Name: G'rus (formerly Geraeus)
Age: 16
Nameday: 3560.07.01
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Girls! Of course girls.
Craft: Fishercraft Apprentice
Rank: Weyrling
Location: Western Weyr
Physical Description: G'rus is far from finished growing, but he's not going to be a mountain of a man, even when he has. He's just a little under six foot now, 5'11" or so, so he'll probably top six feet, but there's no knowing for sure. He's built like he runs and knows a hard days' work already. There are definitely deep set calluses on his hands. He's olive-skinned, hazel-eyed and sports a dark head of hair that has enough wave to grow out of control when he lets it get long enough. That doesn't happen often. His clothes are practical, not pretty, and they fit him well.

Personality: G'rus is not great with rapid change. That's not to say he won't try new things. It isn't even meant to say that he can't adapt: he can. Given his druthers though, he'd much prefer that change followed a schedule posted well in advance.

He was -- is -- a hard-working young man with a deep-seated sense of honor and justice. He's never been a bully, and is uncomfortable to his core when he sees someone being picked on or pushed around. He's just never intervened. Never wanted to get involved with trouble that doesn't come straight at him. He's given other boys a hand up after a scuffle and if he needed to run for a healer, he'd do that, sure, but he's not the one to look to if you need protecting.

He's a big fan of order and rules and predictability, none of which he's sure of now, so he'll cling to what he's told and taught with all his might. The more uncomfortable he is, the less he jokes and laughs, though he has a sense of humor, he swears he does. He likes to keep his belongings tidy and to know where everything is, especially in a new situation. At home, in Tillek, he didn't mind having to go looking for his boots or a tool or his cousins, but in a world out of his control, not knowing something causes him no end of stress.

When all else fails him, though, he finds comfort in his imagination. He is a pretty decent storyteller, and was known, in his family, as someone who liked to embellish when a simple story would do. In many of those stories, G'rus was captain of a ship and would go on grand adventures to places that probably don't exist on Pern, but you'd never know, he said, unless you went out and looked. Well. This is the biggest adventure he never imagined and he's not sure, quite yet, how it will all end.

Positive Trait List: Organized, disciplined, imaginative, helpful, creative
Negative Trait List: obsessive, easily overwhelmed by change, calculating

History: Geraeus was born at Tillek Hold to a family deeply rooted in the Fishercraft. His father was a fisherman, both his grandparents were as well, and so on for as many generations back as anyone could remember. Growing up, it was all that Geraeus had ever known. He had big dreams of captaining his own ship one day, though the stories he told his friends and family were so filled with adventure and daring feats that he could easily write them off as "just" stories.

As soon as he was permitted, he asked to apprentice at the Hall and he threw himself into learning knots and coiling rope and holding tools at the ready so that one day he could walk the tables and call the shots.

Then Thread fell and all the sure things of his life disappeared. His father, who was at sea at during First Fall, survived, but with only a handful of the crew he left with, and returned with a nightmare retelling of the ship that came apart under his feet. Though his family survived, many of their friends did not, so they clung to each other for safety in a world that no longer made sense.

In the Turns since First Fall, Tillek Hold (and many other places, no doubt) became more dependent on High Reaches Weyr for security and protection. As a result, Geraeus' father asked to be allowed to be involved in organizing supplies and services that were sent to the Weyr to pay them back. When a shipment was being prepared, he would pull Geraeus away from his studies to help and make sure the boy was known and recognized.

So he couldn't escape the Searchrider when she came looking for Candidates to Stand at High Reaches. As a matter of fact, his mother made a great point of introducing him. She had lost interest in sending her son out to sea when unlucky timing might mean he never came back. The Weyr, she told him often, was the safer place to be.

So he went and he did his best to be prepared for the Hatching to come at High Reaches Weyr. And then word came through about a Hatching on the western continent, at another Weyr, much farther away and before he could voice an objection, he was on a dragon's back and headed halfway across Pern.

Some of the faces surrounding him were familiar, but many more were not and there were unfamiliar riders and dragons over head and --

And none of that matters now. I will watch you and you will watch me. Now come, Geraeusmine, there are too many things to do to stand in one place any longer. Come with your Ardupath!

He went.

Other: When they're loud, they're loud.

DRAGON - - - -
Name: Ardupath
Personality: Ardupath is very eager to get things done and just as determined not to let G'rus trail behind him, or be behind anything at all, really. Front and center, up and at 'em, the dragon wants to be the first into any situation and G'rus is expected to be right there by his side.

He is tireless and determined that other dragons should do as he does and follow his lead, even if he's only had one lesson or seen a maneuver performed once. He understands that not all dragons are meant to be leaders, but he certainly is and he does not want to miss out on any opportunity to prove it.

But for all that he is a taskmaster and impatient to be Doing Something rather than just standing by, he is exceptionally patient and understanding of his clutchmates in particular. It's not their faults if they weren't made to be up front. He's got this, and he will defend them against anyone or any dragon who has a negative thing to say about them. Even themselves.

He is easily frustrated by being held back and somewhat prone to anger if he feels he's been unfairly restrained. Once through the struggle, owever, he will be solid as a rock. This is not a dragon easily distracted by anything.

Egg Size: Medium
Adult Size: 43'
Physical Attributes: Ardupath is pretty average for overall size, but he will be in tip-top shape once he's finished growing. Muscle definition will be very noticeable beneath his hide. He will be powerful, but not particularly quick.

Additional Notes: As he gets older, that urge to be first may be tempered, but it won't disappear. Thread? Let him at it. Flight? Dragons who wait don't catch! He is very proud of the fact that he can produce a longer than average gout of flame.

Why Me: Gaerus has potential. He just needs someone to pull it out of him. Who better than Ardupath who needs a partner who can live up to his expectations and exceed them? In his youth, Ardupath will rely on G'rus to keep him out of danger and from over extending himself. In exchange, G'rus will learn the value of speaking up and stepping forward, rather than letting someone else take the lead. They will temper one another's uncontrolled obsessions and Ardupath will guarantee that wherever G'rus ends up, it will always feel like home.

Oh, but that boast about being un-distractable? If either rider or dragon find something more permanent than a Flight-induced fantasy? Watch out. They share the same devotion and dedication for the softer side of life as they do the challenges. They may be awkward and inexperienced, but they will be all in.
