Sit Down & Have Some Tea...

Name: Nazik
Age: 18
Sex: Female
Sexual Orientation: Unknown
Weyr: Western Weyr
---->Would you be willing to change where they Impressed to fill an NPC slot? Y
Rider Rank: Weyrling
Previous Rank/Craft: Jr. Vintner
Physical Description:
Nazik is tall, muscular, and rather sharp edged as if she hasn’t quite eaten enough or just rather angular to match her rather cold like facade that she displays. She has little to no curves and depending on what she is wearing she can easily pass herself as a man if someone isn’t paying enough attention to her and is quite proud of the way she looks. Her hair is black blue and cut short in more of a boyish way and frames her rather piercing blue eyes. Her skin is naturally a dark tan color and tends to grow even darker as she spends a chunk of her time outside. If she can get away with it she would rather spend most of her time wearing loose clothes and no shoes. There is an ugly mark across her back, arm and leg a reminder of what happens in being out in the open when the Threadfall occurs.
Personality:
Nazik puts on an air of elegance and solidarity, while she she spent most of her childhood traveling from hold, to weyrs, and so forth she learned to put on some sort of air of mystique. She has found fewer words and more subtle expressions tend to draw in more interesting people than talking too much or putting on too many airs or coming across too demanding. That doesn’t mean she isn’t passionate about things and if you can get her on subjects that she adores she can easily talk your ear off about every single fact, history, and ounce of knowledge she has. She is also more than happy to give a few words of encouragement to others, cheer in a group setting, or just offer a shoulder to cry on when you are having a tough time. What she doesn’t offer up is information about herself, it’s rare to see any sort of emotion out of her that is real beyond the polite expression she gives, instead she offers up facts, or information about other things doing her best to avoid any sort of topic about her specifically.

The only real emotion Nazik will show is anger, if you do something to hurt someone she deeply cares about then you are on her hit list and she will not hesitate to knock you down a few pegs. That anger is a fierce burning fire that tends to show in sharp words, glares, and even more so unwillingness to give any sort of help or aid no matter what situation they are in, even if death is the end cause. This doesn’t mean she will hate you just because someone loses a temper and calls their a friend a name or does something stupid as spilling drink it would have to be something more detmential for her to put you on an unforgiven list.

Learning how to sell, and specifically something as occasional expensive and frivolous as wine Nazik has learned how to observe others and even more clever enough to know how what words to use. Noticing small details, mannerisms, even how they speak and react is important to know which sort of words to use in order to get them how to buy things. Even as a candidate she still tends to know the right things to say or do just by watching others, she is also quick to change if need be to help the situation. If someone responds more to flattery then she will use flattery, if someone is more prone to bluntness then she will be blunt. If something doesn’t work one way then there is another way to work around it, or come to different sort of solution that may not be the most standard one but she is more than willing to try it. She is quick to adapt to situations she is put in as well adjust easily to new places around her considering how much time she had spent moving from place to place as a child.

Nazik is a perfectionist, she takes everything in a way seriously and will do whatever she can to make it as perfect as possible. At times this can be a problem, sometimes she can get so focus on making sure it’s perfect she doesn’t put in enough care to others around her or always realize that she is pushing others too much. While she can be rather perceptive to others when needed or what she is focused on if it isn’t in the parameters then she will put it to the wayside and consider it unimportant at the time.

Positive Trait List Versatile, Clever, Perceptive
Negative Trait List Severed, Venomous, Pedantic
History:
Nazik was born into a small traveling group of traders who went from holds, to weyrs, to the outermost edges of Pern to not only sell their wares but to find and exchange more exotic goods thats others could not easily get. Not knowing her father and her mother succumbing to an illness when she was young Nazik spent most of her life growing up under the watchful eyes of who she considered her aunt’s and uncles. Despite not being blood related they all kept an eye out on her and her wellbeing however she was never truly part of any family and felt like she owed them a great debt each time they did something kind for her. She learned a great deal how to handle things herself, and quickly latched on to a trade that would be beneficial for the group in order to secure her place with the only people she knew and to return the favor of helping her while she was young. The day the thread came back was devastation for the group, being caught out in the open land those who had managed to get to safety were fortunate, those who did not were mourned. Not knowing what to do and being scattered across the Pern, the group reached the closes hold, trying to gather what little they had left and attempt to reach out for the contacts to find those who were still missing. While healing Nazik was found in a search, seeing this as an opportunity to help the traders now being somewhat crippled by the thread’s existences she agreed to join in hopes of protecting others.
Other: Thank you!

DRAGON
Name: Caykuth
Origin of Name: Çaykur is a Turkey state owned tea producing company found in the Rize province were Rize tea is grown (and named after).
- - - - > Would you be willing to change the dragon's theme to fit a different NPC slot? Y
- - - - > If your tea type is a duplicate of another winning entry, would you also be okay with the dragon being a twin? Y
Color: Brown
- - - - > Would you be willing to change the dragons color/sex to fit a different NPC slot? Y
Inspiration: Rize Tea. Rize tea or Rize çayı is the black tea used for Turkish tea. Produced in Rize Province on the eastern Black Sea coast of Turkey which has a mild climate with high precipitation and fertile soil, when brewed it is mahogany in color. In addition to being consumed at home, it is served in Turkish cafés by a çaycı (tea-waiter), in small, narrow-waisted glasses. It can be taken strong ("demli" dark) or weak ("açık" light), and is traditionally served with beet sugar crystals (toz şeker) or a couple of sugar lumps (kesme şeker).
Personality
Caykuth knows little of the world from outside of his shell and weyr he was born and living in, and though they are riders for a weyr now he hopes to one day see more of the outside world and all the curiosity that it holds. For now he is content on hearing every story he can, even if that means eavesdropping into conversations he has no business listening to or wanting to go further and further each time he is gets into the sky. That doesn’t mean he has no love for his weyr, more of the opposite, he is rather proud of their accomplishments and sees that everything that each member does is a goal reached that everyone should celebrate.

There is something almost familiar when others around Caykuth, while he tends to be a bit more on the small side for browns, he comes across as non-threatening and in some ways comforting. He tends to greet others rather enthusiastically and tries to be one of the first few to do so when others come back from some sort of trip regardless if he knows them or not in any sort of way. Caykuth is protective of those he considers dear to him, and will do whatever possible to make sure they are happy and comfortable wherever they are going out of his way to fuss over them if necessary.

He tends to be rather preceptive on his own and has a bit of a competitive streak, especially against those who underestimate him always noting little things that can be used in his own advantage almost to the point of being ruthless in order to win. While he may not realize what sort of trouble he has caused in doing so, or feelings he has harmed, to him it is all in good fun in the end and if need be smooth it over or apologize for his conduct.

Size: 31’
Physical Attributes: Caykuth is rather small, slender framed that makes it easy for him to maneuver around others and into small places when need be.
Additional Notes:

Why Me: For Nazik, Caykuth is home, while he is a being and not a place home is where the heart is and he is the one heart that will never feel as if it she owes him for it or will leave her. With him she can reveal her inner feelings, her fears, her loneliness, her joy, even when she feels guilty about things outside of her capabilities. They are a team, for better or for worse.

- - - -
What were they like in weyrling training? Studious, if anything Nazik is a quick learner and hard worker, she wants to succeed and having to see what sort of danger the thread the better she is as a candidate means she will be an even better rider.

How did they get along with their other weyrlings? While she could help others ease into situations, give a cheerful or encourage word most wouldn’t really know much about her beyond her reserved nature of herself. She is great observing others and giving words when needed but has offered up little about her own personal life to others.

How did they feel about weyrling training and Liat or V'mel's strict training?
Strict is nothing new to her, Nazik spent a great deal of her childhood being hard on herself and feeling like she owed a lot to those who took care of her. Becoming a rider is a way to help them and keep them safe in return and she will do anything to make sure she does that.

How did they do during Threadfall? Injured, like the rest of the group of traders Nazik was caught out in the open, barely managing to get to safety with some injury and scaring to her body.

How do they feel about Threadfall's return? Angry, losing those she cares about from its fall has only made it worse and knowing what sort of troubles it puts forth to other traders traveling only makes her angerier.

Anything else? NOPE THANK YOU

Sit Down & Have Some Tea...

