User Image“I had a dream, a fantasy, that helped through, reality.” She always sang, where ever she went she sang. That was a part of who she was. She had been born a rogue long enough ago that she had lived that life, and quite frankly had found it wanting. As a young adult she had stumbled upon the Mwezi’Johari and with a bit of luck and belief, she had woken as a lady.

This gave her a few things, for starters it meant that she didn’t really have to do anything she didn’t want to. Living the life of a lady meant she was fed and looked after and that she could spend her day simply lazing around. If she was honest this didn’t suit her, sure the being fed thing was great but just putting her paws up just wasn’t her style. This usually meant that every day without fail, she would get up and take a run to the border. Just to remind herself that she didn’t want to be out there. She loved the pride, its ways, its traditions. She loved it but the exercise kept her healthy and it gave her a little alone time away from other lions to think and compose.

She loved to sing, but what she loved even more was to sing songs she had thought up herself. Going to the border granted her time to think and inspiration.

Today for a change she was out here alone. Her ‘nanny’, the ever disapproving Hato had been left chewing the cud at one of the watering holes of the pride. She’d snuck away for a little quiet time from her friends consistant nagging about going to the border. There was no danger here this was home and there were always guards about if she needed help. What she required right now as a little inspiration to find the next line to this particular song.

Ciro was out and about on a Viking mission. He needed to stretch his legs, from being confined to the pride for so long. It really wasn't anyone's fault but his own, for he found himself siring two litters of cub at the same time. He was lucky Njia ended up helping his two daughters from Ruka, or else he didn't really know what to do.

But while the children were still young, Ciro needed to go out. It would be a shorter mission, perhaps two weeks at most. He needed to keep up with his Captain duties, so he took a small band of Reavers, with a few Freeborn in tow, and set off.

While the Reavers watched the Freeborn, the Captain wandered away, stating he would be back before sunrise.

It was during that time he heard singing. His head tilted as he followed the sound, listening to the words as he stayed as hidden as possible amongst any nearby foliage.

When he found the source of the voice, Ciro smirked. Ah, what a beautiful lady. He drew away from his hiding spot, approaching the dark marked female.

"My, you have a beautiful voice." He smiled, gazing at her. "Though, that is only expected for such a beautiful lioness."

The pale bellied lioness stopped in her tracks when someone spoke to her. She did not recognise the male of course. He was dark a shadowy stranger seemingly covered in ash. She realised, quite calmly that she had just romanticised his look in her head. She often did this when she met others at the border. After all they were part of the reason she always came. Meet new, interesting folk who didn’t reside within the confines of the pride.

His sweet words made her crack a smile, though she did not blush. Many had told her she had a beautiful singing voice. She loved to sing and she often sang during meals. She considered it a fair trade for a full belly.

Her look though, well, no one had ever really called her beautiful, always her voice, never her personally. It took her a moment to process this fact before the heat in her cheeks, luckily hidden by her dark fur, caused her gaze to falter. “Oh.. Thankyou. I do love to sing.” She commented as offhandedly as she could, her dark eyes trying to find something else to look at other than the dusky male.

It was fair to say she did not know everyone in the pride but she could tell by his scent that he was not from here, he smelled of some where far off, some where wilder perhaps? “You are not from here.” She stated as casually as she could, she felt a little nervous, her confidence that she wasn’t that far away from a guard at any time was faltering just a little and Hato wasn’t with her to race to find the nearest guard. Still, she stayed still, almost rooted to the spot. This handsome roguish individual could have attacked her already, she hadn’t been paying attention after all. Perhaps he was just here to visit, or maybe he was a lion of the Mwezi just, new, she wasn’t sure, his golden eyed gaze made her feel slightly unnerved though, she really had never been called beautiful before.

"You should," Ciro said confidently. "It would be such a waste of a talent if you didn't. Tell me, do you write your own songs, or was this just something that has been passed down to you by traditions or from family?" The Captain was normally always straight to the point with learning about others. He didn't openly ask 'Who are you', but rather dealt more in the art of putting hidden meanings in his words to benefit him for the future. It had worked many times in the past, and he sure hoped it would do the same now.

"Ah, is it that obvious?" The Captain asked with a chuckle. "Indeed I am not from here. I come from a land riddled in storms. Is this a pride territory?" He tasted the air. He should have caught the multiple smells around. It just meant he needed to be extra careful.

"I did not mean to intrude on your lands," he carefully advised. "I just was lured by the sound of your voice and well...now I am willing to accept any consequence for the trespass. A price willing to take for being able to admire such a beauty."

The dark lioness smiled gently “I like to compose my own songs. It’s usually why I come to the border. It’s a good place to think.” She tilted her head lightly, relaxing her stance ever so slightly. Not enough that she couldn’t run if she needed to but enough that her muscles weren’t all bunched up underneath her.

