She's not really the Queen anymore. She is a Vizier/Healer of the pride these days after giving up her title. I don't have a new cert yet, mostly cause I don't remember who colored her, herpderp.

Old habits died hard. The grey coated lioness was away from the heart of the pride, taking a moment to unwind from what had been a long night, and even longer morning. The pride had welcomed some new faces to their numbers, though it had not been an easy birth. Their mother had been young, inexperienced, and small. Though labor had lasted longer than she would have liked, the cubs were healthy enough... but the joy had been marred by sadness, as the cubs father passed shortly after their arrival. Though his death was no surprise -- the sickness had ravaged him for years -- it was not easy to let loved ones go. No amount of preparing could ease the ache of grief, but she could take comfort knowing the great Goddess Pestilence finally called him away, and that he had seen his cubs faces.
His legacy lived on, and the pride would remember his spirit.

Nawiri'chiwa had comforted those that remained, had made sure the mother and her children were comfortable, before taking her leave from the den. As a Vizier, she was there to help guide the pride's royalty -- to ensure they adhered to the rules of the pride. She had given up her title in a move that had been unprecedented; by not taking on a King, by deciding to live for love instead of simply numbers, she had broken with tradition. Whether or not this had served the pride well, she didn't know, but it was what it was. Instead of sacrificing herself to the Goddess, as her mother had, she kept living, serving the pride she loved and cherished so dearly.

Maybe it was wrong of her. Maybe she had been the wrong choice. Maybe . . . she had let her mother down, had let the pride down. But it was too late for regrets. All she could do was live each day to serve. She might no longer be royalty, but her love for the well-being of each and every member was still strong.

Picking her way through the plains of the pride, over some of the gentle hills, the blue and gold eyed lioness tried to quiet her thoughts. She was tired, but sleep would not come; in the old days, with the weight of the pride on her shoulders, she had taken a daily constitutional, often along the borders. As Queen it had been thought to be unsafe -- but as a Vizier, she was simply an older grey lioness. She trusted the guards and warriors to keep their borders secure now, just as she had then.

Each stepped reminded her that she was still alive; any pain, any fever, any illness within her was currently subdued. The sun felt nice on her coat, a gentle breeze kicked off the worst of the heat, and for the most part, the pride lands looked as pretty as they ever had. Life was quiet here, but for the most part, the pride was left alone. Live and let live... Though there was sickness in their lands, there was also love. The family may not have had time together, but in the end, there had been love there.

So she walked on, tracing the borders. Who knew what the spirits might send her way? A guard? A warrior? An apothecary searching for grubs? One of their many scouts? Perhaps she'd find nothing but comfort from nature, from the elements. No matter what, Nawiri could already tell the stress from earlier was lifting. For all the sadness that could grip the pride, life carried on, as it always would.

Today was just like any other.

Ororo had been trudging along his normal stomping grounds in the Southlands, looking for an easy kill to fulfill his hunger for the next few days. He said easy, for the wound on his left shoulder made hunting difficult. He acquired it a few kills back, when he decided to tango with a young male antelope. Ororo had gotten a little cocky, and the prey beast outsmarted him, leaving the white lion with a nice battle wound, and an empty stomach.

The initial pain from the pierce had dissipated, but a few days after there was such the weirdest sensation, almost like pricks or stings every time his muscles moved. It was a little unsettling to the male, but he knew it was likely due to not cleaning it well at the time of the incident.

He was no healer, so he was sure anything he did now wouldn't help it.

Oro sighed as he walked. He had ventured away from his normal route in search of the easier game. He would even take to scavenging at this point, picking the little meat that would be left from another's meal.

The lioness spotted movement in the distance, which pulled her from her thoughts. Ears pricked, and the dual-colored eyed lioness was immediately alert. She didn't recognize him as a scout, and the way he limped along was concerning. With a flick of her tail, the grey lioness trotted forward, not at all worried or concerned. She had met many lions and lionesses back in the day, and her maternal instinct meant she worried about all who crossed her path.

The lioness made sure she stayed well within their borders, but she did begin to bridge the distance between herself and the stranger at a relatively quick pace. "Greetings, stranger," she called out, hoping to catch the others attention so as not to startle or alarm him. A gentle smile crossed her features, and she hoped he didn't spook on sight. "Are you quite all right?" Perhaps it wasn't in good form to call out his condition, but she wasn't blind.
Besides, there was no sense beating around the bush; the pride was made up of many healers, and if nothing else, a passing rogue could find himself with aid. She herself was an expert healer, and might be able to help give the lion some advice. She wouldn't be able to properly clean the wound, given her condition, but she could always find one of her fellow pride mates for care.

As a rogue, he was safe out here near the borders. She was ill, but knew which lakes and streams were safe for him to drink from, and what prey was untouched be carriers or the diseased. Though many feared their lands, so long as rules were adhered to, it was perfectly safe for those simply passing through.

Instead of expecting to find a fallen creature, Ororo was startled slightly by the voice that called out. He turned, probably a bit too quick, on his paws, coming face to face with the lioness who spoke.

"Me?" The lion looked around to make sure no other were about. "Oh. I guess I am as fine as I could be." He wished he did not have a gaping hole in his arm, but what was done was done. "It's a pain to do anything, but it's been like this for the last few days. Pretty sure it can't get much worse, right?" The lion sighed, straightening his stance to the best he could to view the female.

She seemed a bit more well kept than rogues, so he wondered if the female was from around here. "Perhaps you know of a good place where I might scavenge for food?" His first priority should have been the wound, but Oro was a male, and males tended to think with their stomach first.
