeza's brother was here. Granted, then he seemed to be in the center of a whirlwind....

"Jitokeza?" she whispered, nudging her mate to get his attention. Was he dozing in the soft sunlight? She chuckled, realizing that they weren't quite as young as they once were, if he could nap anywhere like this.

Twice, Jitokeza had had his life completely upended by unexpected tragedy. The only thing that had saved him from giving in completely when it happened this time was Kianira. That they were able to find another peaceful home so quickly, with his brother there with him and his sister never far away.. that was a welcome comfort, too.

And still, two major changes had struck since coming to the Ela'wadiyi. Adjusting to a nomadic lifestyle was one thing, the clan didn't move too quickly but it did always move.. in a strange way, it felt more stable than just staying in one place. There was always something to do, somewhere to go.. but the biggest change was giving in to getting old. He was older than Kianira, his fur was starting to fade.. but with his wife there beside him, he perfectly happy.

Her gentle nudge jolted him awake, and he glanced over to her with bleary eyes.

"Oh, did I fall asleep?" he murmured, "Sorry."

Now, Kianira let herself laugh a bit more out loud. "It is alright," she replied. "The sun does feel wonderful down here. Funny how the mountain isn't terribly far away from here, and yet the sun can feel so different..."

She leaned a little more into her mate, enjoying the respite she felt whenever it was just the two of them. It eased her mind, and reminded her that at the end of the day, this is what she craved for. Feeling peaceful. The downside of that is it let her mind wander....

"Have you seen Sado recently?" He was one of those that Kianria knew she could just approach and speak with, but she still felt...a bit shy around him. It was after she and Jitokeza came to live here that the divorce happened...and by how the Ela'wadiyi took it, it wasn't...something to have happen.

Jitokeza looked off toward the mountain thoughtfully but didn't say anything about it. It was different down here. To be perfectly honest, it was better down here. He had been perfectly happy on the mountain, he was happy to make a home where the spirits led them.. but it felt better on the ground. It was more stable down here, but there may have been some other factors contributing to that feeling.

"Huh?"

He looked back to Kianira when she asked about his brother, and he smiled.

"Not alone," he said, adding without thinking, "He's lucky enough to have his children with him, he almost never seems to be alone."

Even if Jitokeza wanted to help keep an eye on his recently divorced brother in the wake of the scandal, there wasn't much more he could do when he had his own little family that appeared to whole-heartedly take his side. Still, he did try.

"Ah." Kianira remembered meeting some of her nieces and nephews. Sweet children, who seemed to be well aware of how their parents were. The purple lioness didn't have the full story, and she knew she'd never get it....but it seemd that his kids made the best of their situation.

"That's true. I guess, now that you mention it....he is almost never alone." She felt a soft sigh escape her, considering the complexities of a divorce...but happy to know she'd never learn what that felt like. "But still, I'd rather be here with you, falling asleep in the warm sun. So neither one of us is ever alone, either."

She felt herself getting a little too comfortable...too sleepy...and tried to pinch her paw to keep herself awake. Maybe she wasn't quite greying in her fur yet, but the sun was rather nice...

"And now you've gotten me to start dozing off too!" she whined, giving Jitokeza a little firmer of a shove.

He didn't respond when she sweetly said she'd like to stay here in the warm sun with him, rather he smiled and allowed himself to start dozing off again- only to be given a much more startling shove.

"Sorry, sorry, I'm awake!" he said, and then immediately yawned.

He was ready to doze right off again so he started stretching out his front legs, and eventually deciding to sit himself up. He stayed close to Kianira's side, of course, but sitting upright he knew he was less likely to fall asleep.

"If a nap is out of the question," Jitokeza asked, thoughtfully, "Then what should we do on this lovely sunny afternoon?"

Kianira pulled herself up as well, determined to not let herself get too comfortable again. There were still some things that they could get done today...

"Well, we could go find our son and check in on him..." Kianira let her claws shift, feeling the soft dirt between her toes. "Or we could find our overworked nephew Ukahada and see if his hair has fallen out yet." Kianira chuckled a bit, though it was a mixture of amusement and worry. Sado's divorce had certainly seemed to shame the family, let alone with Wolf Clan. That boy put too much onto himself, with no one around to help share that burden. Perhaps his sister, but it seemed like an alu'nadi's duties different from a nvwati.

"Oorrrr we could just wander around, just the two of us! At least for the rest of the day." The Ela'wadiyi lands were so peaceful, so quiet....she felt so safe within their borders.

"Hmmmm," he pondered for a few seconds before shrugging, "We could wander and see who we find that way."

Standing up, he finished stretching himself out and finally started to feel awake. After everything they'd been through, it was a comfort having family so close by. It wasn't their children but it was family, and that was something.

"How long before we move on?" he asked, "I'm never good at keeping track of that."

"Yes!!" Kianira loved to just wander around. It was an easy way to connect with clanmates, and make new friends with those they weren't as familiar with yet. Plus...she enjoyed walking. The Ela'wadiyi was relatively flat in the valley, and it made it easier to just let her paws carry her wherever she went.

"I think we're migrating again the day after tomorrow, so we still have some time to enjoy our current location," she grinned. Perhaps they could even come across a stream...there were usually some small flowers that seemed to grow along the water's edge. "As long as we don't get caught wandering too far..." she winked at her mate, trying to imagine the nvwati scolding them for wandering out too far...and laughed.

Being able to wander easily was yet another perk of being in the Ela'wadiyi lands. Up and down a mountain was rough, and through a swamp had its own perils and drawbacks. The lady did make a good point about getting caught wandering too far... but he wasn't even sure what would happen in that case. He chuckled along with Kianira.

"Don't worry, I'll protect you," he joked.

The purple lioness laughed and laughed when her mate mentioned protecting her. He was always there for her, and she knew it to be more true than the sun rising and setting...but she wasn't sure if he could stand up to some of their clan members with a straight face.

"Alright, I'll blame it all on you when the alu'nadi scolds us for wandering too far away!"

And with that, she loped on ahead of Jitokeza, trying to tease him into following her at a faster pace than a lazy walk. They were old, but they weren't quite that old...not yet!