Name: Zurine
Age:25
Sex: Female
Sexual Orientation: Outwardly she shows interest in the boys- as she is supposed to, but inside- oh inside she’s curious…...
Weyr: High Reaches Weyr
---->Would you be willing to change where they Impressed to fill an NPC slot? Y Rider Rank: Weyrling
Previous Rank/Craft: Weyrbrat
Physical Description: A dainty woman she has long fair hair that is nearly bleached white. She is not strong but lithe and wirey. She keeps herself physically fit to the best of her ability, and is blessed with a healthy constitution even though she is small. Her most arresting feature is her piercing blue eyes- almost as though ice made flames, they burn into someone- and keep them from looking to deeply into her.
Personality: She outwardly holds herself together and composed, because that is what is expected of a weyrbrat of High Reaches. She keeps to tradition as much as possible, but inside her she has this urge trying to burst out to sing, to dance to party to kiss a girl and like it.She of course keeps this tightly bottled inside. She is often found during free time curled up watching the clouds go by and fantasizing about what she’ll do when she impresses a dragon. She looks forward to being able to step a bit out of line once she’s got some status to use….but even though she has known from a tender age she wanted to Impress…...she doubts herself inside at times, this uncertainty becuase well- she’s not entirely ‘Traditional’ and maybe becuase of that the dragons don’t love her, becuase they know she is perhaps flawed. Yet she still romanaces the idea of being a rider, having someone who would be her missing piece, that could tell her she was worthy. I mean of course she has her friends, and she’s fiercely loyal to them- but they cannot see what is inside.
Positive Trait List Composed,Loyal, Stubborn
Negative Trait List Closeted, Insecure,Fanciful.
History: She has lead a fairly typical life as far as a weyrbrat goes. That is to say she’s done her turns in the kitchens just fine- but from the time she was a small child she knew she was ment to ride a dragon. It was all she’d ever wanted. Until she turned 14 she would work her time in the kitchens making things into games in her head. Instead of washing a dish it was her Dragon she was cleaning, when time came to get up it was becaue her dragon awaited her. Yet as turns marched on she grew older, and still didn’t Impress. She held on knowing that there was a dragon out there that would complete her. These games helped her stay to the strict schedules required of a candidate and the low rank, indeed the lowest, she was at Weyr. Yet towards the end of her Candidacy she began to lose some of her fanciful nature- and her determination came into play. High Reaches was ran like a well oiled machine, and for so long (24 turns) She’d had her place in it…. but she was about to age out of the one thing she’d always believed she’d do- and held tightly to through the years with sheer stubborn determination, because to fight thread you needed to be stubborn AF and keep going even when you thought you had nothing left to give….

Other:. Also- I am sure there will need to be some reworking, happy to do it!

DRAGON
Name: Paeoniath
Origin of Name: It is the genus of Peony flowers shifted to count for pernesian dragon names. Also her riders name, Zurine means “White” and together they combine to make the White tea that inspired the dragon
- - - - > Would you be willing to change the dragon's theme to fit a different NPC slot? N
- - - - > If your tea type is a duplicate of another winning entry, would you also be okay with the dragon being a twin? Y
Color:Green
- - - - > Would you be willing to change the dragons color/sex to fit a different NPC slot? Y
Inspiration: White Peony Tea- also known as “Bai Mu Dan”. It is the second tier of white teas, second to White hair silver needle. This tea traditionally is comprised only of the top two leaves of each plant, and posses a stronger flavor than the white hair. It is a pale green color of tea when steeped.
Personality She is quite a little lady, it must be said. She is well composed, doesn’t like to fight with others and tends to play the diplomat whenever possible. She is the sort who rarely lets her hair down, and thus can be construed as up tight, and hard to loosen up. But being small and a green in High Reaches she knows she needs to toe a line. Her passion was split among two things, the desire to fight thread, and the desire to care for her Rider.
Size:19’ Adult
Physical Attributes: The word dainty comes to mind, she’s sleek and lithe, more about speed than power.
Additional Notes: She is likely to be the smallest of the Greens in the clutch. AS such she uses her ladylike personality as a cloak and tool- it helps protect her around some of the others who would engage in rougher play.

Why Me: Why did this dragon pick out the above Candidate? What do they give one another? Zurine while still lady like and composed, yet has this deep desire within her to be a little wild. She admires her candidates fierce desire to be a rider, her loyalty to her home, and together their desire to fight Thread combines into a flame that burns bright.
- - - -
What were they like in weyrling training? Studious and serious they made it through training as a team. When Paeoneath wanted to step in to negotiate a fight that wasn’t hears Zurine would pull her back to their work- just as when Zurine would get lost fantasizing about flying Paeoneath pulled her back.

How did they get along with their other weyrlings?Since Paeoneath strove to be diplomatic it also meant she tried to be a calming influence on the others in her clutch. She will naturally be bullied a bit as she is one of the so called “runts” of the litter because she is so small. But what she lacks in size she and her Zurine make up in heart.

How did they feel about weyrling training and Liat or V'mel's strict training? They both welcome it on some level. It sets their minds at ease knowing that just as they compliment one another, so too do they compliment the job they are to do- Not to change the world by taking it all on- just yanno, taking on thread heh. They help one another accept that each has a greater duty to observe, to keep the people they serve safe, with everything they have. This training will certainly prepare them for it.

How did they do during Threadfall?Due to Peaoneiths speed they were able to avoid the worst of the Thread. There were quite a few close calls, and because Peoneath isn’t a powerful dragon, she was in some real danger of being caught- unfortunantly Zurine took a thread wound across her left shoulder, enough to server as a warning that what they are fighting is very real, She will need some time to heal up but was bloodied

How do they feel about Threadfall's return? Threadfall is here, They are here. there is a job to do

Anything else? Thanks for the opportunity to learn more about EOP- this is a fun contest for my first, and I love that I got to learn more about tea- but while I may thank you for that my wallet *cough* My boyfriends wallet- maybe not so much.

Sit Down & Have Some Tea...

Name: Sevenna ‘Seven’
Age: 17
Sex: Female
Sexual Orientation: Bisexual
Weyr: Western Weyr
---->Would you be willing to change where they Impressed to fill an NPC slot? Y, but the history would need tweaking
Rider Rank: Weyrling
Previous Rank/Craft: Apprentice Fisher

Physical Description:
Wraith-like, some would say as they glimpse this young woman for the first time. Seven is skinny, and has the look of an undernourished, sickly girl who has lived a little too long on the outskirts of good society. She is slight and lean, with disproportionately longer legs than back. Prone to fidgeting, Seven might be found tapping an unknown beat upon her thigh with dexterous fingers, or pacing through the barracks or across the Weyrbowl, quick strides covering any distance she sets her mind to. Despite her build, Seven does not sicken easily and eats with an insatiable appetite. The girl mounting her plate at the buffet? Probably her. Lithe, she might remind others of a burgeoning tree, tall and proud and remarkably striking. There is a lightness to her step that speaks volumes of her natural grace, although she will often refuse to dance.

Her pale skin only adds to her ghostliness; a creamy white undertone, with soft rosey hints upon her cheeks, and a constellation of freckles covering her face. Beneath dark red brows are intense blue eyes, icy and crystalline. Captivating as they may be, Seven has discovered the subtle art of the extraordinarily piercing stare, and is more than capable of disarming a person with a single, pointed look. Delicate rosebud lips, of a soft dusky hue, might just as easily pucker as purse, enhancing the joyful smile she so readily wears. Her face may be described as gaunt- bony and thin, save for the high and rounded cheekbones- but there is no lack of life here. Her long, flaming red hair shows golden glints in the sunlight, and tumbles down to the middle of her back in enthusiastic waves. Seven enjoys braiding it, and is content to pin it up and under her helmet when the need arises.

Her dress-sense is one of practicality above all else. She owns very little Gather finery; the one dress that she has kept throughout the Turns has had to be modified a few times to fit her still, but the jewel red tone and the clinging cut bring out her blossoming beauty, now more than ever. Seven is especially fond of the colours red and green, and will attempt to add a little colour to her plain work and flying clothes. Though no expert at sewing, the young woman has a need for pockets that has seen her attach discarded cloth to pretty much all of her relaxed clothing.

As a result of her childhood accident, Seven bears a rather big and dark scar on the left side of her chest, the skin puckered and knotted over her rib cage. A spider web-like scar is visible on her right shoulder blade, paler than the rest of her skin. A small, straight scar starts at her right wrist and ends halfway up her forearm. She does not cover them up intentionally, but will only shrug when asked about them: it is a closed chapter of her life’s story, in her opinion. Her right arm is slightly misshapen, from a break that never healed quite right.

