- ■ Honestly, Roland kind of hated this class. It was boring, it was late at night when he wanted to be sleeping, and all he could think about was how if he was going to be that high up, he wanted to be on his broom. He passed, sure, but it was more because he was afraid his sister would kill him for failing than anything else.
xxxCHARMS ~ Axxx
- ■ Roland's not terrible at charmwork, but he's not exactly the best at it, either. The sheer volume of things he's expected to be able to do is a little overwhelming at times. Plus, he sort of viewed charmwork as a representative of magic itself, which he was struggling with when he was younger due to his relationship with his parents deteriorating as a result of being magical. He also thinks there are a lot of fairly pointless charms, not seeing why it's necessary to do some things with magic when he could just as easily do them without. Still, this course is important for most career paths, so he applied himself well enough to pass.
xxxDEFENSE AGAINST THE DARK ARTS ~ EExxx
- ■ Roland's trepidation towards magic was all but ignored in this class, where the promise of learning cool fighting magic managed to appeal more to his adolescent brain than dwelling on feeling like a freak. He was a little sloppy at times, and lost points for carelessness, but he had an enthusiasm that almost managed to disguise itself as a natural affinity for the magic.
xxxHERBOLOGY ~ Axxx
- ■ It's not that Roland dislikes this class, or plants in general, he's just got other, more interesting things to do. Also, he refuses to die because some stupid plant killed him. This both helped and hindered him, since it made him cautious enough to not sustain any injuries in class and thus required him to take proper care of the plants, but also meant he didn't apply himself much when he could avoid it.
xxxHISTORY OF MAGIC ~ Axxx
- ■ History was a bit of a sore spot with Roland, because he sort of expected to do well just because of who his sister is. He didn't take into account that listening to her drone on and on for hours at a time, and actually absorbing the information she was droning about, were two different things. He didn't really discover this until time for the actual exam, resulting in a less-than-stellar score, but on the plus side, he didn't fail. He's still pretty sure he's getting disowned, though.
xxxPOTIONS ~ EExxx
- ■ Roland was neither good nor bad at potions, but he tried harder to be good at it than his other middling courses, mostly because he was terrified of blowing the classroom up if he did something wrong. No amount of reassurances would convince him this wasn't going to happen. Which wasn't great for his nerves, but was for his score.
xxxTRANSFIGURATION ~ Oxxx
- ■ Roland is weirdly good at Transfiguration. Mostly because the first time he pulled it off, he was so damn excited, he poured an insane amount of time into getting good at it. Passing this exam was probably easier than every other exam he had, much to his joy and confusion.

xxxALCHEMY ~ EExxx
- ■ Roland took this out of curiosity, mostly, and found he had something of a knack for it. He's not a prodigy by any means, but it came easier to him that most other forms of magic. He was pretty pleased with his exam result.
xxxCURSEBREAKING ~ Axxx
- ■ This course was only on his list because of his sister, and he was more than a little disappointed that he wasn't better at it. His disappointment, in fact, resulted in continued failure, since he lost confidence and steam pretty quickly. Still, he's not one to back down from a challenge, at least not against himself, so he strove to do well and ended up just shy of the EE mark.
xxxHEALING CLASS ~ EExxx
- ■ Roland took this course both out of a sense of practicality, and because he thinks that being able to help people is one of the most important skills to have. He wasn't sure if he wanted to pursue any sort of career where it was important, but his sister definitely supported him keeping it as an option, knowing him as well as she did. He did remarkably well, though not quite well enough for an O.
xxxMUGGLE STUDIES ~ Oxxx
- ■ Roland didn't take this course, but he did take the exam, just in case it proved useful to have the score. Being a muggleborn, it was a breeze. He did have to shake his head at some of the outdated questions, though.
xxxSTUDY OF ANCIENT RUNES ~ EExxx
- ■ Roland took this, again, because of his sister, and found it easier than history and cursebreaking, though not by much. Still, it was a puzzle to solve, and he enjoys those, so his exam score ended up being a middling EE, which by his standards was an excellent score.
xxxWIZARD LAW ~ Axxx
- ■ Again, Roland wasn't sure if he needed this course for anything, but it seemed like a good idea to take it, just in case. He found it somewhat fascinating, but at the end of the day it felt a lot like history, which he's not great with. He struggled to keep things straight at times, especially with regards to outdated laws that made no sense. Still, he did fairly well on the exam, and was pleased with himself.
