[DUEL] New Faces in Old Places [Ran & Faelyg]

Faelyg’s return home was odd. She felt all out of sorts being back home, but she was quite glad she was here. She felt different somehow, but that wasn’t really a bad thing, she thought. She had met a lot of interesting folks while she was out and new members had since joined.

The white lioness was no longer a Soldier as well. She was a Sentinel, part of a group that included her sister. Still, she wanted to fight, to spar. That wasn’t hard to come across in her home, but she specifically wanted to seek out a soldier. She wandered into her old stomping grounds, with the rest of the soldier. She saw some new faces here as well.

She was ready to see if her adventure had changed her, she was hoping it had made her stronger.

Ran was always ready to duel. At least since she got here. She won her duel into the pride with ease - on her first try, even. She was ready to face someone else, to prove herself. She wanted to do the best that she could, and she couldn’t protect herself and her new home without practice.

She hadn’t fought much before she entered the pride, and she felt like she had gotten in at sheer dumb luck and instinct. It was time to hone her skills and make herself stronger.

She was surprised to find a white lioness staring at her a bit, as if trying to place her face. She puffed up her chest and approached the other. “Would you like to duel?” she asked, hoping her nerves didn’t betray her in her words.

Faelyg was quite pleased that the other lioness took the initiative to approach her and ask for a duel. The newcomer was smaller than a normal firekin and she did not doubt that this girl would have a lot to prove.

“Of course,” she offered the words before she lunged for the other, slamming her claws into her side. She was sure that her blow would smart, and she could already see the shine of some blood oozing from the wound.

Perhaps the newcomer didn’t deserve to be in the pride after all. She wondered who was weak enough to lose to her.

The darker lioness was surprised by the blow. She hadn’t expected the duel to start so quickly. She scrambled to try to hit the other lioness back, but her attack missed. She scrambled backwards after her failed attempt and winced at the wound down her side. It was just past her shoulder, so it fortunately didn’t hinder her movements too much.

She hoped she would be able to get the next hit, because she already felt some embarrassment over the beginning of this duel.

Faelyg gave a bit of a snort, shaking her head at the sheer lack of skill the other had. This was a duel, though, not a real battle. She wouldn’t go easy on the other for being inexperienced, but she supposed she couldn’t be disdainful.

Faelyg grew up fighting after all. Perhaps she could take the lioness under her wing after this. That is, if she could prove herself.

“Fight back,” she commanded, lunging at the smaller lioness again. She felt her claws connect, drawing more blood. At this rate, she wasn’t sure the other even had a shadow of a chance.

Ran shook, the cuts hurt, but the adrenaline was finally kicking in. “I’m trying,” She huffed after trying to get out of range of the other lioness. She didn’t want to get hit again so soon after all, especially after two painful blows.

She could feel the blood dripping from the wounds and she ached to tend to them, but this was a fight and she was supposed to try to win. She lunged back at the lioness, though her aim was off, or the other had moved - she couldn’t tell - but her claws barely connected. She was sure only her paws did, though she was sure her blow at least might bruise.

It was perhaps luck that the dark lioness hit her, but it wasn’t enough to draw blood. Still, the hit stung for a bit before fading into the background hum of normal pain in her mind. This battle wasn’t enough to her her blood flowing, not yet at least.

She swiped her claws at the other lioness once more, trying to get a hit in as the other scrambled back out of her range.

Luck was not on her side this time, and she gave a grin towards the other lioness. “That's a bit better,” she complimented.

Ran breathed a sigh of relief that she actually got the hit in before, she wanted to puff up at the compliment but she didn’t want to lose focus.

She got a hit in this time, and perhaps… perhaps the same move would work once again. Its all she had, so she ran forward again to try to swipe at the white lioness. And Hit! A success! She wanted to give herself credit for doing so, and missed a crucial part of her plan.

The white lioness was counting on the other lioness trying the same trick twice - she was a newbie, and wouldn’t know how to modify her attacks now that it worked once. She watched as the other came closer, and only move a bit to make the blow not sting so much.

She could still feel the blood though, it would stain her white coat for a little while but she wasn’t bothered by it.

To teach the other a lesson, she flashed her teeth. She only expected it to graze - she didn’t expect to sink her teeth into the shoulder of the other lioness. The other had moved back before, but perhaps she had been shocked by her actual hit that she forgot to move away again. She pushed the other back by throwing her a bit, perhaps to shake her back to the present.

The smaller lioness did not expect the painful bite to her shoulder. It made her shake and she tried to swipe back, but she had already been pushed too far away by the other lioness to actually connect.

She stumbled and fell, but took a deep breath. The fight wasn’t over yet, even if she was losing spectacularly. She ran back at the other lioness to try to get an other hit in.

The other lioness had determination, Faelyg had to give her that. Perhaps she would take the other lioness under her wing. She had guts, even if she wasn’t quite skilled enough to have it make a difference.

She watched as the other lioness tried to get at her again, and simply pushed her down.

Ran’s last blow was on her way down. She struck Faelyg’s shoulder in her failing. It counted, even if it was mostly an accident. She tried to get back up but the exhaustion was pulling at her. She struggled to her feet anyway, just to say that she had ended the battle standing and not on the ground like some weakling.

Even if it hurt, she would end this spar standing on her own four paws.

“Enough, don’t push yourself,” Faelyg sighed. She rolled her shoulders, taking stock of her own wounds. There was only a scratch and a few bruises - nothing she hadn’t dealt with hundreds of times before.

“You should rest, I will come back for you tomorrow and I can teach you a thing or two about fighting.” She gave a small nod to the lioness and took her leave. Tomorrow would be interesting, to say the least. She did not watch as the other lioness limped away to lick her wounds.