Personality:
A first impression of Seven may conjure the idea of a whimsical, if quiet young woman, whose warm, tender smile makes her seem unlikely to blossom in a disciplined and strict life. She is kind-hearted and empathic, always willing to lend an ear to a friend or acquaintance in need. Despite this facade of friendliness, there is an air of loneliness about her best conveyed by the distant look in her blue gaze, the aloofness of her posture and her inability to open up to others.

Seven is a young girl afraid of commitment and of getting too close to others. Her emotional disconnection stems from her fear of losing people, brought about by the traumatic loss of her family as a child. She is terrified by the idea of being left behind and broken-hearted- whether intentional or not. Death, romance, even confidences with close friends… the intensity of her emotions and the possibility of having them torn away make her reticent to engage at all. She does not give herself the space to feel deeply and fully, so Seven has become adept at studying and emulating others. She has practiced smiling, nodding, showing interest- and with each new interaction she settles more comfortably into her icy distance.

Fortunately, this young woman doesn't have much of a temper, and has rarely ever experienced anger even during the worst of her childhood. Seven has cultivated a large amount of resilience and determination, and isn't frustrated by obstacles and adversities. Bullying is something that she does not tolerate, and she is quick to jump to someone’s defence without consideration for the situation as a whole- especially if she believes they cannot help themselves. She will fight it the situation calls for it, unafraid of pain or personal injury, but will never raise her voice. Her words will always remain cool and calm- even in the heat of the moment. Her heart is rarely stirred to passion.

Romantic relationships are tricky to navigate, to say the least. Seven pulls back from overt offers and pursuits, uncertain and unwilling to let herself be vulnerable with others. She does, however, enjoy playful teasing. In recent times, she has discovered her own tastes lean both towards men and women, and has overcome the initial consternation and guilt that such thoughts provoked. She always thought of herself as a chaste woman- and now she’s discovering that… well… feelings. They’re there. What to do?

Positive Trait List Resilient - Empathic - Purehearted
Negative Trait List Emotionally disconnected - Commitaphobe - Guarded

History:
Officially, Sevenna was born in Crom Hold, on a warm and waning summer’s night. Her mother, Serasha, was a talented musician possessed of a strong wanderlust. Her father, Tavarllen, had a keen mercantile sense and a passion for making marks. No horizon was too distant for them, which is why Sevenna could not describe her birthplace at all: they left as soon as Serasha had recovered enough to walk.

The caravan-life was not a bad one. Tavarllen was an experienced negotiator and merchant, and his network of contacts from various Holds meant that there was always somewhere new to visit, with a roof to welcome them. Sevenna did not know any other life: travelling was everything she ever needed. Her family was small, and though they shared their two wagons with a few musicians and performers, it was an intimate and comfortable setting.

Second of three, Sevenna’s early life is a blur of half-remembered sensations and impressions. Of her siblings, she remembers caring for her younger sister Arllenne- her very own living doll, sweet as bubbly pie! Her older brother Tashar used to sit up front with their father, interested in the dray-beasts that pulled their caravans.

They migrated to the western continent with the hopes of greater reward, Tavarllen certain that the unexplored new continent had much potential. In eager anticipation of bringing some rare goods to the Weyr- and being well compensated for it- he took his family and caravans along a mountainous path. Bad weather hit, as it is wont to do when stakes are high and deadlines must be met…

They would make good time, he had said. They would be fine, he had said. Seven still remembers his words. She remembers the dubious look on her brother’s face as he glanced up at the sky and muttered about the approaching storm. She remembers the loud cries of her baby sister Arllenne, fussing as her mother rocked and swayed her, preternaturally aware of the danger that was soon to pass. It’s funny, the vague flashes of memory that linger long after something is forgotten. Seven remembers very little else of the day, other than the heavy, pounding rain on the roof of their poor wagon.

In her dreams, there’s a loud boom, followed by an immense and overwhelming pressure as earth and rock rained down upon them. Then she wakes, covered in sweat and gasping for air.

The terrible weather made recovery difficulty. The dragonriders, who were first on the scene, were surprised to find that anyone had survived, yet alone a four Turn old girl. Unconscious and badly injured, they pulled her from the wreckage of her life and returned to Western Weyr. Nobody else survived.

Broken bones and temporary memory loss- scars that would last longer than her own recollections. Seven took months to recover the full use of her arms, her right forearm slightly misshapen still. To this day, her memory can be patchy at times, especially short-term; Seven mitigates this with focused, devoted attention to that which needs remembering.

She was kept at Western Weyr under the watchful eyes of its Healers, although nobody really knew what to do with her. She was quite alone in the world, and barely coherent most of the time as she drifted in and out of terrorised and painful sleep- cogent enough to draw a name from her lips, and that was about it.

When she was finally released from the infirmary, the creche mothers took her on, and Seven joined Western’s weyrbrats around the age of five. It was very, very different to her life on the road, of which she remembered little. For starters- being around dragons on such a permanent basis rather altered her view of the world and its dangers. Secondly, the Weyr was like one very big family. The feeling of growing apprehension and fear threatened to consume her as she struggled to recall her mother’s face, and the comfortable feeling of those nights spent around a campfire in good company. She spent the first few Turns of her life readjusting to being around people, learning how to cope with what had happened.

There were whispers, of course. Some of the creche mothers did look at her a bit funny, and some of the older children, the more vicious children… well, they said she was unlucky. That maybe she was cursed? Seven learnt to shrug off the worst of the verbal bullying, developing a thick outer skin that protected her own feelings. She retreated inwards, secluding herself or staying on the outskirts of her small friendship groups. Not all people were bad, of course- it took all sorts to make a Weyr… but it still didn’t feel right. It still didn’t feel like her world.

Nothing quite filled the ache left by her family’s deaths. She knew that when she closed her eyes at night, her dreams would be plagued by their imagined screams, by illusionary pain that was as real to her mind as the very breath she drew. Her night terrors worsened. Seven’s fidgetiness started about this time, a waking restlessness that came from long bouts of insomnia and a need to occupy her mind with anything, anything at all.

When Harper lessons first began, Seven found that she could pour all of her energy into them. Sleep came easier when she could go over ballads in her mind, reciting them to herself under her breath in the middle of the night. They didn’t all stick- her memory was faulty at best, and she had to try hard to impress her teachers. They encouraged her to focus on her interests, and she developed a love for the guitar, which she still plays to this day.

When it came to apprenticing to a Craft, Seven preferred something outdoors-y, that would take her away from the hushed hubbub of the Weyr and into her own world of peace and solitude. Drawn to fishing by the quiet comforts it brought her, she learnt how to rig small dinghies for fishing needs, how to keep tackle and bait, how to gut and prepare fish for later use. It was good work, and the menial tasks kept her from dwelling. Her quiet, resilient approach drew the eye of a Journeyman assigned to the Weyr, who took her under his wing. Seven and Karrik forged a strong if silent bond. To this day, she is still extremely grateful to him, and sees him as a father figure of sorts.

At fifteen, she was offered the opportunity to Stand. Candidacy was not so different from her fishing duties, if slightly more dull without an ocean vista. Lessons, she enjoyed, if only because she was a diligent student. She knew most of the weyrborn candidates, and acquainted herself with the holders and the crafters as well. She did not lack for company nowadays, though she never felt especially close to anyone either.

Her luck on the sands changed in her sixteenth Turn. Chores had been a routine thing, and Seven only vaguely registered the panic that seemed to course through the Weyr’s inhabitants. A clutch, hatching on some faraway sands? A smile brought a flicker of warm light to her eyes. She was ready by sheer virtue of being rather unflappable.

It was a long one. Sweltering under the sun, Seven began to feel a bit faint, and was glad for the discipline her interest in fishing had brought her. She knew how to survive and make do, so she simply waited… She knew, intrinsically, deep down, that she ought to make more of an effort to feel positive and welcoming, but she feared the plastered smile on her face made her fakeness seem transparent.

What if the baby dragons could see right through her? Into her emotionally numbed heart? What if they knew how cold she was? Or if they thought she was broken, or worthless? Her confidence wilted as the minutes passed, and she clutched her hands, forcing herself to be brave, to be strong, to be in the moment.

I never thought your heart was cold. It has always seemed very warm to me. The high-pitched, nasally voice drifted through her mind like a dream. Seven started, sweat beading and dripping down her neck. She glanced about and realised there was a gangly, thin blue dragon staring up at her. His eyes were filled with rainbows- odd, she thought, until she realised that it was not odd. It was not odd at all. It was the most perfectly normal, perfectly wonderful thing in the world.

