Name: Sh’en
Age: 26
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Homosexual
Weyr: High Reaches Weyr
Rider Rank: Wingrider
Previous Rank/Craft: If applicable.
Physical Description:
Sh'en is a strapping young man with a muscular body, though more that of a dancer or an acrobat than a warrior. His face is slightly chubby, almost cherubic and is framed with soft white-blonde hair. His impish smile and the glitter in his grey eyes hint at a potential for mischief and fun.

He's on the short side, about 5'3, but he walks with an air of easy confidence, surprisingly graceful in his movements. He speaks with an equally easy and smooth drawl, which he does tighten up for people he respects. It is clear though, even then, that he isn't too invested in order and ritual.

When on duty Sh'en is usually armed with a simple dagger and a bow with arrows. Off duty – and when he can't get away with wearing his bow and quiver - he just wears his dagger, discretely. Sh'en prefers his clothing to be equally discrete. Even his uniform is minimally ornate, and he favors dark, soft, flexible, comfortable fabrics when he can.
Personality:
Sh'en is an impish and charming young man, with an almost perpetual spring in his step and a keen eye for both mischief and trouble. He's a chatty guy who will talk to anyone about anything, even those people that most would never want to talk to. To him, everybody has a story – from the drudge cleaning the floors to the quiet wingrider drinking mead alone in the back of the dining hall – and he can at least try to get it out of them. Sometimes, he does well and gets a story – and sometimes some good information – for his trouble. Other times, it backfires. Despite this, Sh'en remains confident in his ability to talk his way into and out of any situation, and any failures to do so are dealt with in the moment and do not seem to bother him at all.

He is an acrobat and slightly reckless, and, though he usually has a pretty good idea of his own capabilities, he is always trying out new tricks. Sh'en will go where others might not want to go, the first to leap into the abyss. His role as a scouting and reconnaissance specialist suits him well – he is the first into any situation, and he leaves it when he is ready to do so. His innate control of his own body serve him well in that capacity, but they also work well for entertaining his wingmates. He likes to think that – between his bondmate's persistent cheer, his own confident optimism, and his ability to do amazing things with his body - he helps to keep his wing's morale up.

Like his bondmate, he is pretty generally happy, or at least appears that way. He usually can come up with a quick joke or a witty phrase, and his smile is always handy. There is, however, a serious and calculating mind beneath all the mischief and jokes, and when the time calls for it, he abandons smiles and goes straight to business.

Although he is flighty at times in his personal relationships, Sh'en is extremely loyal to his wing and to those he is close to. He's gotten reprimanded for pranks more than once, he is there when he is needed. He can be counted on, certainly, to get his job done.
Positive Trait List
Perceptive: Sh'en pays attention to detail and keeps his ears open.

Loyal: Sh'en is very laid back, but he's keeping an eye out for people who he respects.

Brave: Sh'en gets serious when he has to, and is willing to ignore his own fear.

Negative Trait List
Impish: Sh'en is mischevious and a little flighty. He likes to mess around, and that can get on some serious nerves.

Chatty: Sh'en talks a lot, he talks to everyone, he trades secrets and gossip as if they were marks at the gambling tables. He doesn't keep things to himself - a secret will be passed on to the right ears. Or, if he's unlucky, the wrong one.

Relaxed: Sh'en doesn't find life particularly concerning. Fighting, romance, training, sports - he faces them all with a laid back and smiling attitude that can drive superiors up a wall. He doesn't sleep on the job, and he's actually pretty good AT his job, but his superiors have reason to believe otherwise. At least, until they get to know him.

History:

Sh'en was born Shenja in a travelling group consisting of entertainers and traders that stalked the roads of the Northern contident, carving out routes and bringing news and entertainment to large and small holds alike. Shenja himself was an acrobat from a young age, wowing people with his feats and enjoying being the center of attention.

His older sister, Diedre was learning to be an accountant but that was put on old when both Shenja and Diedre were Searched to High Reaches Weyr while camped at a Hold. Diedre had always been a wierdo in the group, fascinated with order and tradition, so she was excited to be Searched to a "real Weyr," whatever the rest of the group thought about it.

Shenja wasn't too enthused either way. Though the troupe as a whole was progressive, Shenja knew even at the age of 14 that it wouldn't be a good idea to come out about his sexuality to his sister. The weyr was open enough, but he was somewhat worried about somehow being exposed to her and losing her good graces -- something he did care about. The clutch was fairly typical. His sister had her hopes on being able to stand for a queen clutch eventually, but him? He was just curious. He wasn't really expecting anything.

So, it was a surprise when he impressed to Green Kalteth, literal ball of energy and the new light of his life. Diedre was overcome with jealousy at him Impressing (and not her) and had completely bought in to the inferiority of greens. Between her jealousy and her shame at her brother being... whatever he was... She ended up being sent home after she acted out.

