Has the Great Lion abandoned us?

Angkuh awoke suddenly to that thought fizzling out. "Impossible." He muttered to himself as he blinked away sleep from his eyes and began to raise to his paws. The striking difference between living, listlessly, in the roguelands to the structure here was astounding. He had immediately latched onto their religious practices, eagerly learning about the Great Lion. Perhaps the only past knowledge that scratched below the surface was of other gods. Surely others had an inkling of other gods existing outside of the prides single entity, but he didn't dare bring it up to anyone, not even Sifa.

When he stepped free from the den he had taken up, peered up at the eerie sky. It was black, like the dead of night, and not quite what he had expected. The piercing blues eyes had expected to see the dazzling rays of sun shining on the horizon, adjusting to beautiful purples of the night creeping up on the day. It was a reminder of the beauty shared between the two times of day, and warmed him when he looked to the sky. Now when he looked up and saw the nothingness his heart began to race.

Fortunately with the help of Sifa he was able to adopt a much livelier route to patrol. It made time pass by quickly, these nights would need that. There was no way a lion could wander on their own (for the most part) and not start to let their imagination soar. He opted not to let his get away from him as he left his dens entrance in favor of heading towards the starting path of his patrol. His duties would wait for no moon, the world was not stopping, though he did wonder briefly if it would.

"You're being foolish." He muttered to himself and broke into a light chuckle. When those thoughts were done haunting him he wondered something far more selfish, would he share the company of Sifa? Sometimes their patrols aligned and there were times where he wondered about her, and what she might be up too.

The whole pride was on edge now that the sky had gone dark, it was small comfort that the stars remained when general consensus seemed to be that they didn't look quite like the stars they all knew. Debates were already raging, somewhere, about whether or not the Great Lion had abandoned them, and if He had not, whether or not He could see through whatever barrier was suddenly placed between them.

Sifa had been helping with the search party on the Mwezi side of the mountains when the sky went dark and it had ended abruptly. Though it was cautiously resuming, there were other activities to occupy the guards now that the moon was missing. Sifa wasn't one of the ones to resume the hunt for the missing lions, she was more focused on the strange goings-on around the pride.

Her patrol route kept her close to the pride tonight (today? this evening? she was losing track fast) .. but she didn't plan to keep following it. She had other ideas, and adjusted her path accordingly, catching sight of Angkuh not long after he left his den and rushing up to him.

"Angkuh!" she said, "Want to go exploring with me?"

Angkuh had gotten so deeply lost in his thoughts about her that he had begun to even hear her voice... Angkuh! She called his name and he couldn't help the odd smile he shared with the nothingness surrounding him. These moments didn't often last long, nor did they often feel so real. With the loss of their Great Lion - temporarily he assumed - he'd started going a little loopy, mostly from sleep deprivation on and off.

"Exploring?" Finally his vision returned to him and he gave his head a good shake. The vision of Sifa remained and he began to realize his mistake. Sifa was standing there. "Where did you want to explore?" He queried the lioness while gathering his composure, a blush was burning his cheeks fiercely, but his pelt and the darkness helped conceal it.

The direction they were headed in most certainly didn't hold the lost individuals, but with everything going on it was possible they'd find so much more. "Did you hear anything? Rumors?" His ears were all hers and he decided to turn from her to begin walking, she'd redirect him if he needed it - that he was sure of.

He seemed out of it but, considering the circumstances, that was nothing especially strange for any member of the Mwezi'Johari at the moment so she didn't dwell on it. Instead she focused on his questions, shaking her head.

"No," she said, catching up and walking in step beside him, using her place at his side to gently push their path outward and away from the pride- toward the borders, where they needed to go looking. It was easier than giving direct orders, and more subtle.

"With the search parties by the mountains, there's already enough investigating on that side," Sifa said, "It's dark in the mountains but doesn't look like it goes on forever. I want to look in another direction.. if it doesn't go on forever, maybe there's a part of our land that the Great Lion can still see.."

She hoped so.. but she didn't expect it. The world was a strange place right now, expecting the worst was the safest bet, even if it was important not to lose hope.

Angkuh felt the guidance and it washed over him with relief. The direction was aimed directly towards the prides borders and struck him as odd - would they leave the pride?

"True." The lion spoke his answer quietly and let his voice fade away as she continued. He had heard that they had enough help - a bonus if they included the visitors. "No? Sifa, what do you think we will find?" He was surprised by what she had said, surely the darkness had to go on forever. The suggestion that was being made twisted his stomach - was the Great Lion purposely cursing their lands? Or was he being blinded?

"What if it does go on forever though?" Angkuh turned his gaze towards Sifa with concern. "Our world could simply be cursed." He wasn't about to give up, his paws still pressed on, but he was very much about the possibility of a negative outcome. The reality of their situation was heavily weighing in his mind and he wrestled to see a positive light, a silver lining.