Your Chireeth knows. He can feel your heart press against his. SevenMine, I hope you don’t mind, but that’s my hunger there… Any chance we might eat?

The tears trickled down her face, though she tried to hold them back. She choked on a sob, smiling and crying all at once, losing herself in Chireeth’s infinite kindness. The bond, which had been so gentle in its beginnings, swept each of them up in the other’s love; tried and tested by many trials, it would be unbreakable. It already was. She wrapped him up in a hug, then led him to his first meal.

Weyrling training was demanding, to say the least. Seven worked hard to keep on top of her studies, putting in extra time and effort to overcome the limitations of her memory. Rote learning ballads from childhood came in handy, and memorisation of drills and different types of Falls was a simple matter of hard work and dedication. However, she had a much larger problem with Between, where the darkness evoked memories and trauma she believed she had overcome. With coaching- and a few, discrete visits to a Mindhealer, as well as Chireeth’s unending support and encouragement- the pair are able to make the trips into the nothingness safely (or as safely as possible).

Other: Seven’s history and the long-term effects of her injuries can be altered at your request!

DRAGON
Name: Chireeth
Origin of Name: Genmaicha, or Japanese brown rice tea. Also, it sounds like ‘cheery’.
- - - - > Would you be willing to change the dragon's theme to fit a different NPC slot? Y
- - - - > If your tea type is a duplicate of another winning entry, would you also be okay with the dragon being a twin? Y
Color: Blue
- - - - > Would you be willing to change the dragons color/sex to fit a different NPC slot? Y
Inspiration:
Genmaicha is Japanese brown rice tea. It also known as the people's tea, or as popcorn tea. It has a rather full-bodied flavour, rich and nutty thanks to the addition of rice; and serves many purposes from soothing stomachs to aiding those who are fasting or between meals for various reasons (health, spirituality, etc). It was once widely drank by poorer folk, as the rice was a good filler for when actual food lacked. Nowadays, it is consumed and appreciated by people of many different walks of life.

Legend has it that genmaicha came about thanks to an old Japanese folk custom of roasting leftover kagami-mochi (a type of rice cake eaten during the New Year holidays), and putting the roasted mochi into the tea. This had multiple benefits: it would renew the flavour of the tea leaves, which wouldn’t last beyond a year, and the mochi would find a second use. The result was a combination of enhanced, delicious flavours.

Personality
[well-meaning, enthusiastic about helping others, peaceable; anxious, low self-esteem, self-sacrificing]

Chireeth is a pure and gentle blue, whose tender hearts place him in a great position both to help others and be mercilessly trampled by life’s rigors. He is a sweet, non-judgemental dragon who means well; he is also a worrier, prone to anxiety and readily beaten by his own negative self-talk. It will take a lot of patience, love and encouragement to help Chireeth achieve his best: but he has a lot to offer Pern if he can reach a place of confidence and inner peace.

As a friendly, sociable dragon, Chireeth will always feel called to involve himself in the conversation and affairs of his kin. He enjoys the banality of idle chatter, and some of his favourite topics of conversation include weather forecasts, short-term food availability and whether so-and-so will end up rising soon. He enjoys Harpers tales of heroic deeds, especially any concerning valorous dragons- whom he idolises and aspires to be, even as he realises he never could be quite that brave.

He carries a deep fear that he is a burden on others, and may sometimes spend long hours thinking over what he has said during previous conversations. He might wonder why, exactly, his fellow dragon had asked for a little time and space alone (not realising that it was because the aforementioned dragon wished to nap); or perhaps he might ponder how to phrase things better in the future, so he doesn’t sound quite as rambly or awkward. His social anxiety simmers deep down, noticeable only by the more perceptive dragons, and by his rider: it will take a lot of calming and a lot of reassurance for him to become truly comfortable in regular company. At first, Chireeth may be awkward around new and unfamiliar dragons.

Though he may not be cowardly, Chireeth dislikes confrontation- especially of the physical variety. Threadfall is a prospect against which he must steel himself, for if he had any choice in the matter, he would fly in the lowest wing possible, and very rarely… He knows his duty, of course, and the instinct to fight Thread is there… it’s just not as strong as his desire not to be hurt and possibly die. Still, his courage and strength can be rallied with the right leaders- and Seven bolstering him as well: he will never be an overachiever or an exemplary fighter, but he is honest, and will fight to the last.

He cares so very deeply for his draconic kin: Chireeth would give tooth, claw and blood for them, if it means their lives are made easier in some fashion. He is a sweet, gentle soul who sees the Weyr as a community, rather than as a group of individuals striving for survival, and holds the good of all above everything. His hopes lie in wanting to change things for the better, though he is uncertain in how to go about this.

Unusual for dragons, perhaps, is his penchant for meditation and his enjoyment of peace and quiet. Though he is a social creature at heart, Chireeth values the time he and his rider have alone. He will often sit on the sand with her, watching the sunset whilst breathing in the hush of the sea, the smell of the salt and the gently fading light, until their souls are filled to the brim with this brightly sparkling peace. He is oddly reverent of more spiritual traditions, such as mourning the lost, or celebrations that invoke tales of old. Chireeth is also very respectful of those in charge, perceiving them, in his mind, as infallible, to be heeded at all times.

Size: 29’

Physical Attributes: A little thin and drawn-out, Chireeth looks like he, too, could use a hearty meal before the wind blows him down. Like rider like dragon, perhaps? He is long-legged and long-tailed, but not overly big despite his proportions.

Additional Notes: He has an average flame-length, but his endurance is a little bit below average for a dragon of his colour. He prefers to chase more relaxed ladies, and won’t be opposed to cuddling with other losers afterwards.

Why Me:
Seven, whose mind aches with old trauma but whose heart has grown resilient and strong over the Turns, seeks a way to connect with others and heal from the past. Chireeth, whose mind is plagued with his own self-esteem demons, but whose soul is full of purity and light, needs a strong heart to help guide his own. Together, the pair complement each other well, supporting one another through endeavours that might otherwise have left them falling apart.

Chireeth will encourage Seven to step outside of her social comfort zones, but also give her the space she needs to feel safe and at peace with the world. In turn, Seven will provide Chireeth with self-confidence and assuage his fears, an endless font of reassurance and unconditional love. Between the two of them, they are a shabby but functional Thread-fighting pair who throw themselves into their work with dedication and resolve.

- - - -
What were they like in weyrling training?
Seven and Chireeth were noted for being studious and quiet, but due to Seven’s memory issues, they required extra help and training along the way. Chireeth also needed a firm prodding into understanding his duties a little better, as he would have been content never learning how to flame in the first place.

How did they get along with their other weyrlings?
Seven is a friendly, approachable young woman, but notably quiet and a little bit disengaged from her comrades. Chireeth, on the other hand, seemed to enjoy being up in other people’s business- at least until he felt like he was being overbearing. His fear of being a bother would have made him seem almost moody or taciturn, until he was reasoned out of his worry-spiral.

How did they feel about weyrling training and Liat or V'mel's strict training?
Seven enjoyed the strictness and discipline, though would have approached Liat in private about her fears of Between, and the issues concerning her ability to memorise mental images. Chireeth did not enjoy it so much, but bent easily to the will of the Weyrlingmaster’s dragon.

How did they do during Threadfall?
They were unfathomably lucky for a very untried and nervous pair: Seven suffered a sprained wrist from an unexpected draft of wind that caught Chireeth by surprise. Chireeth retired as early as he could from their first Fall.

How do they feel about Threadfall's return?
Chireeth understands it must be fought, and has resigned himself to his fate. Seven, who has only really known the Weyr as her home, mourns the fate of the world, but prepares herself to defend it nobly and unfalteringly. She feels like she has nothing left to lose other than herself and Chireeth- and as long as they do their best… it’ll be okay… right?

Sit Down & Have Some Tea...