That was that, and that was fine by Shenja, now Sh'en. Without her around, he felt a lot freer to be who he was. He didn't believe the prejudices against him, and didn't let any of the anti-green sentiment get him down. He knew what his partner was worth -- more than anything else, that was for sure. He didn't exert himself in his training, or as a wingrider, and ended up employed as a courier to take advantage of his natural curiousity and his bonded's speed. He didn't hear from his sister for quite some time, though he did visit his old troupe from time to time. She simply didn't want to talk to him, he left her be, and he moved on with his life.

In the early years of his dragonriding, he did what made him happy. Within the confines of being a dragonrider, he did a little gambling here and there. Even some bandit hunting, search and rescue, whatever was needed. He and Kalteth made great scouts and he ended up not being too bad at combat with the training he got at the Weyr. Life was fun.

Thread changed everything, but it also didn't change as much about Sh'en's life as one would think. 24 Turns old, Sh'en and Kalteth were adaptable. Still based in High Reaches Weyr, they were properly assembled into ??? wing. Kalteth was quick and nimble, and her and Sh'en's eyes were sharp, making her a handy lookout for their wing and very good at quick, targeted flaming.

A few turns in, Sh'en is growing to respect the higher ranks in the wing and is practicing a little harder than he used to. Otherwise, he is still relaxed, still the same old Sh'en. He is still a messenger, still finding himself in many places, meeting many people even as he also finds himself fighting Thread. Perhaps his keen eyes and ears can be helpful to the right person...

Because even when Thread is falling, other people are still dangerous.

Other: Anything else you want to add?

DRAGON
Name:Kalteth
Age: 12
Color: Green
Size: Below Average, 20'
Physical Description:
Kalteth is light green with slight mottling, lithely muscled and flexible-winged. She moves gracefully
Personality:
Kalteth is a green who is comfortable in her own skin. She doesn't clamor for attention or demand a higher status than tradition would have been willing to give her. Instead, she is completely confident in and happy with her role as a quick and agile defender of Pern. There is no room for envy in this dragon's heart, whether it be envy of rank or of the ability to clutch. She is Kalteth, she is green, and those are both awesome things to be! Why would she ever want to be anything other than what she was shelled to be? She has a difficult time understanding why some greens (or blues, or blacks, or anyone else) would resent their lot in life, and will not hesitate to discuss this with them in an effort not only to understand, but to convince them that there's nothing to be jealous of or complain about. As far as she's concerned, it is easy being green, and she loves it! The status quo – or the way it has changed these days – is not an issue to her. As long as she is doing what she loves, as long as she is happy, she is happy.

And Kalteth loves to fly. In her opinion, she was shelled to fly. From the moment her wings were large enough, she has been airborne. For her, flying is her delight and passion: from turning acrobatic tricks to racing full-speed ahead to fighting Thread - it doesn't matter what she's doing, as long as she's on the wing she is happy.

Despite being lightly built, Kalteth can stay in the air for a long time. She does this out of sincere love for what she's doing, and will draw out every last moment of exhilaration that she can out of flying before exhaustion (or Sh'en or a dragon convincing enough) can bring her back to solid ground.

Kalteth is enthusiastic about many things. Flying may be her first love, but she also thrives on social interaction. After all, what good is having fun if you don't have someone to have fun with? Preferably a lot of someones! Happy and guileless, Kalteth has a way with both people and dragons (and anything else susceptible to the charms of innocence and pure, enthusiastic cuteness), and makes friends with ease. She has no concept of self-consciousness, and will speak to anyone about anything regardless of rank or hide color. If she has something to say or a question to ask, she won't hesitate, though she never says anything with intent to offend or hurt. She is relaxed and perpetually pleasant (though not always polite), even in situations where others might become frustrated, and is unfailingly optimistic about her, the world, and life in general.

She has a persistent cheerfulness that may grate on the nerves of some. It's as though she doesn't know how to be sad, or even just ambivalent. There's always a reason to be happy, you just have to find it! She can help, if you want!

In addition to possessing a boundless energy, she is highly inquisitive as well, and always very conscious of her surroundings to the point of distractability. Nothing in her vicinity escapes her notice, which, unfortunately, is not always a good thing: Kalteth is very easily startled by unexpected noises, sudden movements, and the like. They don't frighten her exactly but they do result in a momentary distraction that completely disrupts what she was doing, and once her focus is broken, getting it back proves to be very tricky.

If she gets distracted in the middle of one of her races (or her own Flights!), well, that's that - she probably won't recover quickly enough to make a comeback. It's good, then, that she approaches all competitions as friendly ones; sure, she loves to win as much as the next dragon, but she is as gracious in defeat as she is in victory. As long as she's having fun, it's all good with Kalteth.

Please refer to this guide if you need assistance regarding what makes a negative trait a flaw. Impish, chatty, and relaxed do not qualify. I would recommend instead possibly troublesome, gossipy, and something totally different for the third flaw.

That actually wouldn't drive his superiors up the wall. Being relaxed and easy going, and working hard to accomplish what he's been tasked with would be a virtue.
