Name: Majka
Age: 35
Nameday: YYYY.07.14
Sexual Orientation: Hetrosexual
Craft: Vinter (expelled)
Rank: Apprentice
Location: Nabol
Physical Description: Majka has very broad features, with a slightly upturned nose and plump kissable lips. She has two moles, one under her eye and one under the left corner of her lip. Her face is well weathered and tan from the sun and starting to form early wrinkles as a consequence of many years lived on the road. Her figure is naturally rather stout but an extra layer of insulating fat makes her look quite square at a distance. Her hair is semi curly mess of shiny bronze and a privet point of vanity. Her eyes a kind set to them and a muddy green/hazel. Though she is by no means a beauty queen she has an over all warm and welcoming look.

Personality: Majka is rather world weary having experienced a lot in her short but colourful life. Which has lead to a level of cynicism and general mistrust. Unless she can see it, touch it and taste it she isn't likely to believe. She also has a hard time putting her faith in other people. She is quick to see the failings in people and the world at large and judge them for it. It's nothing personal you understand she just rather count on her own hands and mind to get a job done.
Saying that she still rather likes people as a whole despite their flaws and short comings and she will help them when she can. She is very generous with her time, resources and space.

She has been known to open her home and bar for free to people going through particularly hard times which is a welcome trait in a poor community.
Just don't test her or think her compassion means she is someone to take advantage of because she will be quick to correct that false assumption with violence if necessary.

Majka is a hard worker, throwing everything at a chosen task with shrew intelligence and out the box thinking that often gets her ahead in merchant talks or arguments.
Because of the world she lives in she is not afraid to use physical force to get her point across, especially if it is to protect the people at her inn. This is not done because of a quick temper or anger. It is a cold and often more frighten violence that is carried out because she sees it as the quickest way to solve a problem. Which has lead to rumors that she has killed a man. Though with no real backing.

Majka is also furnished with all the wisdom that can be expected or your local bar keep and has a knack for helping people with their problems with insightful advice. When it comes to her own problems, she likes to keep her own council. She has been hurt to many times now to let anyone see behind her thick emotional walls. She is to busy running her bar and being a mother to a teenager to let her own feelings take hold.
Positive Trait List Generous , wise. compassionate.
Negative Trait List Cynical, quick to violence, closed off
History: Majka was born in Brendan to a family that would be counted as middle class. Her parents were both skilled and respected crafter's though rather strict with their children they were also loving.
Because her parents were skilled crafters the children were expected to follow in their foot steps and they were all apprenticed out at rather young ages. Majka and one of her brothers both went to the local vinters hall. It was a good respectable craft that had the promise of putting them in contact with weyr leaders and lord holders if their vintages were good enough. Majka was a bright precocious child and she did well at her studies but she was also a teenager coming into her own and rebelling against the strict upbringing.

So when she met a group of young trader apprentices one day willing to flirt with her and show her attention that made her feel warm and tingly in side things quickly got out of hand. First one of the boys produced a bottle of wine that he had secretly traded some of his stock for. After that was gone, Majka was drunk enough to be persuaded to let her new friends into one of the hall store houses. Giggling the entire time and thinking it would never be missed they rolled out a large barrel of fine Brendan wine and shared it amongst themselves.

By the time the morning rolled around the boys had all vanished and Majka was found drunk, passed out with the evidence of her theft. She was dragged before the master crafters and scolded and questioned. However she refused to give up her fellow thieves. Holding onto a scewed sense of childish loyalty. You don't snitch to the grown ups. For her theft of one of the finest batches of wine reserved for the lord holders table, and for not giving up her fellows she was banished. Expelled from the hall in disgrace Majka was devastated. She didn't dare go home but she had no where else to go.

Luckily she was approached again by the young merchants. She promptly punched one of them for abandoning her but when they learnt that she had not turned them in they were suitably impressed. One of the older boys even invited her to join their caravan once she explained what had happened. They felt bad and the boys father was one of the groups leaders so he had some sway. But that wasn't enough. The boy told her that if she wanted to join it would have to be as family. So she was introduced as the older boys future bride. Obviously the rest of the merchants were shocked and sceptical whens Majka was introduced but they could not argue with their own laws and customs.