Name: Sablie
Age: 30
Sex: Female
Sexual Orientation: Straight
Weyr: Western Weyr
---->Would you be willing to change where they Impressed to fill an NPC slot? Yes, if needed
Rider Rank: Weyrling
Previous Rank/Craft: Mindhealer Journeyman
Physical Description: Sablie has golden blonde hair that seems to glow in the sunlight. When it is loose, it goes down to her behind, but usually she has it done in a messy mermaid braid. She has electric blue eyes, that seem to sparkle with life and light. She stands at 5'11 and weighs about 145 lbs, toned in all of the right places for a rider. She makes sure to keep in shape, so she is ready for anything, even more now that her dragon expects it. She wears riding gear that is comfortable and presentable, even if she has to depend on her dragon to help her with wardrobe choices outside her riding gear.
Personality: Come, have a nice mug of klah with her, Sablie is always willing to have company. This young woman loves inviting others to keep her company, whether it is just to talk about what is going on in Western Weyr or to allow someone to get something off their chest. Wherever she is, she encourages others to join her. When having company over to her weyr, she will always have food and drink for them, knowing it will make them feel more at home. If she sees someone by themselves in the mess hall, she will invite them over to eat with her. No one should be alone in her mind, so please, come join her. She is always open with a listening ear and an understanding mind, after all, she was trained as a mindhealer.

When it comes to things she knows, she is very confident in herself. She has studied hard as a mindhealer and as a weyrling, so she feels she can excel in both of those areas. Nothing can bring her down when it comes to areas she feels comfortable in, she will go into them with her head held high. Of course, on the flip side, she is very opinionated on how she thinks things should be or what a person should do. Of course you should tell that person that you like them, why wouldn't you? That bronze is showing off too much, someone should tell him that he needs to remember that color doesn't matter. She tells it like it is and she doesn't care if you agree with her or not, certainly she knows what she is talking about. However, she makes sure to bite her tongue when it comes to her leaders or those she respects (as hard as it may be if she thinks they are in error), since she knows questioning them will just get her into hot water. She will make suggestions to them, when she feels they would be receptive to such, but she would never push her opinions on them.

As much as Sablie loves company, she also likes to have time to herself. She uses this time to reflect on things she has seen or done during the day. After all, it is good to think about things and see what you can learn from them. She will sit in her weyr with a warm drink, assessing what went right and wrong, seeing what can be improved. It helps her make plans on how to make herself better and how to assist those around her. The end of the day is not the only time she is reflective, however, she does it as often as she can when she feels she needs it. She finds it very relaxing, in addition to how it helps herself and others. As a mindhealer, she feels it is one of the best ways to learn and grow. She is also very perceptive, able to pick up information about a person and situation from the context clues. Someone is walking with their shoulders hunched, something must have happened to sour their mood. Someone has bags under their eyes, it might be a good idea if they get some rest. Whatever she picks up on, she is bound to find someway to help or make suggestions.

While she may be wonderful in some areas, social graces is not one of them. She is seen by some as very unrefined, having a habit of not caring what others think of her looks or manners. If she had her way, she would just wear what she felt was comfortable and practical, not caring at all about fashion. What is the use, clothing was just to be worn to keep one protected and covered, right? She has no trouble burping whenever she feels the need to, no matter who is around and whether it is lady like or not. If she wants something, she has no trouble reaching across the table to grab it. If she could, she would talk to everyone in the same casual way, no matter what rank they may be. Rough and tumble is how this girl likes it and she doesn't care who agrees, she likes getting messy. Adding to her rough edges, the girl is also known to be clumsy. If you are dancing with this one, be sure to mind your feet, so she doesn't step on them. It is not uncommon for her to reach for something and it goes clattering to the floor. Or opps, she didn't mean to drop that bag of firestone almost on a fellow rider's head, she was just trying to untie it from her pouch. Both of these things she is working on, but it takes time to teach an old canine new tricks.

Some would say Sablie would forget her head if it wasn't attached, which she wouldn't argue with. For as long as she could remember, she has been absent minded and would accidentally forget things. She was sure she put that book she was reading next to her bed or didn't she just get a new pair of riding goggles yesterday? She doesn't mean to forget things, but sometimes things slip from her mind. Thankfully, she has plenty of people who are more than willing to help her remember where she put things or anything else that she might forget. Despite some issues she might have, she is always quite calm. It takes a lot to ruffle her feathers, even her opinions come in a very relaxed way. She sees no reason to get stressed, everything has a way of working itself out. Things may look bleak, but she knew things could turn around for the better eventually, and she feels it is okay to cry.
Positive Trait List Perceptive, Confident, Reflective, Inviting, Calm
Negative Trait List Opinionated, Unrefined, Absent minded, Clumsy
History: Sablie grew up as the eldest child of five born to one of the minor lord holders and his wife under the lord holder of Western hold. As such, she was taught all the ways to be a proper lady and mingle with the other important people they were to encounter. Unfortunately for her parents, those lessons never really took, she was too eager to get dirty and act like a drudge's kid. Not only that, but her clumsy ways made her parents think that they would never be able to get her married off like they would like. So once she turned ten turns old, they sent her off to study how to be a mindhealer. After all, if she couldn't contribute as a 'proper lady,' maybe she could use her skills to help bring calm to the stressful lives of the hold. She seemed to have a natural knack for it, so her parents thought it was for the best.

For the next twelve turns, Sablie grew in her craft and she loved it. It was such a refreshing thing to get to talk to people and help them with their problems. When she turned twenty two, she was ready to walk the tables and go from being just an apprentice to being a journeyman. She was so proud of her accomplishment and although she wasn't the perfect lady, her parents were too. She spent the next three turns helping the people at home, before she was offered a job at Western Weyr. Getting a chance to help the riders was something she had always dreamed of doing, so she jumped at the chance. Not only that, she had relatives that were riders from her mother's side of the family, so she hoped to get to know them better than she did.

She had only been at Western Weyr about a seven day, when he life took an unexpected turn. She had just been enjoying a peaceful lunch outside on the beach, when she was surprised by a search dragon landing near her. Suffice to say, the sandwich soon ended up more literal in its name when it tumbled out of her hands. It seemed that the dragon could sense her and their rider suggested Sablie should become a candidate. The young woman didn't even have to think about it, she accepted almost immediately. After all, being a rider was seen as an honor and she wasn't going to turn that opportunity down. The next four turns came and went, with no dragon to call her own, but she wasn't worried. If she was meant to be a dragon rider, she would be elated, but she had a wonderful craft to return to if she didn't manage to impress. Not only that, but she would still get to work with riders, so it really was a win win situation for her.

When she turned twenty nine, she did become a little saddened by the fact she might night become a rider. She knew she was nearing the time that candidates in Western aged out. As much as she wasn't worried, she was hoping to get to bond with a dragon on such a level that she had only heard about. Sure, she had flits, but it wasn't the same, she knew that from what the riders around her said. Thankfully, an impromptu hatching on a beach was an answer to her dreams. She had arrived there with the other Western candidates, enjoying the warmth of the sun. Watching with interest as eggs began to hatch and some bonding with their soul mates, it was always a treat to watch for her. That was when she watched a brown hatchling emerge from his egg with such an explosion. Someone was not happy that he wasn't being watched, surely they should be charmed by him..right? Sablie mentally assured him she was watching and what a handsome dragon she found him to be. This seemed to catch his attention and he walked with purpose over to her, making sure to look as dashing as he could, despite the egg goop still covering him. When he got to her, his eyes burst into a rainbow of color, she was his other half. Since then, they have worked their way through Weyrling training together and are ready for when they graduate.
Other: She tends to carry around some parchment to write anything down she may need for later.

DRAGON
Name: Calyceth
Origin of Name: Calyceth is named for the part of the hibiscus plant that keeps the flower safe called the Calyx. It is dried calyces that make up the hibiscus tea.
- - - - > Would you be willing to change the dragon's theme to fit a different NPC slot? Yes, if I needed to
- - - - > If your tea type is a duplicate of another winning entry, would you also be okay with the dragon being a twin? Yes
Color: Brown
- - - - > Would you be willing to change the dragons color/sex to fit a different NPC slot? Yes
Inspiration: Calyceth is inspired by the herbal tea known as hibiscus tea. This tea comes from North Africa and Southeastern Asia, from the flowers of the semi tropical hibiscus plant. The tea is known for its deep red color, along with it having a sweet and tart taste. It is a tea that can be served either hot or cold. It is also known to be beneficial in a variety of ways, such as in lowering blood pressure and helping in weight loss.
Personality If you wanted someone who stands out in a crowd, look no further than Calyceth. He seems to ooze charm wherever he goes, knowing how to tell dragons and people what they want to hear. He loves giving compliments, especially if people are inclined to pay him some in return. This is a dragon who knows he turns heads in his direction and doesn't mind it at all. He usually has a following of others, willing to sit near him and listen to what he has to say. He usually tends to make sure that those he cares about will feel the light as well. After all, he loves them too much not to have them bathe in the attention like he does. He doesn't understand why someone would not love all the attention. He really does mean well and want the best for those he cares about. If anything, he is the first one to shower them in compliments and love.