“You smell of a wilder place. This is the Mwezi’Johari, or should I say their border lands any way. There’s usually a patrol comes by but most are welcome here, if you abide by the great lions rules any way.” She paused, this was the only warning she really had for him but she really didn’t want to tell him any more about the pride, she wanted to know about his.

His words were so complimentary she couldn’t help but feel flattered by him, she laughed gently. “Are you always this complimentary to females you have just met?” She was very appreciative of his words of course, and if she were a little more naive she probably would have followed him off to some place unknown. She’d grown up in the rogue lands though so she wasn’t completely unaware of males in the outside world. Still, she knew if she needed to she could run, but he didn’t seem to want to attack her, he just wanted to chew the fat. That was fine by her, he was pretty handsome, she realised, though those words didn’t really leap off of her tongue.

“Tell me, about your land, is it very far from here?”

"Only the ones that mesmerize me enough to come out of my hiding position." Ciro admitted, though it was unclear or not if his words were truthful, or just a clever ploy to woo the female. Most likely it was the latter.

"Ah...indeed. Probably a few suns travel in that direction." His paw lifted to point towards the Stormborn lands location, though his description was vague. This meeting wasn't about him after all. He needed to twist it back to her.

"You said Mwezi'johari? I don't think I have heard of this land before. Great Lion? Does that mean your King or something?" Ciro had to be careful and not use the term War Lord to discuss a hierarchy system. "And...what rank are you inside this pride?" He'd get to know a little more about the pride, and the female herself.

"Oh, where are my manners. My name is Ciro," he introduced. That should unlock her name too.

Kuimba laughed a sweet, musical laugh. He was a charmer that was for sure. She smiled at him. “You’re sweet.” She rumbled, she couldn’t help but admire his charming words, his roguish smile. He knew he was handsome, which she guessed would be a problem if she wasn’t flattered by his words.

“The great lion is our deity.” She paused, she really didn’t want to disclose any more than that. Her eyes danced happily, the great lion had smiled upon her when she had joined the pride “I am a lady, though I was born a rogue, this is home now.” She paused for a moment. “The great lion smiled upon me.” The lioness purred. It was a life that suited her, she was happy to be allowed to come and go as she pleased, she was happy she could simply compose and sing all day without nay real possibilities. The thrill of the border worlds was all she really had.

Her head followed his pointing paw. “My name is Kuimba, its a pleasure to meet someone from so far away.” She purred. “Tell me about your land.” She whispers taking a step closer. “Maybe I can sing a song about your world.”

He was losing this battle on keeping the subject on herself. His pride information was a need to know basis. Right now, Kuimba did not need to know what kind of things were held within it. So he would lie. She wouldn't know the difference, right?

"A song of my lands you say?" Ciro contemplated. "Well...it's relatively small, due to the constant weather shifts there it is hard to maintain pride life. That is why I am out here. I scout for resources that may help us in the future. For things that may be useful against the water-laden land." All lies, but...perhaps Kuimba did not know . At least, he hoped she didn't. That would definitely put a damper on his position.

"A lady you say though?" He hummed thoughtfully, before bowing his head. "Well then, mi'lady. Might I escort you back home before I take my leave? A lovely lady like yourself should not be wandering by herself! And then, perhaps you could share that lovely song when we get there?"

She had never heard of such a land. It sounded sad, desolate. “It must be so difficult to live there.” She whispered, sympathy in her voice. She smiled at the dark male, her ears flickering back against her head.

“That is very kind of you Ciro. You must love your pride greatly.” She purred, he may have been lying of course, but the way he spoke made her think he was telling some sort of truth. Even if it wasn’t the whole truth.

The lioness gave a nod, her dark eyes searching the males face. “I’d be happy to show you my home.” She smiled, getting to her paws and turning her tail towards him. She may not have all the way trusted him, but creating a new song, finding inspiration, was worth a little time with the dark male with his unusual shoulder marking. He was just the kind of inspiration she needed. “Come, you are welcome here.” She chuckles gently and breaks in to a gentle run, he seemed fit and healthy, she knew he would be able to keep up with her. She wondered how long he would stay but that would be a question for later for now, she was happy to just be in his company and sing him a song of his country.

"Oh...it can be, but that's okay. We make by with what we have, and in the end it seems to work out."

When she turned away from him in agreement of him helping her home, Ciro held a small smirk. He hadn't really expected the pride lioness to be so open and welcoming within the borders, but the dark male would use it to his advantage. He chuckled softly as she ran off, his own form following closely behind. He couldn't stay long, so whatever actions he planned on doing needed to be quickly thought out. Already it was going much better than expected.

Once he heard her knew song, he would be sure to thank the lioness properly.