The boy, who's name was Lumenti somehow managed to convince his father and since they were both 16 there was nothing they could really be done to stop them. Rather than set his own son against him Lumenti's father rather reluctantly agreed to bless the union. If Majka could prove herself a fitting wife of a merchant.

That was no problem. Majka was smart, a hard worker and most of all determined to make it work to avoid going back to her parents in disgrace. A few months later. She did indeed Marry Lumenti and they were, if not happy. at least content for a while. Majka even got pregnant shortly after and gave birth to a beautiful bouncing baby . Majenti. The apple of her mothers eye.

But there was a problem that became more and more apparent as time went on. Lumenti was a handsome man, charming, witty and he had an eye for the ladies. Especially the slim young pretty ones that the stout broad featured Majka felt she could never measure up to. She knew that Lumenti was away in another's bed every time they stopped at a new hold. She had grown to love her husband and the longer it went on the more the betrayals hurt. At last things exploded into massive fight. Luemti told Majka she was never the one he had really wanted, he had just felt sorry for her. And she was ugly. Majka told him he was a sleeze, a liar and a horrible father .

After that, the marriage completely fell apart. Majka was ready to walk away with Majenti and nothing else but her kindly father in law had other ideas. He would not see her grandchild out on the street. He set them up in Nabol working at his friends inn. The inn and bar was a warm and welcoming place. Despite working as a part time brothel (as most of the bars in nabol did) Majka was only ever expected to work as bar maid and accountant. She also employed the knowledge she had learned as a vinter and a merchant to bring in some of the best wines at the lowest prices which also earned the bar itself a glowing reputation in the poor community .

The bar life suited Majka nicely and the old bar owner Todias was always kind to her. All the workers were also taken by the charms of young Majenti and she always had plenty of baby sitters ready to coddle and spoil her.. Todias was also quite taken with Majka and as they grew closer and their business partnership bloomed so did their personal one. Though Todias was twenty years Majka's senior a few years in, he asked her to marry him. Thinking she was unlikely to do better than the gruff but gentle Todias Majka agreed.

Again married life brought a contentment and level of domestic bliss to Majka but this was not to last either. A few years after the marriage a brawl broke out at the bar between a drunk pair over a courtesan. Todias got in the middle of things trying to break it up and was struck over the head. He fell to the floor dead.

Majka was distraught and beat both men back to hold the body of Todias in her arms until the hold guard arrived. Both men involved in the fight were arrested but strangely the one that struck Todias hanged himself before he could go to trial. Rumours circled that Majka had some how arranged it, but on one could prove anything. After that Majka took over running the bar. Where she remains, queen of her own small kingdom.

Okay, so there is a lot of ground to cover here. Her personality is fine, but her history needs adjustment.

1. Every mention of "merchant" needs to be changed to "trader."

2. It is completely unbelievable that Majka would have access to the storerooms as a very junior apprentice, let alone would assume she would have no consequences. Drunk or not, there's no doubt that that would be a huge offense and transgression against her craft. Why did she have a key? Who would have been foolish enough to give it to her? How did they steal an entire barrel of prized Benden wine at the Hall where she would have been by no means unobserved. You're telling me that that important of a commission would not have been under some sort of security? I could see her stealing a wineskin or two, but an entire barrel? How did they even drink all of it in one night? She'd have had to roll it out of the Hall to even be able to drink any of it.

3. If she did it and was punished, she'd have been sent home in disgrace. At minimum her parents would have been informed, since they were the ones who sent her there in the first place. Also, she has a brother with whom she shares a craft, and I have no doubt that that would get out.

4. It would have to be that specific caravan's rules as it is by no means a common practice among trader caravans. It's oddly regressive for a group of traders on Pern, but I could imagine one family feeling that way. Things have come very far since the Lilincamps.

5. Anyone who "owns" a bar, tavern, inn, or brothel (or for that matter any other business) within a hold does not own it outright. It would properly belong to Lord Gansley, who would allow her to run it. There are no freeholds on Pern, period, no matter what Zanoma camp would wish.

6. Please fill in the Turn for her nameday.