Unfortunately, he can also be very temperamental, his moods seeming to fluctuate at the drop of a hat. One moment he could be his loving self, the next moment he could be snapping at the nearest person. It can happen without warning, so one can never be sure what may set this brown off, unless you are his rider. When he is in one of his bitter moods, the usually charming dragon becomes blunt. He will tell it like he sees it and there is nothing that will change his moment, at least until he is calmed down. When he is in a sweet mood, which is usually how he is, he can be very soothing. He likes to use his words to calm people down and reduce their stress levels. Thankfully, though his moods can change quickly, his rider is usually able to tell and able to calm him down.

Calyceth loves being his very best and expects the same from those around him, especially his rider. Whether that means putting in some extra training to keep in shape or learning how to look their best, he will encourage others to strive to reach for the sky. It will make him impatient if someone isn't getting it like he is, it shouldn't be that hard...right? When others seem stuck in their ways, he will pester them until they work on improving. After all, they are representatives of their weyr, they should act like it. His rider gets the most nudging, since this is his bond mate, so her actions reflect on him too. Little by little, he will make her as amazing as he is, since he knows she is.
Size: 33'
Physical Attributes: Despite being on a small side of average for a brown, Calyceth is very well built. He makes sure he keeps in tip top shape, working to keep his stamina and strength up to snuff. Being smaller, he does do pretty well at maneuvering, even if he is not as flashy or fast as the blues and greens.
Additional Notes: Calyceth has hot, long flames because this is one intense dragon. He prides himself on his epic flames, that are no match for thread, in his opinion. Like his flames, he is intense when it comes to chasing golds or greens. He throws himself into it, determined to prove that he is the best dragon. After all, he feels he can satisfy any female dragon that he manages to catch.

Why Me: Sablie knew just the words to say to soothe the brown when he didn't have any attention. While her compliment and attention were what first caught his notice, his attraction to her went much deeper than that. He could see she would be the calm to his storm, something he knew he would need in his life. He also sensed her enjoyment of helping others and how inviting she was, that was something he connected with. After all, they both shared a love of company and looking out for those around them. Together, he knew they would never lack for attention and would strive to help those they cared about.

Calyceth also knew that Sablie needed his help, in more ways than one. His need to be the best he can be and wanting the same for others, made it obvious Sablie needed his help to be her best in ways she was lacking. Her lack of refinement made him determined to polish her like the jewel he knew she could be. Her clumsiness, he would help her try to be a little more careful. Or at least, try to lessen the impact of those bruised toes throbbing head she was bound to lead in her wake. He would be her memory for when she forgot something, so she would never feel the embarrassment from such a thing. All in all, he saw they both needed each other in ways seen and unseen. They would strengthen each other's strengthens and help each other grow from their faults, or at least temper them.

- - - -
What were they like in weyrling training? Both Sablie and Calyceth put everything they could into their weyrling training. There were rough spots when Calyceth had one of his bitter days or Sablie accidentally dropped/forgot something, but they had each other to smooth over any rough spots. The pair wanted to do their best, so they didn't give any trouble, least that they could help. Sometimes their mouths may have gotten them in trouble, but usually they found a way to make everything right again.

How did they get along with their other weyrlings? Since both of them love company, they would have made as many friends among the other weyrlings as they could. Sometimes Calyceth's mood swings or Sablie's opinionated ways would push away someone, but they would always apologize and work towards being friends with that person once more. Both of them would have also offered what advice they could to their fellow weyrlings, whether how to be their best or something that would help ease their mind.

How did they feel about weyrling training and Liat or V'mel's strict training? Both dragon and rider loved weyrling training, seeing it as a way to enhance their skills. They knew Liat's strictness was to make sure they would perform at their best. After all, it was getting them fit and they knew that would benefit them in the long run. The only problems they would have with training would be when Calyceth was having one of his moods or when Sablie had one of her mishaps. However, they always worked even harder to make up for it.

How did they do during Threadfall? All in all, they did fairly well during Threadfall. However, it has not been perfect, because both of them have scars along their bodies from being hit by thread, due to small mishaps. Thankfully, nothing that a trip through between couldn't deal with and just leave them with reminders to be careful.

How do they feel about Threadfall's return? Neither of them are happy about Threadfall's return, but are determined to do their share in the fight against it. It isn't like they can just wish it away, so they will make sure people are kept safe from the silvery menace. Everyday they are up there, they are doing something to be proud of.

Anything else? Nope, just thank you for the opportunity to try for one of the tea NPCs.

Sit Down & Have Some Tea...

Name: Onyx (Viionyx)
Age: 25 turns
Sex: Female (Cis)
Sexual Orientation: Pansexual
Weyr: Western Weyr
---->Would you be willing to change where they Impressed to fill an NPC slot? Y
Rider Rank: Weyrling
Previous Rank/Craft: Journeyman Healer (Surgical), Candidate
Physical Description: Onyx is not especially tall, standing at only 5'3". Don't let her height fool you--she's evidently muscular, albeit in a lean way, without much bulk. That said, she's still sturdy-looking, with wiry muscle. A little like a runner or swimmer in build, but with a bit of a boxier, stronger shape, she definitely looks the type who can hold her own--and she can. Despite her size, she is a strong fighter, with speed, dexterity, and reflexes as her strong points.

There is a scar running vertically down her left cheek, just below her eye, from a dueling accident. She was lucky that it missed the eye itself. Beyond her scar, she is a bit plain in appearance, and has a relatively unremarkable face. Perhaps handsome or pretty, in a way, but she is not the type to draw looks. Her lips are full and her skin is pale; she boasts amber-brown eyes and dark brown hair. Her hair is straight and thick, with a slight wave, and usually worn in a long braid. Her eyebrows are low and thin, and her lashes are dark. Overall, her face is broad, with full cheeks and a low brow.
Personality: an intelligent and passionate person who strives to be the best she can be and refuses to be hurt or used; she is caring, but comes across as casual and flirty.

scientific, intelligent, passionate, determined, caring, flirty, laid-back, innovative, creative, odd/goofy, morbid, vengeful, goal-oriented, rebellious, friendly, proud, competitive, defensive, self-sacrificing, nosy, noble

Onyx is a scientifically-minded person in a less scientific time. She believes in innovation and finding answers to questions. Logical, intelligent, and rational, Onyx likes looking at problems and discovering solutions. She enjoys learning, with a strong interest in anatomy, biology, and healing. She often tries to find new cures or medications for various diseases, or find new health supplements. If she is reasonable sure something won't kill her, she may even try new things out on herself. She's gotten herself sick a few times before. Just because she's seen a wherry eat something doesn't mean it's safe for human consumption.

Due to her interest in anatomy, she enjoys dissection of animals. Her specialty, as far as healing, is surgical; her advanced knowledge of anatomy and biology has aided her in her craft. She can be a bit morbid at times, often forgetting people aren't always interested in hearing about her craft in a casual, detached way. It's all just so fascinating to her!

Another area of fascination has always been the smithcraft. She enjoys watching others craft things, and has, in fact, tried her hand at some of it before. It's a hobby, though, rather than a passion, and she is hardly well-trained in the smith craft. She is much more engaged with the healer craft, and is desperately trying to become a master--even if it's been on hold for a bit, for obvious reasons. Who says riders can't become master crafters, too? And who says she can't do it while she's still young? She's confident in her abilities, even a bit cocky at times, and her ambitions know no bounds. Obviously, she can achieve her dreams of mastery and dragonriding.

Onyx believes strongly in growth, both for herself as an individual, and for society as a whole. As a result, she hates the traditional status quo. Even though it has worked for High Reaches, she feels some resistance towards maintaining the status quo. As a result, she would love to be a ranking dragonrider--half out of spite.

She seeks and values self-betterment, growth, and education. Other motivations include revenge and spite, as she holds a grudge forever. Overall, she is determined and goal-oriented. Most goals, predictably, include some kind of protection of others, self-improvement, or revenge. She's quite good at setting reasonable goals and following through, and if she wants to be, Onyx can be extremely organized and meticulous.

Unfortunately, Onyx can be very rebellious. She doesn't like being told what to do or how to act, and tends to balk at such things. Of course, she'll behave herself if she needs to, if it suits her, but she dislikes rules and restrictions, at least when they're placed on her.

