Welcome to the N'ezi-Ozu's first concept contest!
This is a particularly special one because it is one of the first that we've ever had, but more importantly, it's also an opportunity for us to give someone a chance to pick up one of our more exclusive ranks.

In this concept contest we'll be giving you a chance to ascend this cub to the rank of Amoosu (Death Priest). As there is only one of these ranks per family this is a very special rank indeed!

Before entering we would ask that you make sure that you are comfortable with the following rules:
  • Nche remains the lead Death Priest and at this time, we have no intention of replacing him. He holds the authority.
  • Your new Death Priest (Amoosu) will be an apprentice under Nche.
  • Nche will determine when your Death Priest is ready to become 'official'.
  • Your character will have the Amoosu rank on their cert, but from an IC POV, their authority will be limited until Nche is confident he's ready!
  • A Death Priest cannot become full fledged until they are an adult, so no cubs or teenagers will 'graduate' before that. n_n
  • The process of becoming a Death Priest is still very new and remains under discussion, this is a rare opportunity to skip the process we'll implement.
  • If you do not want to be a Death Priest (you change your mind), this is definitely ok. Just let us know and we will re-open the Agha role at a later date!

We do have some brief FAQs:
  • No, there is no activity requirement for this role at this time.
  • No, there is no minimum word count for entry!
  • Yes, you can have a change of heart and have him pursue another career if you would like. Just tell us!
  • Eventually, we will provide more responsibilities and duties for the Amoosu but their basic duties are outlined in the relevant threads.
  • You can edit as many times as you would like until the closing date.

A reminder of who you're entering for...

He's going to be the next Agha Amoosu, for some, this particular family's Death Priest was controversial due to his policies before he mysteriously passed away. It was this Death Priest that nearly wiped them out due to how little of their bloodlines were left. Will he feel particularly strongly amount this, or will he be more neutral? Does he feel like he owes anyone anything, or should he be allowed to cut his own path?
He hopes that the weight of the past isn't pressed upon his own shoulders. There is some concern in the cubs mind that he will be judged on his predecessors actions and that gives him a little anxiety. What if they expect him to be the same way? To have similar views? While he wants to know all he can about what his predecessor did and how he viewed things, he would like the opportunity to take things into his own paws and show his own views.

How does he feel about being identified as 'suitable' for the role of Amoosu. This is a fairly exclusive and important role, is he pompous, does he think it's neat, or does he just not care - heck, would he prefer to be doing something else?
So he was 'suitable' to be the Agha Amoosu, what did being suitable even mean? He was likely suitable for many things, didn't mean he was right for the rank. What made him right to be suitable? He was still only a cub! He hadn't even really lived and experienced life yet, he could change between now and adulthood!

Any plans for the future? Near/Far/Big/Small - doesn't matter, we're just curious!

Your Name: Sareibear
Cub's Name: Wanquma ('decided' in Zulu)

******

One Line Personality Blurb: a studious and rather particular lion who is very devoted to his future duties and learnings.

He's going to be the next Agha Amoosu, for some, this particular family's Death Priest was controversial due to his policies before he mysteriously passed away. It was this Death Priest that nearly wiped them out due to how little of their bloodlines were left. Will he feel particularly strongly about this, or will he be more neutral? Does he feel like he owes anyone anything, or should he be allowed to cut his own path?

Due to his studious nature, Wanquma had found some threads of stories of how the pride used to perform his duties-to-be. He felt as though there was no need to focus on the past, as their foremost concern now was to preserve and (hopefully) help the current population thrive. There was a delicate balance between his work and the work of the Enyi, and he looked forward to working with the cherished remains of passed pride members. To him it was a prideful position, where you were honoured with the opportunity to pay the ultimate respects to those who became ancestors or relics. There was a chance to find a new and better way that the Amoosu could assist the pride as a whole- and he could be the one to discover it!

How does he feel about being identified as 'suitable' for the role of Amoosu. This is a fairly exclusive and important role, is he pompous, does he think it's neat, or does he just not care - heck, would he prefer to be doing something else?

This cub has been inquisitive and relentlessly full of curiosity since day one, and the role that he has been identified as suitable for offers him a massive and varying bank of knowledge to be acquired. To Wanquma, there would be no better role! He would love the chance to learn all the pride history and have the opportunity to respect all in death. He would cherish the position, though he would not abuse it's potential power in any way. Though he might appear a little stuck-up, it's mostly just social awkwardness and lack of conversational skills, as he much prefers to be learning or working. He is kind, besides his awkwardness.