As an individual, Onyx loves animals, especially firelizards. She's always admired dragons, too.

Charismatic and friendly, Onyx likes people and is generally a social, outgoing person. She seems very laid back, as though she doesn't take anything seriously. Despite this, she can be very serious when it serves her, and knows how to get things done. She's hardly lazy, though this would surprise some, with strong determination and a sense of duty. That said, she is relatively relax, though she can get riled up at times. Onyx enjoys puns and has a sense of humor. She can be goofy and silly, at least on the surface, and enjoys cracking bad jokes that make others groan. Her most powerful tools are her playful grin and her sharp mind--the duality of (wo)man. She does come across as lazy and unmotivated at times, but if it's something she's devoted to, or something that reflects her values, she's passionate in pursuing it with dedication and a one-track mind.

Onyx doesn't JUST hold grudges. She gets revenge. She doesn't let anyone hurt her or hers, and will protect her loved ones until her dying breath. She is relatively moral, but will prioritize the lives of her loved ones over everyone else. She's willing to condemn the whole Weyr, if it saves one of her loved ones. Despite this, she does care, and would sacrifice herself to save her Weyr--she just wouldn't sacrifice someone she cared about. There are certain people she would do anything for, and she gets quite attached.

If she feels cornered, she can be quite vicious. In general, she is proud and refuses to bend on her ideals, or even her opinions. If she's proven wrong and given an out that saves her dignity, she might take it, but otherwise she's quite rigid. That said, she takes her goals (and revenge) very seriously, as she is less of a goof than she acts. (She's still a goof, though.) Generally teasing and playful in nature, she snaps into "serious mode" when needed--especially when a loved one is threatened.

Onyx can be very flirty, though largely in a teasing, non-serious manner. That said, she is very open in terms of bed partners. Despite this, she's never had a real romantic relationship, though she has had several sexual partnerships. As a result, she is inexperienced when it comes to romance, with little idea about how she's supposed to progress. When given genuine, romantic affection, her aloof, casual attitude melts, and she becomes easily flustered. She's more prone to getting her heart broken than to breaking hearts, but her obliviousness to the romantic interests of others may result in accidental heartbreak. She's had many lovers, lasting anywhere from one night to a year or two--but none were more than that.

When it comes to her emotions, she will often deny that anything is wrong, both to others and to herself. Denial is her main coping mechanism, and she can get defensive, as well. If she feels she has done something wrong, she accepts responsibility and feels lasting guilt. If emotionally or verbally attacked, though, she may become prickly and defensive. As a woman prone to flares of anger, she has gotten into her share of arguments and shouting matches--and even some fistfights or duels. Many of those, too, in fact, though less since Impression. Overall, she doesn't back down easily, and is competitive. When it comes to those she loves, she will fight fiercely to protect them or defend their honor.

Despite the love in her heart for those who matter to her, and her determination to defend them, she is prone to turbulent relationships, filled with intensity of any kind. She can be a bit oblivious to the emotions of others and their social cues, and has generally low emotional intelligence. She will mentally deny that anyone is upset, until it is too late to fix the problem. She can be suspicious of others, assuming that they will harm her at some point and hiding her true self from them. It's best if they think she's goofy, and not that she has emotions. She feels sadness and pain, like everyone else, but she hides this out of fear of being seen as weak, and people abandoning her or using her as a result. She is resilient, but never talks about her feelings. She loves easily, but doesn't trust easily.

More than a little hotheaded, Onyx has a fire in her heart that burns brightly. No one can stand in her way when it comes to her goals; no one can harm her or those she loves; and no one, no one, can get away with succeeding at any of those. Although she's usually laid back and not bothered easily, her temper is vicious. Slow to wake but burning bright, she is prone to impulsively lashing out when angered.

There are many words for Onyx, when it comes to her intellectual drive. She likes to know everything, be it facts and knowledge or rumors and goings on. She can be nosy and a gossip. She can be inquisitive and curious. Either way, she is an explorer at heart; she likes trying new things, going to new places, meeting new people. When her world feels too small, she can get bored and irritable.

Positive Trait List Intelligent, Protective, Inquisitive, Friendly, Playful
Negative Trait List Rebellious, Turbulent in relationships, Suspicious/distrustful, Oblivious, Poor emotional intelligence
History:
TW: Abuse and death mentions
Born at a cothold under Fort Weyr, Viionyx never really had experience with a larger hold or Weyr sort of life, growing up. Everyone knew everyone else's business, and there was no way to hide. That said, those who were quiet and well-behaved blended in, fell to the background; as a result, Onyx became a loudmouthed, energetic child, often getting herself into trouble and sticking her nose where it didn't belong. Cothold life suited her, in some ways--she could know everything about everyone else, and she loved her family dearly. In other ways, it didn't--there was a limited amount of what she could learn, both in regards to education and to gossip, and her world was oh-so small.

She was born the second child of Jirnyx and Arideviio, and three turns later, her sister Jiravii was born, making her the middle child. Viionyx was very close to Jiravii, caring deeply for her sister, even though Jiravii's birth resulted in their mother's passing. Their father, Jirnyx, blamed Viionyx for it, of all people. After all, she was the rambunctious one, likely responsible for Ari's poor health, which resulted in complications, obviously. Jirnyx was a demanding, controlling father, quick to criticize, but had a soft spot for Jiravii. He doted on his youngest daughter, and was harsher towards Viionyx. Most of the others in the cothold, especially those related by blood, found Jirnyx's temper and harshness to be distasteful, but didn't do anything to change it, even when his anger lashed out in other ways, even physical.

Nyxari, Viionyx's older sister, left the cothold to strike out her future, sick of the family dynamics and tension surrounding her father, and her mother's passing. Viionyx still feels abandoned by Nyxari, largely because she hasn't heard from Nyxari since her sister left.

At a young age, she followed the cothold's poor excuse for a healer around, interested in learning all he could teach. Unfortunately, he found her a nuisance, and mostly ignored her. When she was finally old enough to be an apprentice, she begged her father to send her to the healer hall. He was happy to be rid of her, and was glad to send her away. Jiravii saved up before Vii left, and bought her a small firelizard egg, which hatched into Vijr, or "Vii Junior." Since leaving, she has kept in contact with her sister through letters, via her new flit.

At the Healer Hall, she met a few dear friends. Tordia (M), Darja (F), Ashmedai (M), and Viper (F) were all friends, a turn older at most, who eagerly welcomed Viionyx into their group. Tordia was a controlling yet cheerful individual, while Darja was easily influenced but kind. Ashmedai was a little rough around the edges, and a bit of a prankster, the definition of chaotic neutral. Viper, despite that not being her real name, was Ashmedai's sly, long-tolerating best friend. Viionyx clicked with them quickly, despite throwing most of her energy into her studies. She decided to go by Onyx shortly after her arrival, preferring a new name that wasn't given by her father.

She refused to deal with the stressors she'd felt early in her life, and instead continued moving forward with surprising resilience. As she aged, before becoming a journeyman, Tordia grew jealous of Onyx's role as the natural leader of the group; he turned Darja against her, and the group fractured over some issues and drama. Ashmedai and Viper separated from them, avoiding the stress, and Darja and Tordia separated as well, leaving Onyx on her own.

Onyx got into several fights and honorable duels during her time at the healercraft hall, but never anything bad enough to get into trouble. Secret or mild, she never quite dealt with consequences, until she challenged Tordia to a duel at 21, less than a turn after his "betrayal." He fought dirty, and in the end, she ended up with a gash just missing her eye, an accident that even he hadn't intended, while brandishing a knife about. She recovered quickly, given her location, but was put on probation as an apprentice, as was he, for the dangerous fight. He left the hall with Darja, and Onyx recovered and kept out of trouble.

Hurt and betrayed, she threw herself into her studies, and became a journeyman in the surgical specialty by the age of 23. She was stationed at Western Weyr soon after, and to her surprise, was searched. At her first hatching, she Impressed, with a lovely blue making his way towards her. Life was never the same again. She tried to keep up with her craft, even during her weyrlinghood, but struggled to. She still spends much of her free time working on perfecting her craft, hoping to be a master, if not THE master, despite her dragonriding status. Stubborn, she won't accept anything less--though thankfully, she is patient about it.

When threadfall returned, her family's cothold was more or less wiped out. Onyx eventually returned, at some point after Impression, but she knew they were gone long before then. The cothold was absolutely destroyed, with nothing--and no one--left.