Any plans for the future? Near/Far/Big/Small - doesn't matter, we're just curious!

Wanquma is very attached to his role and his work, as well as his family (despite the scars on their record), and is determined to give them a better image in the eyes of the pride, as well as their deity. He wants to be forward thinking and help to improve the quality of life within the pride, not only his family, but all the families- and also to improve the quality of their practices, rituals, and record-keeping.

Your Name: Straye
Cub's Name: Idir
Meaning: Alive

******

One Line Personality Blurb:
Idir is an old soul - he takes responsibility for himself and is deeply invested in the role he is expected to play for his Pride; despite this, he has trouble trusting himself because he fears he may fail to meet the expectations of those who knew the Lion who came before him.

He's going to be the next Agha Amoosu, for some, this particular family's Death Priest was controversial due to his policies before he mysteriously passed away. It was this Death Priest that nearly wiped them out due to how little of their bloodlines were left. Will he feel particularly strongly about this, or will he be more neutral?:

The story of the Death Priest who came before him will Haunt him - to know or at least to think that the potential result of failure to do his job properly could lead to something so devastating as the mass loss of life will terrify him.

That it could lead to mass suffering, even more so.

Despite his fear, however - it will also motivate him and light a fire in his heart. Determination to learn to work with surgical accuracy, to be so skilled at his job he could do it blind, or in his sleep.

He will be diligent, intensive, methodical, and he will work tirelessly until he has graduated and will step into his place as Amoosu with confidence.

Does he feel like he owes anyone anything, or should he be allowed to cut his own path?:

He feels like his Family deserves better than the Legacy they carry because of the last Amoosu - he wants to carve a new path, be a guide for the Amoosus that follow him, change what his family is best known for.

He knows that he is not at fault for the actions of his Predecessor, but he also knows that he cannot expect the pride to trust in him until he had proven to them that he will be the change they deserve.

How does he feel about being identified as 'suitable' for the role of Amoosu? This is a fairly exclusive and important role, is he pompous, does he think it's neat, or does he just not care - heck, would he prefer to be doing something else?

As a cub, he might wonder what set him apart as 'suitable' but he'll understand his Family needs an Amoosu, and only boys can be chosen - he'll more than likely assume that his gender and the fact that there were few cubs were what made him stand out.

He is honored to be chosen, and he is pretty confident in his support structure, coming from a loving family. He knows that he has the option not to become Amoosu, but he also recognizes that his family, who loves him so much, needs an amoosu to complete their circle of life.

There is no pomp, no fanfare, he's down to earth and he's calm and he's ready for the path ahead of him. He is humble and he fears the consequence of not being good enough. He acknowledges what is expected of him, and he approaches this with an open heart and a mind thirsting for knowledge.

Any plans for the future? Near/Far/Big/Small - doesn't matter, we're just curious!

Near:
Confidant:
Meeting a cub who becomes a childhood friend he's close to; one whom he confides in about the weight he carries on his shoulders and his hopes and fears for the future.

Losing a Loved One:
Learning the true purpose of Amoosu first hand as a loved one that the cub has a bond with is laid to Rest gives him a deeper understanding of the importance of his place in the Pride and the part he plays for his Family.

Far:
Growing Up:
He'll lose contact with his best friend as he becomes more encompassed in his studies, learning his responsibilities, and getting closer to completing his apprenticeship.

The Student Becomes the Teacher:
Someday, a litter will be born, and it will be his turn to teach. He will feel that the story of their Ancestor and the Amoosu that came before him must be taught even to the generations that follow so it may never come to pass again.

Big:
Under the Weather:
He'll catch an illness from one of the bodies he's preparing and in terror that a new plague will be released upon his Pride, he'll flee, sick and hallucinating and it will almost be the end of him.

Fatherhood:
After finding love unexpectedly, next comes Fatherhood - the blessing of a litter of cubs will bring with it a celebration of life and a reminder that Death is not all there is to his existence.

Small:
Reunited:
He'll reconnect with his childhood friend, maybe as he's recovering, and he'll admit that his life has been lacking in their absence.

Mending the Past:
When he completes his apprenticeship and he's Graduated by Nche, he will approach his family, and tell them that He will be different than those that came before him, that their Legacy and their Origins will be safe in his paws, he will ask for their stories, their memories, and he will commit them to his own so that while he works, those memories will be honoured.