DRAGON
Name: Miehrath
Origin of Name: There are many names for this tea, but one translation may be "meramieh," from which Miehrath's name is taken.
Inspiration: Bedouin tea / Middle Eastern Sage tea

The Bedouin people are nomadic Arabs in the Middle Eastern area, well known for their values of hospitality. Their tea is generally made from the Marmaraya plant, a desert sage plant. Bedouin tea goes by many names. Names range from "Middle Eastern sage tea" to variations of the Marmaraya plant (meramieh, maramia).

In taste, the tea has a distinctive flavor--sweet, yet spicy. The fragrant aroma is both invigorating and relaxing. The Bedouin would invite people into their tents--large and cozy, with mats to sit on. The ceremony would not be too long for a weary traveler, with both coffee and Bedouin tea available during it. Over tea, the Bedouin may share their stories, as travelers of the desert.

The vibrant red of the tea matches the vibrant personality of the Bedouin; they are proud of their culture and express confidence in their livelihood. The Bedouin people enjoy music and poetry, with a strong oral tradition. Bedouin ethics include hospitality, courage/bravery, and their gender-specific honor codes, ird and sharaf.

Personality Miehrath's personality, in some ways, matches the flavor of his tea. His sweetness comes from his desire to be honorable, to protect the weak, to be kind to others. He cares deeply about others, and wants to be a white knight to everyone he meets. Fiercely optimistic, he believes in the good in everyone, until proven otherwise, and is an overall gentle and caring soul. That said, he certainly has a spice to him, as well. He doesn't take kindly to others mistreating him or his--or anyone, really. He stands up against injustice with an iron fist, refusing to budge on his ideals. Stubborn when it comes to his values, he doesn't let anyone push him or anyone else around. Fiery, in some ways, even, he is prone to sarcasm and sass, at the very least, but only if someone "deserves" it. With no tolerance for cruelty, Miehrath is more likely to say something than not. He's not outspoken against normal disagreements, but if something is unfair, unjust, or evil, in his mind, he will give his two cents. Maybe even some extra change, if you're unlucky enough to be on the receiving end.

Generally gentle, this dragon loves children and animals, and will gladly let youth climb on him to play. Mild in manners, when needed, he is more than happy to be a pleasant force of goodness. While he fights for what he believes to be right, and holds himself and his rider to high moral standards, in daily life he is relatively calm and willing to go with the flow. A flexible dragon, Miehrath enjoys granting others freedom, rather than trying to control them. That doesn't mean he'll tolerate poor behavior, just that he'll try to let people do what they will.

Honor is very important to this dragon. He doesn't believe in fighting dirty, in any meaning of the word, and will act in a way that preserves the honor and dignity of himself, Onyx, and anyone else around him. Even the most cruel of people do not deserve underhanded methods. Miehrath has a strong code of honor, and will not budge when it comes to this. Naturally, his honor includes protecting others and keeping them safe--as well as speaking up against injustice.

He is also a generous dragon. Willing to let others into his weyr at any time, he believes in being hospitable and kind to guests, and would give others the clothes off his back (if he, you know, wore clothing). A bit traditional in his regard for caring for others, and certainly chivalrous, he treats others with respect, especially if they identify as female. Additionally, Miehrath is brave, and believes strongly in courage as a value. He will protect others, and even lay his life on the line repeatedly to keep others safe. Fighting thread is the biological prerogative of dragons, but even if it wasn't, he'd yearn to take to the skies to protect Pern.

Regal and poised, Miehrath is a distinguished dragon, with proper manners and a strong belief in propriety. That said, he doesn't hold others to it, or think himself above others for his particular preferences. In fact, not even his rider is held to these ideals. Generally, this dragon has refined tastes, and enjoys art, music, and poetry above all else. Oral stories and songs are his favorite, and he enjoys being read to.

Size: 27.5 feet
Physical Attributes: Average in length, Miehrath is not the most impressive of blues. He is well-proportioned and sturdy in build, perhaps even a little ox-like, but not especially large or especially small. Despite his almost-bulky build, he carries himself with grace. Elegant and regal in his poise and gait, he seems the type to be distinguished and regal. His headknobs are surprisingly dainty, with a gentle curve to them, while his ridges are wide and relatively blunt. He has a few threadscores on his left foreleg, but they are healing well.
Additional Notes: N/A

Why Me: Onyx, while less disciplined and refined, possesses a strong moral code and wants to protect others. Miehrath respects that, and guides his rider to be a force of goodness in the world. Together, they will make Pern a better place. While Miehrath might have preferred his rider to be a harper, he supports her in her endeavors, and loves her dearly. Onyx, for her part, enjoys the balance that Miehrath gives to her more chaotic personality, and together they offer the right amount of contrast and similarity.

What were they like in weyrling training? Onyx tried very hard not to get into trouble, as did Miehrath, and they both tried to help their fellow weyrlings. However, friction likely occurred. While Onyx probably didn't get into any (or at least not many?) physical fights, she likely clashed with certain weyrlings. That said, she took her duty and classwork very seriously, and together, she and her dragon tried to excel in lessons.

How did they get along with their other weyrlings? Onyx and Miehrath likely tried to be sociable, and enjoyed most of their fellow weyrlings. Friendly and generally social, the pair likely made many friends, but few close ones. There would be, of course, some enemies as well--people with whom Onyx, or even Miehrath, just didn't get along with. Miehrath would try to take the moral high ground, preferring to speak out to injustices and trying not to hold grudges, but even he might fail against some of the more cruel or uncaring weyrlings. Onyx wouldn't even pretend to, and would likely clash directly with certain weyrlings over and over again.

How did they feel about weyrling training and Liat or V'mel's strict training? Strict training was not enjoyable, but Onyx tried to keep herself in line. Her desire to excel never quite won out over her rebellious attitude, but Miehrath likely helped keep her regulated. She would excel in the classwork, chores, and skills--but likely got in trouble with speaking out and arguing. Miehrath might even argue, if something didn't seem fair. (For example, if they end up at High Reaches, he might argue against the mistreatment of the lower colors.)

How did they do during Threadfall? Mostly lucky, Miehrath and Onyx have avoided injury in most of their threadfall adventures. In the most recent fall, however, in trying to protect a poorly positioned wingmate from a potential run in with thread, the pair edged out of formation to flame an errant cluster of thread. Miehrath was injured, taking a relatively mild score to his foreleg. It would heal, but it would scar. The pair tried to continue to fight thread after, until sent back or running out of endurance, likely worsening the injury, and by the time they were seen by healers, it was almost certainly going to leave a nasty, but not especially limiting, scar.

How do they feel about Threadfall's return? They hate threadfall. They live to protect Pern from it, but Onyx's past hurts regarding it and the pair's determination to protect mean that they'd be happier if thread never returned.

Anything else?

So you guys made me do a lot of reading.... And a lot of debating. I had to hem and haw and think about all sorts of things. I honestly would have just let all of you win, but I figure that would set a bad precedent. gaia_sakura

For those of you who don't win, please don't think it had anything personally. There was a lot to consider and couldn't allow for everyone to win. That said, we've got a raffle that we'll open up to give you guys opportunities--and you can always quest for the dragon/rider pair in our Quest Thread! They just can't have an official "theme" or be part of the Tea Clutch--but they could be part of an older NPC Clutch.

You can also keep the rider personalities and turn them into Candidates! Whatever you'd like to do.... The characters definitely don't have to be forgotten or "trashed".

For those who do win, please note that you still must post them in the Approval Thread! Fill out the form fully--don't just copy/paste this as I may have missed some information. I might have liked hte concept but there were some things I've read in entries that need fixing or aren't accurate or won't work out or need to be toned/removed.

Once approved, you can automatically start RPing! We'll get you the art when we can and I will assign colorists to create the new kiddos! We will drop them off in one batch, so it could take some time to complete.

That said... please congratulate our newest Tea Weyrlings!

Oh ho, what's this? Because I didn't want to take away from another's opportunity (especially as I am choosing a shop owner) I am allowing a few more NPCs to crop up!

It looks like someone miscounted during all the confusion, and/or the clutch records had some smudged ink!

This means that we'll be raffling off TWO (2) Western Weyr Tea Greens, and (1) High Reaches Blue! .... at minimum. << Maybe one or two more might sneak in, oh ho. But better hurry because this raffle is short!

EITHER WAY IF YOU WANT TO ENTER THE RAFFLE YOU CAN DO SO HERE!
